@zetagundam20x Nah, the *entirety* of the Classic through ZX time is like Mesopotamia at best to them. The early dawn of civilization. It's been *that* fucking long. It's been so long, in fact, that you could play out the entirety of the events of the rest of the franchise, including Battle Network and Star Force, and their intervening time gaps five times without reaching Legends. The gap between ZX and Legends is more comparable to the real life time between the dawn of human civilization and today, possibly even larger.
Also pretty sad that the ZX series was about the most peaceful the Megaman timeline has been since Classic and that civilization eventually got wiped out by yet another apocalypse but not before some sort of lunar AI was set up that would genocide civilization to keep the population under control. (haven't played the second game; no spoilers please)
Megaman Legends just has so much charm. The characters, the art style, the goofy story and characters. It all just works. I remember as a kid the dungeons used to creep me out.
it's not just for that era, it still is impressive even by today's standard, in term of facial expressions and emotions the characters gives, for anime aesthetic games i mean
Yeah, the relatively simple body shapes and the emphasis on facial expressions really add a lot. I'm surprised more games didn't attempt a similar style when this holds up so much better than those that went for more conventional or realistic artstyles. Closest I can think off the top of my head is a game called Silent Bomber and Legend of Dragoon; both of which suffer from overcomplicated character designs that don't translate well to polygons.
My favorite part of this graphical style is that not only did they animate the textures during cutscenes, but they are drawn based on the angle the camera is, showing the sides of their mouths and what not that would look crazy from another angle. It's such an amazing detail that could easily have been overlooked.

So very glad to hear the positive experience with this game from you, John. Maybe after the next 2 games you'll know why having MML3 canceled was a huge blow to fans of this series. So many unanswered questions.
Honestly I'm surprised legends 3 didn't happen when the PS4 gen and Nintendo switch sales were so great due to the install base plus you can't tell us that Capcom isn't aware of the fan base.
It was an absolute tragedy 💔 MML holds a special place in my heart regardless. I'd absolutely buy a modern re-release in a heartbeat, whether it had MML3 or not. Sadly Idk if we will ever see an ending to the story.. but I enjoyed what we got immensely.
@@TommyDeonauthsArchives Johnny used the unkown item sound when his brother told him they were out of Pepsi in the Metroid Zero Mission review. I used it in reference to Volnutt's fate for the past... HOLY SHIT TWENTY THREE YEARS!
From a chronological perspective, after each MegaMan sequel series kept changing up the artstyle more and more, Legends ultimately went back to a more Classic-like visual approach, with it being so far into the future and with a different gameplay style. I know it was kinda unintentional since Zero/ZX came out later, but in hindsight it's an interesting tidbit. It's also worth noting how Roll C. and Tron B. had a lot more overall involvement than past female characters in the previous series up to that point, a new tradition that has kept going in the following ones with Ciel, Ashley, Roll EXE, etc.
There is this thing in the Legends game about a "dark megaman", think of it as a karma system and that makes the npcs and even Roll to react to you in different ways. I'm not surprised that John didnt encounter much of it since he did played the game the most standard way for a first run (just like me back in the day). While this "karma" system is not that big of a deal on this game, the 2nd game (Legends 2) has much more attach to it and I do hope Johnny will see this comment at around a time before he starts Legends 2 and maybe starts thinking about it.
One thing i love about legend is that even by today's standards, the amount and variety of facial expressions are amazing! Even in modern anime aesthetic games you don't get as much, look at the tales of games, or the trails games, and a lot more, i can't think of a single one who is as well done as legends on that one point! (there's some fighting games, but not really the same imo)
Xenosaga III and I think the last couple Xenoblades (can't confirm; haven't played) did a decent job with facial animations on 3D character models. Still, the problem with most anime games these days is that most feel like they were cobbled together in the same game engine on the cheap and just use talking head portraits in place of actual animations. I'm honestly fine with that as long as the game is fun, but it is definitely indicative of the budget and time these games are made in.
