Hello! I have 2 questions:
*1st* I learned that "日"s readings are "hi, bi, ka, nichi, jitsu" but in "日本, 日本語, 日本人, ect..." it's read "ni". Why?
*2nd* Japanese write from top to bottom and sometimes from left to right like us. I thought when the write from top to bottom, it starts from the left row and starts going to right. But in a comic it started from the right row and went to the left! Do I know wrong?

why 約束 since 予約 means appointment?

予約 is mainly used for "appointment with organization" and it also means "reservation". 約束 is used for "promise" or "appointment with an individual".
