Hi Ask GameDev. I made my own short puzzle game called A-Mazed! Sorry for the pun. I have used unreal engine to make this and i'm finally successful on my first game as a 10 year-old! Hope you like it: gamejolt.com/games/A-mazed/469386

Now we just need to hear some devs that had a very unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign and compare. (-> survivorship bias)

Good point! If there are any devs out there who've had unsuccessful campaigns and would like to share their experience, please reach out to us :)

Just make a crappy 2d game and some fetishist will back it. I noticed that first/third person games with average to good graphics always fail, while pixel cr@p (definition of bad graphics and dumb gameplay) always get successful. I guess it is due to demographics of people interested in backing. Certainly not young people who enjoy quality looking games but boomers and their obsession with retro.

Tips on what NOT to do are probably useful as well!

@@brutal6129 Hoping you don’t think the same way you did three years ago, but if you do:
The art style of a game certainly *does not* mean the graphics are bad, or that the gameplay is dumb. Nothing about pixel art is “bad quality”; artists put a lot of time and effort into their works regardless of their medium, and it’s certainly not just older people that have a fondness for retro-style games, either
Just because an older generation of games’ art is defined by pixel art doesn’t mean a game is low-quality if released in pixel art nowadays, that’s a pretty ludicrous claim

And as it was said, about failures and mistakes too. And thank your channel for your work! №1 channel in my indie gamedev list. :-)

I'll be crowd funding my game.
It's a deck building game unlike any that's been put together before. Tokens of Natura has octagon shaped creature and spells cards due to the mechanics of combat and strategy that takes place on the gameboard each turn.
Additionally, there will be an extensive storyline behind the game too, so that if multiplayer battles and ranking isn't your thing, you can instead explore a campaign to soothe your need for the next complex journey you've been waiting to go on.

So we are planning a kickstarter after that, in Q3 or Q4. Do you think that some Qs are better then others for start a crownfouding campain?