This game, to date, has one of my favorite aesthetics of any game. There's just something perfect about it's bright, blocky models and pixelated textures. It's almost Lego-like with how blocky everything is. They took the limitations of the time and instead of trying to achieve some impossible level of realism, they went all-in on style. And man...I have played this game _so_ many times. I love it, it was one of the first 3D games I ever played and even today I can pick it up and dive right back in like no time has passed since I was in junior high. I do hope we get a Legends collection at some point, even if it is only 3 games. I've never played he Tron Bonne game, and I would love to play these games on my Switch.
Considering how some classic franchises struggled, or even failed to make a good transition to 3D (see Mega Man X7), it's rather impressive how well Mega Man handled it on its first go. What makes it so impressive to me is how much Legends deviated from the established Mega Man formula, yet made it work beautifully That is not a small feat
Mega Man Juno introduced me to Bach with his theme music, taught me some very neat words, and unnerved me by being very evil while remaining amiable and polite. He's one of my favorite villains, and it's a pity that he didn't get more screen time.
The deep blue skies, world covered with water, enemy design, and the apocalyptic themes towards the end of Megaman Legends always reminded me of Neon Genesis Evangelion. It gives the game's plot so much gravitas thinking about it in that sense.
@@weirdstuffcorp8584 You're not wrong, that was the case before he moved out of state to move in with his GF instead. He is going back there so it might be a return to that status quo lol.
This is it! This is the one I've been waiting for! Johnny's looking at my favorite game of all time! Around the 15 minute mark Johnny talks about the apricot pie line. I can't quite remember if it's part of the same conversation or not but when roll asks Megaman if he remembers their very first dig where he got trapped underground for 3 days is when I realized even as a kid, that this was a living breathing world of sorts. And it's that reason I think to this day that MegaMan Legends remains my favorite game of all time Oh and because I've gotta say it I guess. MegaMan isn't TECHNICALLY a robot in this game as I'm sure Johnny will figure out either in post or by the time he gets to the second game seeing as he called him one during the plots synopsis
@@LegallyBlindGaming727 all we know is that he "reset" his body but they never stated if that body was carbon or not. Make no mistake he is not a robot and that is established as early as the first game. But it's fun to think about whether a purifier unit is something slightly different to a carbon or not. Like, can any carbon just "reset" their body if they knew how? We know they can casually swap out arms and parts but a full reset?
The helmet upgrade in Legends 1 looks weird, like it's too big for Volnutt's head, so usually I just don't wear it. Legends 2, though, it looks a lot better and I keep it on once I get it. Also, something I noticed when going through Mega Man Zero 3 again recently was that there was a refractor in the background of Cubit Foxtar's boss room. I thought it was a neat little detail.
Christ has it really been about 10 years? I remember coming home from school excited for the next part of yalls legends playthrough cause it was one of my favorite games when I was a kid.
I knew about the Teisel VA thing beforehand so seeing you mention him being your favorite before mentioning That Thing had me experience every human emotion in the span of 3 seconds
15:57 its only now that im much older do I appreciate this. It's one of those little things you dont think about, but it's really so charming. Man, I forgot how much I loved this game.
@@JakeTylenol MML3 was announced by Inafune pretty much months or weeks before he left Capcom, for the then-upcoming Nintendo 3DS. There were other projects like an FPS X reboot and an MMO, then the Universe thing with a very ugly design but was supposed to be pretty much what Mario Maker would be, but for Megaman. All of that was cancelled when he left.
I can't help it. It's not a lack of literacy there at 15:58 that's making him sound stilted. It's the fact that he's reading ancient lettering, and he doesn't know why he can, as he states in the following cinematic. It's actually incredibly well directed, and acted by a 14-year-old, really.
It's crazy to think that, thanks to the visual direction of the Legends games, they achieve the effect of cel-shaded 3D before the tech was really possible. I'm crossing my fingers that a revival of Legends is on Capcom's docket after they get through releasing the Battle Network Legacy Collection.
