Did the film end with the detective all burned up and the cemetery, or with the girl bending down to pet the zombie dog and getting a slug shot at the camera for a jump scare ending? I've only seen the dog ending, so this was new to me.
@@Zafocaine The ending on this video was what the director originally wanted, but the studio replaced it with the dog shooting out a slug at Cynthia. Until the Blu Ray was released, the only way you could see the director's preferred ending was to catch the TV version, which also included a deleted scene of Cynthia and some sorority sisters making cookies, oblivious to slugs scampering around.
I'm thrilled. (After this Review) By the way: Only now I noticed that the naked clubhead alien, which had blown the creeps into space at the beginning, had cloudy eyes (i.e. was already infested by the creatures themselves).
They thought they could escape. But they were tracked. And now those aliens are going to rid those creeps from existence, or capture them and rid them from our planet, for good. Hopefully that’s what they did anyway.🤞..

@@zetetick395 well in Killer Klowns people thought it was a meteor but the ship had landed deliberately and then moved to the town itself before the climax.
That was the studio-approved ending that was shown in theaters because the executives, having NO clue how to sell the film, wanted to put a jump scare scene at the end. Knowing the film's narrative, it doesn't work.
Yeah, that's the ending I got the first time I saw this back in -86. It was the ending on VHS rental here in Finland. Was surprised later on, when I re-watched it on DVD and it had that other ending.
Yup, studio fired Tim Miller after he refused to cut his two hour film down to ninety minutes then the studio hired a new director to make the edits & change the original ending but, Tim got the last laugh because the studio never bothered to secure the TV distribution rights so Tim bought them, and Tim was given the footage cut from his original version of the film because the studio saw it as garbage. So Tim took the footage the studio gave him, painstakingly restored his cut of the film AT HIS OWN HOUSE, because he had the TV distribution rights Tim made sure his version was the one that aired on basic cable and there wasn't a damn thing the Studio could do about it.
Surprised you didn't mention that the ending with burnt Tom Atkins and the Aliens in the cemetery was the Director's Cut ending. The theatrical version ending had the dog coming back and infecting Cynthia. Love this movie and this review. It's a favorite of mine to watch on Halloween.
Spent a year, ok 2 years... Ok a little more than that... working in a video store around 1990. Alphabetizing VHS cassettes was not my strong point but I got to take home any movies that hadn’t rented! This was one of my most favorite :) Dont forget there is a “making of” thing about it called Thrill Me!
Tom Atkins’ career seemed to really take off in 1980 (“The Fog”) when he was 45! It’s nice to see determination and patience lead to success. He’s 88 now (in 2024) and he looks MUCH younger.
I recently found out that a Detective Cameron action figure once existed. Unfortunately I don’t think it has a pull-string that allows it to say, “Thrill me!” and “It’s Miller Time!” Lol.
I just finished watching the In Search of Darkness-documentary before I saw this, and while there are plenty of great people being interviewed in that movie, Tom Atkins really left an impression of being a great guy next to being a great actor, talking about these roles with such joy that it really shows that he cared about them and horror-movies in general. A real class act.
Okay one thing, the reason why at the beginning the two aliens were chasing the one with the canister was because he was infected, you can see his eyes were white Just thought I point that out, always thought it was a cool detail
Oh my gosh I was so excited to see this come up on my feed. I love this movie and watch it whenever I run across it. Big dose of nostalgia for me on this one.
To be fair, I think the guy working in the morgue / research facility had entered in like 90% of the code before the phone rang, and J.C. just happened to punch in the right number to finish it. It's still a pretty contrived way to get them into a secure area so they can get their corpse-sicle, though. Also, I thought the "I love you" part was J.C. knowing he was a goner and trying to explain how much he cared about his best friend. Though unrequited love works, too.
'Killers" is a good album. Gotta luv Eddie, always nice to see him at their concerts back in the day, and the Iron maiden Album art was killer too. Sad the loss of vinyl album art, now.

One on the best and most atmospheric horror titles ever. Thank you for this nostalgic throwback!
Heh. Saw this one in the theater opening night. Contributed my part to their half million box office take, at least. :)
And how much was a ticket that night? Like $1.50?
That Baby Herman joke had me cracking up! I forgot how much I loved the effects in this movie
I'm thrilled. (After this Review)
By the way: Only now I noticed that the naked clubhead alien, which had blown the creeps into space at the beginning,
had cloudy eyes (i.e. was already infested by the creatures themselves).
They thought they could escape. But they were tracked. And now those aliens are going to rid those creeps from existence, or capture them and rid them from our planet, for good. Hopefully that’s what they did anyway.🤞..
Some TV versions I had seen left out the opening scene and left out the true ending so there was no clue where the slugs had came from.
this is one of my favorite movies of the 80s. not just horror, one of my favorite movies
3:50 that comment was so disgusting. Bad Brendon! Bad!
(continues to watch video...)
10:50 wow! There’s so many zingers in this video Hostess might have to file a copyright strike.
