    Hahaha you're way too optimistic Grace. There's no excuse for DC's Avengers flick to underperform this bad. There's definitely a problem when a group of unknowns called the Suicide Squad beats your ultimate superhero team flick.

    Even if it beats Man of Steel, we're talking about The Justice League movie not beating the likes of Suicide Squad, or even BvS. This was supposed to be the ticket into the billion dollar club, and it looks like they're fighting not to be dead last in their own franchise. That is the definition of a flop.

    Man, I've never seen a more textbook example than grasping at straws.
    It's a box office disaster, plain and simple. And if you think it's going to have a Fantastic Beasts run while Thor is still going strong, Coco is about to come out, and with The Last Jedi less than a month away, you're deluding no one but yourself.

    Thor: No. I won... easily.
    Batman: That doesn't sound right.
    Thor: Well, it's true

    This is what's wrong with the DC fans, they will instantaneously call homecoming a flop at 800 million $ collection but when it comes to DC they became so fucking protective, starts saying that they can recover and hold blah blah........
    If this ain't a flop when do you call it a flop?

  • @prodigy616
    @prodigy616 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    There’s no real way to turn this to a positive. $96 million opening weekend for JUSTICE LEAGUE of all movies is bad. There might be a chance to recover, but this is bad. Suicide Squad (a property no one outside comics knew about) earned more. Smh

    I don't care what the excuses are, this is an unmitigated disaster and we don't know where Warner Bros. will go from here!!! This is the JUSTICE LEAGUE we're talking about! You should be comparing it to the Avengers, not a spinoff movie like fantastic beasts!

    Hi Grace. Remember when you considered spiderman homecoming as a FAILURE? I appreciate you being positive but cmon. A film like JL is not supposed to struggle to reach 100 mil and miss opening weekend, not supposed to struggle to 700 mil ww, not supposed to be the loser out of FIVE cbm this year. I didn't hate the movie. I enjoyed bits and pieces. This had to do better. Iron man 1 opened more and released in 2008. I love DC. But this DCEU movie needs to FAIL for WB to wake the hell up

  • @kyleocallaghan1283
    @kyleocallaghan1283 7 ปีที่แล้ว +94

    I don’t understand how you can make this positive....this movie should have been opening at 120 million. It’s the lowest dceu opening...it’s a little bad, especially when you take into consideration that there were more sold out Paddington 2 showings in the major cinema near me than there was for JL...which had no sellouts....

    • @alexh4319
      @alexh4319 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jay Starr it’s not doing 120. These projections are very close. It’s over. Even if it did 100 it’s still too low for a film that reportedly costs a whopping 300 million(and that’s even accounting for marketing).
      All the movie has to rely on at this point is strong repeat viewings which it probably won’t given the competition in its next few weeks-Coco is coming very soon and The Last Jedi is right around the corner.

    I agree that the DCEU needs a Kevin Feige type figure, who not only has great business and creative nouse, but they must also have the passion AND knowledge of a DC Comics and DC Cartoons fan.
    There is scope for cheaper AND better DC films. We need more alter ego time; Clark Kent being a great reporter, Bruce Wayne being the world's greatest detective etc.

      +Blue Werewolf At least with Bruce, a Batman film focusing more on the detective stuff can work. But a Superman film focusing more on Clark Kent, would be boring. And it doesn't help that Superman doesn't have a modern film that's the equivalent of the Nolan Batman films, a film that, overall, understands the character perfectly in this day & age.

    A movie starring Harley Quinn opened 40 million bigger than one with BATMAN, SUPERMAN, WONDER WOMAN, FLASH and CYBORG, Fantastic Beasts was a SPIN OFF with characters with no brand recognition. GRACE, you're in denial, 96 million for the fricking JUSTICE LEAGUE is a disaster. Period. This film will drop the usually 65-70% on it's second weekend, at 40% on Rotten Tomatoes this film will have no legs and JUSTICE LEAGUE opened in all the major markets so it won't get a boost or save from overseas countries, there also a STAR WARS movie this December.

    They can try to spin it as much as they want, but keep 2 things in mind:
    1-They spent $300M on this film not including ads spent. They didn't even touch $100M yet smh
    2-WB continues to trim, meddle and mess up its films so this will continue to happen in ALL of their movies.
    DC/WB is a failure, and i would like to say i am officially paying for marvel flicks only. I think ill stream DC films from now on.

