So, just because I'm a bit confused since i've just downloaded the engine, to make it it's own "game", you copy the entire MUGEN folder and rename everything? I noticed people are just adding characters so I assume that's how you do it (like Hyper DBZ) right?
You COULD just add your own characters, but the Hyper DBZ ones, are actually "made" for there own game. So either make your own character OR use other peoples characterz

I have a question however, it's racking my brain, I think I have an idea but what I want to do is make 4 players show up on the vs screen (tag) I'm assuming I will create 4 portraits and then have the vs screen load their reference numbers from my sff (after making the images and importing them into with FF) and animate them to come in or leave static , whichever. BUT -- how do I tell the game to load the portraits of whoever the player(s) chosen character? I'm assuming I need to rename all my chars with like a b c d etc as a font, but I'm not sure how to do that. Any help would be appreciated!
In the 9000 sprite group where you have portraits, MUGEN standards are only 9000,0 and 9000,1. Can I add another 9000,2 so that the small icon for the character select is different from the small icon in the life bar? For example: Character select icon face is front view profile. Life bar icon face is facing sideways

stevenukem there is literally a setting in the system.def that enables the default victory screen. its the same concept as everything else in the screenpack.
i know that and its been activated, its just how to build a custom victory screen is all because when i build mine, i get black screen with a misaligned picture with no text
Its the exact same as the select and vs. backgrounds. look for ;----------------------- ;Victory screen background [VictoryBGdef] [VictoryBG 1] and use the [VictoryBG ] stuff to show your images and objects.
used to...i mean i kinda remember how my charictor looked. truth is i wanna jus try changing how charactors look. gambit would be the 1 i wanna change to look completly different like evil ken or other evil ryu s out there. do u kno how i could go about doin that

more than likely your telling it to display the wrong animation, or the animation is wrong

it varies for each person. But I recommend 1.0 over winmugen. its offically updated, superior in coding, and allows more.

no. 9000,2 is also reserved in mugen 1.0 and 1.1, its for victory screen post.
system.def under [Select BG] , you need to have the sprite in the SFF.

I guess your right you need to be doing a lot of editing to warrant a change to something like sublime text text pastry etc

then you should download a copy of mugen 1.0 and look for it and copy it, just the victory thing i mean.