Briefly looking it up, he was convicted on child porn charges in 2008, which is where all his acting roles stopped for obvious reason. He later got charged for similar things in 2020, and found dead that year. I only did a cursory glance, but it's odd that there's 12 years of nothing, followed by the same sort of crimes, followed by a random death.
@@flarestorm9417 It wasn't a random death. An arrest warrant was out AGAIN for him doing what he only served 10 months for the first time and then, he drowned himself in a lake. Good riddance and sadly, if there's any reason we may never get these games re-released, it's because of what Rob Smith did.
@@flarestorm9417 Is it odd? Dude liked diddling kids, only got 20 months for it the first time but it tanked his VA career, continued to like diddling kids, had another arrest warrant out for liking to diddle kids, and killed himself. @@superoldgamesaturday3277 I doubt that the actions of one guy is going to keep a game from being re-released. If that was the case, 50% of all media would be gone by now.
The voice acting for this game, particularly for the English voices, really surprised me with how good it was. It feels like lots of Japanese games at the time with English dubs either had low effort or low budget dubs that paled in comparison to the originals.
"It will be the *Bonnes* will have the last laugh in this game!" ...wait, he's right. I never played this myself as a kid, just watched my brother play it, but I never realized that Teisel said that and was right about it. In this game, the final scene is the Bonnes sailing away (Bon in tow, as seen around 11:20), with a crane holding the giant Rainbow Refractor found in the Main Gate. He was an antagonist who was 100% right about winning.
Been here since around 2013, and I'll be here when you hit 1mil. No idea how that hasn't happened yet, easily one of the best gaming channels on the platform
Fun fact: Bon Bonne is voiced by Ikue Ōtani, the same voice actress who plays Pikachu in the Pokemon anime series. Just in case this series wasn't giving enough Pokemon vibes as is, given that the Bonne family, and I mean this in the best way possible, are basically Team Rocket. lol.
“And here we are… about _ten years later.”_ I was _nine_ when I watched that Legends playthrough. I’m nineteen now, and about to start college. Johnny what the fuck
I can relate. I never watched that letsplay of Mega Man: Legends but I have been watching somecallmejohnny since around 2012 when he was doing his 3D Sonic re-reviews including Sonic 06 and in that time I went from middle school to the last year at university and here I am thinking to myself "it's already been 11 YEARS?!".
I was first introduced to you through the SGB mega man legends let’s play 10 years ago. It’s nice to see you finally play this yourself. This game is by far my favorite mega man game so I’m glad you enjoyed it. Stay safe out there Johnny.
It’s a shame about the tank controls, but this game LOOKS fun. The aesthetic & lay out of these levels makes me wanna jump in! I especially like the design & animation for the enemy at @23:29
Check it out. The game never seems to ask you to do stuff with the controls that is that hard... Except the final race as Johnny said. Also don't sleep on the weapons, they can be insanely powerful and useful. Especially the sword in Legends 2, which seems to do damage every frame or something crazy like that. Literally deleted a boss in less than 5 seconds with that thing, and it wasn't fully upgraded.
Managed to snatch a copy for 20 bucks, even got me an old KB Toys receipt from it. While this game isn’t in my favorites anytime soon, it has a great cult following and I do feel like the Legends series could be revitalized. Like giving them Legacy Collections, remaking the original games or even just doing a sequel. It’s uncertain, but hopefully Capcom does more with Legends or Mega Man in general in the foreseeable future.
It's inresting that the Legends-series was originaly meant to be it's own continuity before it was retconed to take place at the end of the main universe. There's the canon timeline: The Classic-series ➡️ The X-series ➡️ the Zero-series ➡️ the ZX-series ➡️ the Legends-series
Great video as always! I feel like the importance of carbons is that it's sort of like X's ideal future made realized, where there's no distinction between man and reploid (even more so than the zx era), and everyone is happily living their lives. Also really important weird translation thing, megaman iirc in the Japanese version of the game is simply revered to as Rock Volnut (not even rockman). Because him being a megaman/rockman unit like Juno was supposed to be a bigger twist for the characters lol.
