  • The Battle of Waterloo is without a doubt one of the most famous battles of all times. The old-fashioned battle between Napoleon Bonaparte and the Duke of Wellington still appeals to the imagination of people of all ages all around the world. But what is still there today to see of the Battle of Waterloo? What can you visit? Is it worth it to make the trip from Brussels? Are there still remnants of the actual battlefield?
Join me on a walk of the Waterloo Battlefields Today to prepare for your trip or to see the reminders of the Battle of Waterloo from behind your screen. In Part 2, we'll continue our walk around the remnants of the Battle of Waterloo. In this video, I'll take you literally around the Hougoumont Farm, where some of the heaviest fighting took place. It's where the battle started and continued all day. But you'll also get a good idea of the nature of the actual battle 'fields' with its ridges and slopes.

I apologize for the recent comments. We people come from a game called "Guts & Blackpowder" and the game takes inspiration from Napoleonic Wars. We are a very active community 😅

i have been to the field at Waterloo, the camera does not show it well as it looked not very steep the slope. The fields go up and down, I mainly saw the the mound , the la belle alliance and the La hay Sainte. There are musket holes in the farm wall there, but the fields are deceptive as i have said they go up and own. I also went to napoleon's view point as well. You have to remember in June 18th 1815 the fields were quiet muddy and water logged (it rained the night before and most of the morning), the roads were not like today clean and well made, it was just a track or pathway then that would have been water logged as well. So trying to get a cross the fields that is muddy, in full combat gear or horse back while facing musket and cannon fire would be damn hard. Also the visibility would be near impossible with smoke from cannons and thousands of muskets from both side were going off. They used black power in 1815. There are lots of memorials on the battlefield site as well esp. to the British, Brunswickers and the imperial guard just past la belle alliance. When I went in 1992 i was on my own and the building was a discotheque lol. I was very surprised at the amount of individual British memorials on the site. It was all very sad for both sides. I was shocked at the mound, i hated it and loved it at the same time and yes i climbed the steps

This is an excellent video and the historical overview is spot on. I also appreciate your pronunciation of the Hougoumont farm and other locations. It sincerely helps those of us who primarily rely on written sources. You have inspired me to return to the battlefield after more than 20 years. Thank you.

So glad you enjoyed it and you’re inspired to return. It actually looks more authentic now than it did 20 years ago and the new museum is great!

You have a great eye for filming vistas and points of view that matter to history buffs, enthusiasts and wargamers who know much of the history of the battle. THANK YOU for producing and publishing these!!!

Merci pour cette vidéo très intéressante.
I have visited Northern France and Belgium but it was 20 years ago and was mainly focused on Ypres and the WW2 massacre at Wormhoudt.
But I have always wanted to visit Waterloo as my father served in the Royal Scots Greys in the 1950s and although he was 100% English he always loved the regiment and Scotland.
I hope to get there in 2024 on a driving holiday and your videos have definitely increased my determination to do so.
    Thanks again et joyeux Noel

The sound is quite poor and you are hard to understand through the white noise. Some nice views.
