Chrissy Amphlett developed MS and then Breast cancer. Because of the MS, she could not do typical cancer treatments. She died at 53 years old. With her family's blessing, this song was used in an ad for self-breast exams for cancer awareness.
Love this song. It’s on my playlist. Sadly Chrissy Amphlet passed away in 2013 from breast cancer. But this song will forever be on my playlist RIP Chrissy❤
Before Chrissy passed from breast cancer, she left the user of the song to the Australia Breast Cancer Society to use in the advertising ... best first line to detect breast cancer is to self check ... touch yourself
I saw her on MTV years ago where she said the band was at a diner talking about lyrics. They realized the people at next table were listening to their conversation so they decided to see how much they could shock them with the lyrics and wrote this song.
I've seen them live back in the early 90s Sydney Australia! I know I'm showing my age 😂 Chrissy had a stage presence the was mesmerizing she was a rock goddess.
Released 35 yrs ago. Australian kids would have been listening to this on the radio every day. I wonder if you will ever AM I ever gonna see your face again by The Angels. Every aussie sings the unwritten lines
Chrissie was an ol’ school rockstar A lot of the current women in music today should pay her an ode of gratitude She didn’t invent music but sure knew how to make a woman stand out Kudos for this reaction brother 💯♥️🇦🇺
I remember this from when I was a little kid- 11 years old. Between this, Madonna, V.C. Andrews books, and Jerry Springer that is why my mother made me watch all the After school specials lol. What a time!
The lead singer, Christy Amphlett got breast cancer and this song was used as a public service announcement for breat cancer and self exams!! Sadly we lost her way too soon!!🎵🎼🎶🫶🫶🫶
Divinyls are awesome. They were a scrappy punk/rock band before they had this major smash hit, ironically! You should check out Boys in Town, Science Fiction, or Sleepig Beauty. Really great songs.
Chrissy Amphlett had a phenomenal voice. This song was actually quite tame vocally for her. In their recordings back in the 80s she'd really let loose. Boys in Town, Science Fiction, Elsie, Only Only. Divinyls were a great power pop band from Australia.
🤣😂🤣 Great reaction to this iconic song!! The expressions on your face... priceless!!😜 Love it!!🙃 Another amazing song from around the same time is "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks... it's not of the same theme as She Bop and this one, but it's a killer tune and a female anthem for many of us back then (it still is today😉😁)! Peace and light to all...✌💞 Rest in sweet Heavenly peace Chrissy.🙏❤❤❤
I always wanted to be Chrissy when I was young. I was lucky to live 2 doors from relatives of hers & they'd do big BBQ days so got to meet her a few times. They used this song as a breast cancer awareness campaign with a lot of our women musos who contributed.
I saw them live in Sydney in the early 90s. My boss shouted all the staff tickets for Christmas. They sounded great live & were very energetic & entertaining.
Chrissy and Divinyls were a part of my teenage years and to this day I still have them on my playlist. A great Aussie band, just wish I had gotten to see them live. RIP Chrissy.
Fun fact. The video for the song was filmed in a Nunnery in Pasadena. The Divinyls were a favourite to go watch whenever they toured the pub/club circuit. Chrissie had a fantastic stage presence and made each show memorable. oh boy. I hope she's not "resting in peace" how boring. I hope she's spending the afterlife rocking with the likes of Janis Joplin, Jim Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse, Bowie, Michael Hutchance etc etc.
This was one of my fave songs summer between my Sophmore/Jr year...and you can know why!! hahaha!! "Make Out Alright" is another great track, they really didn't have many hits and sadly Christine Amphlett died in 2013. They from Australia if you care to know😁40!
Aussie here 🙋🏻♀️ This wasn’t their only hit song they had plenty of songs that us Aussie love. We call this pub rock. 😂 Their hits are Boys in Town, Back to the Wall ( was in the movie Nightmare on Elm Street), Good Die Young, (poor thing died at a young age of breast cancer. R.I.P Chrissy Amphlett) I’m Jealous, Pleasure and Pain, Only Lonely, I’ll Make You Happy, I think everyone in America only knows I Touch Myself they had more hits than that. 😂 Yes you would have heard it in the movie Austin Powers. The Fem Bots scene 😂😂😂😂
Love this song so so much! There was a lot of karaoke at my high school functions and we always sang this song- dirty without dirty words so they wouldn't stop the song❤❤
Dancing with myself was more about vanity. Billy said it was based on a visit he had to a club full of mirrors & people were dancing looking at their reflection.
RIP Chrissy - one of Australia's greats ❤

Chrissie, yep legend. An anthem for the ladies of Oz.
Many boyhood crushes started here!
I roadied for them when they supported Jimmy Barnes Working Class Man tour, Taree,NSW Australia, circa 1985. ❤
Ahh, Chrissy, a true Aussie rock legend. RIP Chrissy

True legend and star ! Great actress too
Oh Chrissy! ❤❤ Aussie rock goddess.
She loves her man, and when he ain't around, she loves herself, thinking about him
She doesn’t just touch herself, she HONESTLY does.
It was on the radio all of the time back in the day, no shocker.
This song rocks. Chrissy was phenomenal. ❤
I think this was used for breast cancer awareness in Australia.

I love their song 'I'm Jealous'.
More Punk Rock
@@Areyousayingidontknowmyname I'm thinking you don't quite know what Punk Rock is.
@@jeffmorse645 Funny i was thinking the same about you
@@jeffmorse645 To add to that the early music of theirs is hardly Pop. Only as they got more mainstream attention.
i do love when you discover Australian music 🖤💛❤

She's a great entertainer, she has a fantastic song list worth taking a look
BOYS IN TOWN and Pleasure and Pain are HUGE hits too. Listen to them... Chrissy died. Very Sad!!!
Love Pleasure and Pain. ❤
This was on the radio and video channels constantly, everyone loved singing it.
When the DJ dropped this track, all the ladies rushed to the dance floor... 😉😜
I absolutely love the subtle nods, throughout the video. like the lilies.
This was their one big hit in the US but in Australia the churned out hit after hit you wont go far wrong listening to more of their music

Love you Chrissy....so heartbroken you are gone. X
Beautiful love song. Always enjoyed this one.
Very under rated band. Her voice was amazing and the other songs on this album rock!
She doesn't just bop. She's sending Morse code.
She's double-clicking her mouse
I knew you'd like this one! I used to play it a lot when I was doing college radio.
Divine-yls

It was controversial at first, but it got radio play. It’s actually a love song. She won’t cheat if he’s not there..she’ll handle it herself. 😊

My all time favourite song xx
Billy Idol - "Dancing with myself" is a male version of this
Dancing with myself was more about vanity. Billy said it was based on a visit he had to a club full of mirrors & people were dancing looking at their reflection.
Was one of my wifes favorite songs to dance to back decades ago when we were young. Hahaha
Bro, I’m a hard classic rocker to the bone, but I’ve always loved this song!
I immediately remember this song from one of the Austin powers movies. Probably one of the funniest scenes too when he's dancing around to this song.