Knowing he's called Rock Volnutt in Japan would make his name origin make more sense too. Roll apparently named him after "a video game character that she liked" and in English the idea that a guardian would allow a child under his care to be called "Megaman" just because his granddaughter wanted it sound really goofy. Granted the name "Rock" still isn't the most normal, but it's not too far fetched in a world where people can be named Roll or Barrel.
@@randomnpc445 I could be mistaken, but I believe the part about him being named after a video game character was added in translation because Capcom's American branch didn't realize it was part of the same timeline.
Man, who would've thunk the Main Character, who looks like Megaman, was actually Megaman ALL this time? (No seriously, that was suppose to be a twist? Stuff with Juno, the Monkey Fella, and the Carbons was more of a Twist I wasn't expecting.)
@@Da_ComputerMonster It's more complicated than that; "Rockman" in the game is used as a title rather than a name, and it's one that both Trigger and Juno share.
This game has great aesthetics! It's like cell shading 3D but with visible pixels. Very charming. I'd like to see what could be done today in this style but with more polish, like what the pixel art/retro games community made in the past decade. The models are a bit too blocky since it's the playstation 1, but it still holds up very well, especially the colors and the character designs. Some parts of the scenery remind me of point and click games.
Mega man Legends 1 is in my top 10 of all time favorite games. I remember playing it at like 6 years old aimlessly running around and slowly figuring out what to do. And now I enjoy trying to speed run it
i love this game so much. same with the other two games. i know the tank controls and legend of zelda style gameplay loop is a bit weird for a megaman game, but it was a good trade for such a fun cast of characters... that and i just like a slower paced game at times. this game really is something special. oh, and gameplay tip, while the first game is pretty lenient about experimentation with special weapons, you really should only focus on one or two per playthrough. it's a short experience that's meant to be revisited if their actual upgrade design is anything to go by. that's why the top tier upgrades are so expensive and why they cut all the costs in half for the japanese PSP versions.
Arguably the best aesthetics of any game, timeless, also a pretty big homage to Castle in the Sky, so much of the enemies and ruins designs are straight up from that movie.
I feel one of the caveats missing about Legends control scheme is that the game only came out a month after the Dualshock was released, so I imagine most of the game was developed without the intention of it needing analog controls.
I forget where I read this, but I remember reading that the difference between Carbons and normal humans is that Carbons have a much easier time augmenting themselves with cybernetic implants- in fact, Mega Man's blue armor is literally a separate equippable body! ...which does lead to some unsettling implications about how all that works behind the scenes but that's neither here nor there.
This video is very nostalgic for me, personally. The SGB Mega Man Legends playthrough is what introduced me to Johnny, Matt, and Elliot and lead me to this channel and later BSC.
I still have to finish the Zero and ZX games before watching Johnny's videos on them, so this is my first new Johnny video in a while and boy did I need it. Thanks for uploading today, making me feel a little better, and giving me something to look forward to sir!
I struggle to find decent videos about one of my favorite games and series (Legends series), so I'm grateful this exists. The themes and tone this game evokes are for me are one of a kind, a lost ancient and advanced civilization, that cozy feeling, their fare share of mysteries, the Saturday morning feel, I think only skies of arcadia. I love this game in spite of it's flaws
I've been hyped to hear your thoughts on the Legends since like the time you looked at Network Transmission and briefly brought it up. So many good memories with Legends, I remember watching the LP on SGB so long ago, happy to see the video.
I hear talk that the Shining Laser special weapon in the game was created from MegaMan X's buster. I love it when there's little things like that to directly connect the various MegaMan series' because they're so rare.
