    This is Eddie Brighati on vocals here. The lead singer on most of their songs was Felix Cavaliere....Gene Cornish was on guitar and Dino Danelli was the drummer...

    "It sounds like he grew up on Sinatra AND Otis Redding". Nice! In fact three of the four members of the group are actually Italian guys from New Jersey -- Dino Danelli, Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati. Eddie is singing lead on this one.

I love watching and listening to the two of you enjoying this great music from the '60s. Some amusing facts about this great song: the title was taken from a TV commercial. The record people didn't want to release it because it didn't have the usual rock beat of their other songs. (It's done in 6/8 time, not 4/4, like most rock songs; makes it harder to dance to, supposedly.) They said we're releasing it anyway, and it became a huge hit.

    You don't hear many hits these days that feature a concertina. This is one of maybe two ever that I can think of in the last 60 years.

  • @StevenW1958
    @StevenW1958 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    The track features the sounds of a trumpet, bass, piano, drums, and strings, suggesting the sounds of cabaret music as well as a concertina, chosen so as to add to the song the vibe of a French café. The song's musical styles include blue-eyed soul and pop.
    "How Can I Be Sure" was one of several songs inspired by group founder Felix Cavaliere's girlfriend Adrienne Becchuri, a Pelham (New York) high school student Cavaliere met in 1966, the year he turned 24: (Felix Cavaliere quote:) "I fell madly in love with this woman who actually turned out to be a muse...[R]eally the only reason she was in my life [was to] spark that kind of emotion and feeling that generates those types of songs." Cavaliere and Buccheri remained a couple for a year, with Cavaliere first celebrating Buccheri in the blissful Rascals' hits "Groovin'" and "A Girl Like You", and then with the introspective "How Can I Be Sure" expressing doubts about the relationship - he and Buccheri had recently become engaged - and despite the positive resolution of the song Cavaliere did in fact discover that she was too young ((Felix Cavaliere quote:)"I woke up one day and said: 'What the hell am I doing? I'm going out with a kid.'").

    THANK YOU for finally REACTING to this....no one else has.....it is my VERY FAVORITE "YOUNG RASCALS' song, in 2nd place is "GROOVIN'" FELIX CAVALIERE is the lead singer (the dark haired guy with beard in the photos, he was also the piano player in the band) Yet ANOTHER reason WHY I am SO GLAD to have been a teen and in my early 20s during the 1960's and heard SO MUCH FANTASTIC MUSIC on the radio, which most of TODAY'S music CAN'T compare with.

    Such a great song. The music in the background sounds like they are in Italy. It’s amazing! Such a classy, beautiful song!

    My mom and Dad danced to this song damn near every weekend and I’ll never come close to the finding the words to describe the love they have for each other and the 6 of us they created ❤ My Dad has brain cancer and after chemo and radiation, they still dance the best they can. I’ll never, ever, forget this song. Thank you for appreciating the feeling of love this song so perfectly captures ❤

    During the mid sixty to the 70s, there were a lot of groups like the Rascal, such as Rare Earth, Three Dog Night, Average Whie Band, the Winter Brothers, the Doobie Brothers, Chicago, so onwere hits in the black community.