18:39 Miller is like Coors: a cheap beer with a great tag line, which is what he says
The meteor landing was clearly a reference to The Blob.
Beware the blob. I hear it creeps
And leaps and glides and slides
Across the floor
But mostly creeps. Mostly at night.
I was watching NOTC and there was a scene where a parade of police cars passed a diner that was the same one in the 1958 version of "The Blob".
The whole 'nasty alien thing from a crash-landed meteor' is a classic 50s B Movie trope, looooads of 'em start out that way.
(in another 80's b movie you see it in _Killer Klowns from Outer Space_ (1988) as well)
@@zetetick395 well in Killer Klowns people thought it was a meteor but the ship had landed deliberately and then moved to the town itself before the climax.
I remember the other ending with the slug jumping out of the dog into the girlfriend!
Yeah that was the ending I saw when I rented this on tape back in the day.
@@Vamroc What was the movie?
Surprised you didn't mention that the ending with burnt Tom Atkins and the Aliens in the cemetery was the Director's Cut ending. The theatrical version ending had the dog coming back and infecting Cynthia.
Love this movie and this review. It's a favorite of mine to watch on Halloween.
About time you did this gem!
Such a great movie that not enough people have seen
Okay one thing, the reason why at the beginning the two aliens were chasing the one with the canister was because he was infected, you can see his eyes were white
Just thought I point that out, always thought it was a cool detail
The nostalgia from re-watching these 80's scary movies is bittersweet. I really miss those days
I managed to find this on blu ray and I love it. I have always really loved this movie for how cheesy it is and finding it on blu ray was wonderful.
Oh my gosh I was so excited to see this come up on my feed. I love this movie and watch it whenever I run across it. Big dose of nostalgia for me on this one.
Omg that Tommy Hilfiger line had me dying! 😂😂
The guy playing Brad also played Bubba on "Mama's Family" one of my favs from the 80's! 😁👍
'Killers" is a good album. Gotta luv Eddie, always nice to see him at their concerts back in the day, and the Iron maiden Album art was killer too. Sad the loss of vinyl album art, now.
I guess no one ever saw Mama's family because that's Allan Kaysar ( bubba) playing the fraternity house leader
So glad to see someone else noticed this!
I love this movie ! it was thanks to my dad that I manage to see it when I was little but in the version that I saw I never got to see the alien ship at the end.
YES! Holy crap, this is one of my favorites!
You're Reviews are fantastic! I've watched a ton of great flicks thanks to your reviews.
wearing the Thrill Me shirt now! whenever I wear it outside people, especially cashiers, always look concerned because he is holding a shotgun on the front.
Concerned because of a t shirt...ok then
Got this on bluray, thank you
That one alien at the very start, yeah; he was infected and dead. You can tell by his glazed over, zombie-like eyes.
Awesome video, great flick. Also watched Night of the Demons the other day and it was a blast. I never tire of Linnea Quigley 😎👍
Imagine Tom Adkins getting in bed with his wife wearing a suit, lighting a cigarette and saying "thrill me"
Sorry I'm late!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I have it in my DVD Collection, a 2 disc Blu Ray Special Edition with the original cut and Director's Cut! I remember watching this on Syfy in 2006.
This movie includes my favorite Rusty Griswold, from European Vacation.
Jason Lively, my fave Rusty too
Aww come on what about Nick Pappageorgio. Luckiest guy on Earth
@@rogermazuca4582 true. He is my second favorite.
@@wstine79 yeah you're right, it could go either way. That line though...whoaa you look cool. I feel cool.
Same hes my favorite rusty!!!
I saw this movie as a kid. I've spent over 30 years trying to find it again. The slugs piled in the corner is the one scene I always remembered. Thank you for this. I finally found a long lost memory.
Mormon don’t drink beer and still know that “it’s miller time” is a beer slogan for millers beer.
The eyeball thing with the bus driver always freaked me out
Well that settles it, from now on I will answer the phone with "Thrill me."
I love these 80's cult movies grew up on them and a lot of them have a special place in my heart
You are so cool Brandon!
Thanks for doing this one! It's been one of my favs since i was a kid!
You should review night of the living dead 1990 remake by Tom savini a great remake.
A bit blasphemous but this is one of those rare times where the remake was arguably better than the original.
I remember when this movie played on UHF in my local area in the 90s. One of my favorites.
I wonder how many, "Night of The..." movies are out there?
Night of the lepus
I counted ten without imdb, perhaps 5-10 more in reality.
A lot of them are pretty good, too! There's a 50s movie called Night Of The Demon that's worth checking out.
I remember "Its Miller Time" from Ghostbusters.
The ending that you have here is the original ending, but it wasn't the ending to the theatrical release.
A 1962 Ford Falcon in 1959?" McFlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“It's Miller Time" is a reference to Miller Beer and the Miller commercials of the 80s. “If you've got the time, we've got the beer. Miller Beer." 🍻
You kind of forgot the alternate ending this movie has.
We do not talk about that ending.
One of my very favourites. Thank you so much. Tom Atkins is outstanding in this movie.