This is one of the early 3D games that would be so amazing with a full remake. It's biggest problem was using "tank controlls" because this was a game from before analog sticks were standard on controllers. It's also slow and clunky. These are also easily fixed by simply remaking the game from modern systems. They don't even have to go crazy with with a visual update. I think it visually aged better than most games of its Era.
One thing you didn't touch on, which I don't blame you because it's not obvious at all, is that this game has a morality system in it. Being a jerk to people in dialogue as well as some other actions will tint Volnutt's armor darker, and alter some NPC dialogue about him. It's not all that consequential though, and being a good person doesn't really do anything, so it's easy to miss and not really an important part of the game.
Man, I love this game. I remember beating it on PS2 after losing my PS1 memory card. Kicking you back to the main menu for dying in this game was brutal, but made for a fun challenge. I need to go pick up the other two games, I need more Bonne family shenanigans. Glad to see people still agree it holds up well!
A major reason the voice acting is a lot better here is because it was done by a recording studio in Toronto, Ontario where several shows were done, such as Monster by Mistake and the dub of Sailor Moon, where as Mega Man 8 and X4 had their dubs done in Japan by whoever Capcom could find who could speak English.
fun fact: the Japanese voice actress of mega man vollnut voiced Monkey D. Luffy from one piece, Krillen from dragon ball, and jynx in Pokemon anime series in Japanese.
It matters that they're artificial because they can literally plug robot parts into themselves and they'll work perfectly. They're extremely advanced reploids
One of my favorite games so glad you enjoyed it! The game is just oozing with charm I love helping all the citizens out with their problems. Being able to spend money to repair damaged buildings was such a nice touch and really helps the player create a strong connection with the island. I was always invested in the different happenings and genuinely wanted to help more because I enjoyed it over the potential rewards. Just a chill and pleasant game to play
Is Lewis still one of John's editors? The editor's notes feel like I'm watching a segment of Brainscratch. The informative anecdote of Legends 1 released before Ocarina of Time introduced the Z-Target system carries Lewis vibes for me. Whoever they are, it's nice to see a touch of personality in the editing style in John's videos more often. Always loved touches like that, gives more character to the video to compliment John's hosting. Personable editors are kinda like co-hosts in a way.
Legends is my true MegaMan. I absolutely love the story and lore. The second game really ups the story and lore and makes a lot of improvements over the first. This is a yearly playthrough for me. Hopefully you enjoy Misadventures and Legends 2. Misadventures is really fun, but entirely different. Legends 2 will be return to form.
I had that ball kicking mini game down to a science! You don't move at all because centering yourself is not possible. If you kick the ball just before it stops in front of you it'll shoot off to the right and if you time it right you can hit the dog when it's on the right side. You gotta keep kicking the ball even when it won't hit so you can get the dogball sooner.
I'm a huge Megaman fan and have always been obsessed with the legend series upon there release and own all 3. I found this channel in hopes that one day you would review this and it finally happened, great video man.
I just played Legends 1 and Tron Bonne for the first time. These games just ooze charm and personality. Can't wait to see what you think about Tron and Legends 2!
For the first several months of owning a Playstation, my brother and I didn't have a Memory Card, so we couldn't save progress once we were done playing. This wasn't a problem until we got Megaman Legends and were therefore unable to go further than the fights against Tron and Bon Bonne due to time constrictions. Eventually we did get a Memory Card and were able to finish the game and enjoy Legends 2 and Misadventures of Tron Bonne, but even before that I still enjoyed playing the beginning of the game over and over for the setting and characters.
It's quite impressive that they managed to achieve a cel-shading visual style for an original PlayStation game, they wanted Mega Man's jump to 3D be as visually distinct as possible (with Mega Man Volnutt being my second favorite Mega Man design (first being X). The controls, however, are a product of its time, as was the case with many PlayStation titles before the release of the DualAnalog controller. (Though, I do wonder what it would have been like if the PlayStation launched with the DualAnalog controller all the way back in 1994) It really is games like Mega Man Legends that remind me why I love the 5th an 6th generation of consoles, with its colorful visuals, involving gameplay, a great cast of characters, and the occasional silly moments.