    Love Grace, love DC but hate hypocrisy. She insisted Homecoming was a flop and a “loser” because of its slow start but will defend a SUPERMAN, BATMAN and WONDER-WOMAN team up that was predicted to open somewhere around $130mil opening at $96mil (when b-list Thor opened at $109mil two weeks before) and her reasoning is that America is busy travelling and shopping? Star Wars is opening a week and a half before Christmas so shall we expect a slow start to that because America will be too busy shopping and traveling?

    So is Grace's pie in the sky "it'll perform like Fantastic Beats" fantasy obviously delusional yet? I hope so. Watching everybody go through the seven stages of grief on this one has been rich. People at different stages of denial and excuse making, blaming various people, etc instead of just accepting that the DCEU has sucked and DC isn't as important overall as they thought it was.

    The fact that it might be bailed out by releasing adjacent to Thanksgiving Weekend, doesn't really change the fact that it was an embarrassing opening weekend result. That fact should have helped it blow away projections - not maybe save face.
    Rebooting the entire DCEU is not practical at this point, but I really think they need to take it back to basics.

    just getting to the 700s on a 300 mil budget would really only be breaking even or a small profit. and a film like this i'm sure wb was hoping for better return then simply not losing money.

    Grace doesn’t matter how you try to spin it. The fact that Thor, only Thor, made more money than arguably the most famous superheroes of all time in their first movie together, is embarrassing. The first avengers made 207 million in their opening weekend. And if you compare it to Fantastic Beast it’s still doesn’t look good, cause FB didn’t cost 300 million to make, and the Harry Potter movies always make their bigger chunk of money overseas. It’s a flop, and I hope Warner Brothers sees this and make the changes they need to make. Fricking IT made more money than all of this heroes. Is an embarrassment all way around it.

    Why is it making under $100 on a movie with iconic characters that have been around for many decades not a disappointment? Is just making 100-200$ million profit the best that DCEU can hope for instead of the bofo money that Marvel Studio makes? Maybe DCEU should simply stop being compared to Marvel Studios and simply stay with comparisons to Sony and Fox as clearly Marvel is simply on a league of its own as far as Box Office.

  • @praxisvoiceworks
    @praxisvoiceworks 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Since estimates are about all we got right now...here goes:
    Justice League
    Budget - $300 mil.
    Ad Budget - $200-300 mil.
    Maximum total - $600 mil.
    US weekend - $96 mil.
    World - $186
    Total box office - $281 mil.
    Not dire by any measure but if it's "legs fall off" and people don't do as Grace predicts and continue to see this film well into December in larger numbers then WB and the DCEU are in serious trouble.
    I predict a similar trajectory to Batman v. Superman compared to Civil War. I see Thor continuing to bring money in with JL having a steeper fall off and a much lower total box office gross comparatively. In truth I was really hoping it would do better but WB have yet to completely pull their heads out of their asses and I am uncertain even if they were to reboot completely if that would solve their problems. I actually think it would hurt them more then it would help at this point.
    I would refocus efforts to bring more DCU characters to their television series and build that up to a Justice League show with their existing and excellent CW talent!

    I'll I can think to say to this viewpoint on JL Box Office is "Come on Son" This is an unmitigated disaster. The word of mouth is going to kill this for the 2nd weekend. Because It's a DCEU movie there will be TONS of negative stories to deal with. This is the JUSTICE LEAGUE. It should be able to do 100 million in it's sleep. I want competition. I want the DCEU to do well. Competition is good for the us the consumers and the genre as well. These kind of numbers won't lead to more competition but less.

The Dark Knight is the most critical acclaim comicbook movie of all time. DC still beats Marvel in comics, tv shows, animation, and video games. They are still staying.

    It is really a surprise? They boxed themselves into marketing plan that couldn't reveal the return of Superman. They setup Wonder Woman to be the leader of the team, then the early impressions from the feminists didn't like the way Diana was shot. The marketing plan had to rely on the action of Aquaman, Cyborg and Flash. They wasted the return of Superman from death. The review embargo and rottentomato delay was a serious red flag.
