I’ve been pitching men’s fastpitch since 1989. I take my glove hand from pointing at catcher at release and bring it to my face after the pitch. Many times I’ve caught a rocket shot headed for my face. I also wear shin guards under the pants because you can’t stop a hit there and I’ve seen two shins shattered.
Should be left up to the player and parents to decide. The mask is going to reduce performance. Give people the option but don’t force everyone to comply.
No it’s stupid I have sons and daughters. My girls have to look silly instead of teaching them to get out of the way or cover your face? My boys are pitcher and the other is a catcher/pitcher and they are very much aware that when pitching that ball might come right back so always be ready. I’m all about equality. If my boys don’t wear them neither should my girls. If they are afraid to get hit, same thing I told my boys get over it or get off the field.
Instead of giving them a facemask, let them get hit until they learn to catch the ball coming at their face, nobody bats an eye about mlb wearing facemasks like Chapman who throws consistently over 100mph

After the pitch you need to get into a defensive position

I agree
I don't think its a bad idea, but they should have the choice.