2:53 Hot take, Megaman and Bass wasn't bad, you all just have no patience :) Wish the SNES got an official translation though, then I won't need to play the game with screen crunch. 16:48 Really didn't need to know this.
This franchise was so beloved that the characters continue to make appearances in other capcom games. Like the servbots head can be seen in Dead Rising, Tron and Volnutt appear as playable fighters in Marvel Vs Capcom series and Vs Tatsunoko (for Wii) respectively
I love SO MUCH about this game. I just replayed it recently. I thought the art direction was excellent and I genuinely LIKE the voice acting outside of the opening crawl. The tank controls are easily the worst part of this game and I hope those will be adjusted for a remake. I can't wait to play Mega Man Legends 2
It's funny: this game's presentation scratches a certain itch for me, and I've hardly played past the first five minutes or so on an emulator probably about a decade ago. I have a PS3, so I guess I'll have to look into getting this trilogy!
Strafing is most definitely a technique you want to master for this game. It's *very* effective in taking down most bosses and strong enemies. Also, no word about how Roll can run you over when she's trying to ram that gate? :D Also, yes, the zenny (money) in this game evaporates fairly quickly, which is why once I get the vacuum arm and upgrade it completely, it's the thing I take with me most often until I don't need money anymore. It's great for collecting zenny and health pellets. I love the Legends series. It's a shame we never got a proper third game (second sequel, that is). I never got a chance to play The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, but I understand it's more of a prequel to the Legends games. I would absolutely love for Capcom to release these in a collection for modern consoles. I don't have a PlayStation 3, so I can't buy any of them digitally.
23:42 The game doesn't have tank controls by default. The controls you showed switching to, are tank controls, where left/right turns you instead of moving you. The default controls are free movement and you use the should buttons to turn the camera, its basically like Kingdom Hearts 1 except the camera doesn't automatically move.

It’s so crazy that my introduction to Johnny was his MML SGB playthrough and here we are!
I miss SGB so much... for a moment, when he said he was moving back to Philly, it gave me a faint glimmer of hope that the channel would revive. 🥲
Still my favorite LP of theirs to this day.
I stg I had a Mandela effect with their play through because I thought they had done Legends 2
@@jmoney9173able nah just mml1 they did no mml2 let’s play in sgb
@@DarkEinherjar That just might happen! Who knows?
There is this thing in the Legends game about a "dark megaman", think of it as a karma system and that makes the npcs and even Roll to react to you in different ways. I'm not surprised that John didnt encounter much of it since he did played the game the most standard way for a first run (just like me back in the day). While this "karma" system is not that big of a deal on this game, the 2nd game (Legends 2) has much more attach to it and I do hope Johnny will see this comment at around a time before he starts Legends 2 and maybe starts thinking about it.
in legend 2; you can exploit the dark megaman thing by just kicking the pig on that island with the bird fortress xD
The art style of those games was so unique and expressive. Looking at them now and it all holds up pretty well.
Yeah, I definitely miss this sort of aesthetic in a game. It definitely has it's charm.
Nice to see John moving back home. My mans making big moves out here, and I’m here to fully support!!
Hope everything is okay since he's moving out of his GF's place..
@@mechashadow Oh, they didn’t move together..?
@@mechashadow I thought he lived with his brother Mark.
@@weirdstuffcorp8584 You're not wrong, that was the case before he moved out of state to move in with his GF instead. He is going back there so it might be a return to that status quo lol.
Anyone know why he's moving back?
I feel like a reimaging of this series with a larger open world map, sidequests, an expansive upgrade system and modern controls would be a banger.
20:47
"Who the fuck do you think you are?"
"Cole Phelps. Arson."
