The kid's family in this actually look like they could all be related. They all have those really creepy bright almost grey, blue eyes and the Brother and Dad look a lot like him. Very good casting if they are not actually related.

This alluded to the fact that the aliens from the Invaders had an internal structure wholly different from humans. Mr. Cohen is definitely missed. RIP.

One of the rare instances where the video game scene was shot with complete authenticity. I think they actually took the time to ask people on set if anyone played them, and that kid actually happened to be a gamer. He even used a game with a long stretch of hands-off scenery so they could time it perfectly with the part of the scene where he had to look away and talk. I think this might actually be the only scene like that in film or television with complete realism and perfect cinematography. Kid wasn't even mashing, he was only pressing fire when necessary and landing every shot perfectly. Even if the footage was recorded and played back, that's still the only instance I've seen of properly acting out gameplay.

The bread itself was nothing special, just your garden variety slices of wheat bread that tasted rather bland. BTW I did get the joke and it's funny. I watched this in a drive in when I was 8 or 9 ... it was a foggy, wet and dark night and the wipers had to be on to see the screen - it was so perfect

13:51, that was pretty cool his they made that scene work. They built a tumbling room where the actors walk on a tilted set, lock down the camera, and roll the room around said camera. They did the exact same thing for The Fly.
First saw this movie when I was a kid. It was the scene you highlighted that freaked me out. It took 15 years to find the movie again so I could rewatch it and laugh hysterically at it and my 10 year old self for being afraid.
That was a great Easter egg. The movies showing at the mall were The Stuff, Back to the Future 2, Fletch, D.A.R.Y.L.,Return to Oz, and Cocoon. All these movies had plot points similar to Stranger Things
"The Stuff" might be my favorite of Larry Cohen films, though really "Q: The Winged Serpent" is probably a close if not equal. Michael Moriarty is just always so damn amazing in just about everything. He always has this oddly quirky, cavalier way of doing things that can both be humorous and intimidating, like you're never sure what he's thinking or if he's playing with you. This movie too, it's like half the time he's just fucking with the audience and it's amazing.
The moment I saw this, I was extremely hype! I love this movie. Thank you for doing this movie...and honestly ALL the movies you do. I *legitimately* laugh watching every review you do.

I had totally forgotten this movie had quite a few future Law and Order actors in it. The scene of Chocolate Chip Charlies death has been ingrained in my brain since first seeing it as a kid back in the 80s. The VFX for that are pretty damn good too.

Sweet, a movie I saw as a kid ON TV DURING THE DAY!!! Same with one of the Invasion of the Bodysnatchers with the trippy space spooge opening! Same time period seen too. Day possibly even. They really showed some twisted stuff back then. IT ROCKED!

The scene of Chocolate Chip Charlies death has been ingrained in my brain since first seeing it as a kid back in the 80s. The VFX for that are pretty damn good too.