And it's that reason I think to this day that MegaMan Legends remains my favorite game of all time
Oh and because I've gotta say it I guess. MegaMan isn't TECHNICALLY a robot in this game as I'm sure Johnny will figure out either in post or by the time he gets to the second game seeing as he called him one during the plots synopsis
Really? I thought 2 firmly established that? Or that he was put into a carbon body to reset himself after spoilers?
Wait 10 years? Ain't no way
I knew about the Teisel VA thing beforehand so seeing you mention him being your favorite before mentioning That Thing had me experience every human emotion in the span of 3 seconds
*Me doing paperwork while this is playing*
Johnny:...I just gotta tune out that Tiesel's English VA was a convicted pedo.
Me: 😨...wait, WHAT!?
Yeah this is the first time I'm hearing of it and YIKES
Well if it’s any consolation, he’s not living anymore
Love the way they love, Data’s little dance, the old man bobbing occasionally when he speaks, the expressiveness
15:57 its only now that im much older do I appreciate this. It's one of those little things you dont think about, but it's really so charming.
Man, I forgot how much I loved this game.
The Mega Man series that everyone is waiting to come back. I remember the days of Legend 3, boy those were the times ever...
I’m sorry of legends what?
Mega man x9 when
@@JakeTylenol MML3 was announced by Inafune pretty much months or weeks before he left Capcom, for the then-upcoming Nintendo 3DS.
There were other projects like an FPS X reboot and an MMO, then the Universe thing with a very ugly design but was supposed to be pretty much what Mario Maker would be, but for Megaman.
All of that was cancelled when he left.
@@shis1988 oh okay I thought Legends 3 was actually released
I don't remember anyone of importance complaining about the over saturation of MegaMan games in the past. I need all the series to come back
I always love it when John finds a new favorite where/when he least suspects it.
Love this series so much, we really need a legacy collection!
Love your pfp. 😉
@@Nesenda thanks! Yours is awesome too 😎
I can't help it.
It's not a lack of literacy there at 15:58 that's making him sound stilted. It's the fact that he's reading ancient lettering, and he doesn't know why he can, as he states in the following cinematic.
It's actually incredibly well directed, and acted by a 14-year-old, really.
As the past week has gone by I can say I needed this right now. Thank you Johnny!
It's crazy to think that, thanks to the visual direction of the Legends games, they achieve the effect of cel-shaded 3D before the tech was really possible. I'm crossing my fingers that a revival of Legends is on Capcom's docket after they get through releasing the Battle Network Legacy Collection.
Hope the moving went smoothly, and that you're doing well John.
I never knew Tiesel's voice actor was like that. I also didn't know he passed away in 2020.
I had a double take when he said that like HOLY SHIT WHAT
@@flarestorm9417 It wasn't a random death.
Seems... well, sadly downright foreseeable. Tragic, imagine they just had locked the child diddler away forever the first time instead of letting him continue for another 12 years.
Funny thing is when this game came out, the voice acting was panned on most of the gaming forums.
@@sup1602None of it is *awful* per se, but Tron's voice evokes Olive Oyl vibes, though her hair may have a hand in that. 😅
"It will be the *Bonnes* will have the last laugh in this game!"
...wait, he's right.
So he just casually spoils the end of the game in that scene?! He's a villain alright ;)
@@VonFirflirch Pfffttt, I suppose so. Truly, the most dastardly thing he does.
20:46 even in the future, the spirit of Cole Phelps lives on
Been here since around 2013, and I'll be here when you hit 1mil. No idea how that hasn't happened yet, easily one of the best gaming channels on the platform
Fun fact: Bon Bonne is voiced by Ikue Ōtani, the same voice actress who plays Pikachu in the Pokemon anime series. Just in case this series wasn't giving enough Pokemon vibes as is, given that the Bonne family, and I mean this in the best way possible, are basically Team Rocket. lol.
“And here we are… about _ten years later.”_
I was _nine_ when I watched that Legends playthrough.
27:30 - Thanks for the shoutout, Johnny!
Great review as always!!
Misadventures will be a treat! I love all 3 of the games, but the parody nature of Misadventures is just comedy gold
The controls are functional. But maybe it's because I've played this game for hundreds of hours so it's like second nature for me.
Still one of my favorite PS1 games. Also one of the first games I bought myself after getting a job as a teenager.
This is why I go into a brief section about the translation quirks in my review of it.
Speaking as someone who had to move recently, my sympathies go out to you. It’s a hassle both emotionally and physically
Carbons did have the cool thing of being apparently able to remove fleshy arms and change them to mechanical apparently without any kind of surgery :D
I like how you actually title your moving boxes with what console they have in them
I struggle to find decent videos about one of my favorite games and series (Legends series), so I'm grateful this exists.
So many good memories with Legends, I remember watching the LP on SGB so long ago, happy to see the video.
nice pfp ;)
@@Nesenda Thanks. Yours is nice too.
I couldn't stop laughing at 20:50 when Voulnut launches only to get rammed by a car twice. Comedy gold!
Here's something cool. 'Purifier units' go out and destroy 'aberrant units'
...
Mega Man is still a maverick hunter
Man, I love this game. I remember beating it on PS2 after losing my PS1 memory card. Kicking you back to the main menu for dying in this game was brutal, but made for a fun challenge. I need to go pick up the other two games, I need more Bonne family shenanigans. Glad to see people still agree it holds up well!
My biggest impossible dream is still a Capcom remake of those games. Not just a collection but a clean full fledged remake in that spiffy RE Engine
This has been a long time coming. I just beat this game last month and now Johnny is doing a review of the best megaman games. LET'S GOOO
A Johnny video always feels like sitting down with a friend who wants to tell you about a game he found.
(Though, I do wonder what it would have been like if the PlayStation launched with the DualAnalog controller all the way back in 1994)
It really is games like Mega Man Legends that remind me why I love the 5th an 6th generation of consoles, with its colorful visuals, involving gameplay, a great cast of characters, and the occasional silly moments.
On the plus side, Robert Norman Smith was also found dead floating in a lake, which is somehow fitting considering his voice work in this.
2:53 Hot take, Megaman and Bass wasn't bad, you all just have no patience :) Wish the SNES got an official translation though, then I won't need to play the game with screen crunch.
16:48 Really didn't need to know this.
Yesss he is finally reviewing one of my favorite games that I have played during the PlayStation era…boy I wish I was a kid again❤😊
This franchise was so beloved that the characters continue to make appearances in other capcom games. Like the servbots head can be seen in Dead Rising, Tron and Volnutt appear as playable fighters in Marvel Vs Capcom series and Vs Tatsunoko (for Wii) respectively
Thanks for the new video, my father just passed, and your someone I watch that puts a smile on my face
6:58 - I hope Ben isolates this for his sound board.
19:57 that put a lovely smile on my face. God bless you Johnny!
The art style, just like the Zero series, is so unique and expressive!
Great video man! This is my favorite Mega Man Series for sure, I played the heck out of this as a teen. One of my all time favorites, I'm glad you liked it!
I cannot believe he didn't mention the porno magazine you can find in the mall. That part always killed me.
Really nice timing with a Legends-like game 'Protodroid Delta' coming out in april, really excited for that tho I haven't played the legends games myself either, only seen playthroughs.
Very happy that you liked it Johnny! this franchise needs more love, i'm really really hoping we get a Legends Collection soon, because it sucks so hard that there's no good way to play it on current hardware right now... also i would love achievements. This has always been my favorite Megaman franchise, back in the ps1 era it really stood up to me with those amazing visuals, and as you said, this is my favorite cast out of any Megaman game, and it's not even close in my eyes.
I genuinely thought Legends was a DS title for the longest time. It looks like one. But to find out it was PS1 title... Man, this game looks good for its time.
