Capcom hasn’t forgotten about mega man The problem is they don’t know what to do next With all the content they released throughout the 90’s and 2000’s They used almost all the ideas to keep fans happy And without inti “the company that made the zero/zx series, battle network series, and mega man 9 and 10” they really can’t do anything without the fans complaining
@@joe_mama__ exactly Namco and capcom haven’t forgotten about mega man and pac man in fact they still use them But instead of making entertainment They mainly use the franchises as mascots and merchandise and crossovers Well better then nothing
@buno7089 Problem for me is that they won't admit this. They keep giving so much false hope instead explaining what they're actually doing to figure out how to use him. I mean... it feels like it should be fairly obvious in some ways with the way technology has advanced. PETS have become a real thing pretty much. Fans have made it abundantly clear we are happy with a follow up to X8. Mega Man 11 showed there was a lot of positive reception for its direction. It could be improved but it's still a great game in the modern era, and it expounded on lore between Light and Wily. Honestly, fans have made it clear even with our wallets that there is an audience. We don't need a huge AAA title. That's the advantage. Mega Man focuses on great gameplay, design, and music along with story elements. It doesn't need to be a huge risk, so why is it so hard to even consider what MIGHT work or involve the fans again like with Legends 3 instead of always chickening out? Again, Rock is not a huge risk. Lower budget, well established with hundreds of games and fans and history. It's very unlikely to completely flop even if they experiment again, and likely to sell if a sequel to the main games.
I'm a younger mega man fan. Being hyped for only 1 new game in the past 14 years of my consciousness in my favorite game series has been really heartbreaking.
@@palpiblade1586 I agree. I’m sort of in a similar situation, I’m pretty sure ZXA came out around when I was born, but Mega Man 11 is the only new Mega Man game I’ve ever really seen. Being a much bigger fan of the X and Zero series, it’s really sad to see them sort of die out. We are 20 years removed from the release of X8. We are around what, 17 since ZXA? What’s even worse, BOTH of them end on cliffhangers.
@@fwWill I got to grow up with them too it's just that I wasn't really old enough to be hyped about them coming out. Those two are easily my favorite in the series though I even speedrun them now.
I was actually alive for the whole entire diaspora beginning with the first Mega Man game. Although, I didn't actually start playing and collecting games in the series until about when Mega Man 3 came out. I'm in my 40's now, and not getting any younger! 😅 It frustrates me to no end that there hasn't been a new Legends or X sequel since the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 days!
I was 15 when X8 came out. I got into MMX heavy via emulation, a former friend in middle school introduced me to X4 which stoked my curiosity. I went back and explored the classic series and got caught up on the lore, but always preferred the X and Zero series. Now at 34, I’m surprised to hear there are Gen Z fans of Mega Man given the drought we’ve suffered over the past two decades
Megaman kinda has the same issue as Metroid where the characters are iconic and popular even amongst non gamers but the actual games they come from are super niche and not that popular
@MILDMONSTER1234 That's not an good comparison. Metroid is pretty big for Nintendo. But it isn't as big to there flagship as Mario, Zelda or Pokemon were. Plus we had Dread & Prime Remastered not long ago and sooner Prime 4. Mega Man is one of Capcom's big hits. But he doesn't nearly get much attention as he use to be.
At least Metroid can sell more than 2m copies. The best selling Mega Man game is still MM11 at 1.9m. You can attribute Metroid's successes to good marketing campaigns as Nintendo actually gives a darn about that franchise again. If Capcom gave Mega Man more marketing, I think the games would do better. The crossovers kinda do help a bit, but having more prominent advertising when a new game is released would definitely help. They won't be mainstream by any means, but I think proper advertising will help a game sell over 2m for a change. They kinda did that with the BN anime series back in the day, but that was WAY more successful in Japan than in the USA.
Yes, that's the biggest problem. And let's face it, the majority of Mega Man games play the same. The first 10 games of the classic series are pretty much the same game.
@@theonewhowrotethis5681 Mega Man games in the NES and SNES era were some of the best selling games of the time. However, all video game sales in the 90s pale in comparison to game sales now where its a billion dollar industry worth more than film, tv, and music combined.
What's sad is that in the modern world of Capcom, megaman is just not profitable, Monster Hunter World sold 27 million copies, and megamans never sold more than 3 million.
@@theblazingpyro5914 Yeah mang that's a you problem cause MH is beyond huge in Japan (and also America these days), and has been huge for nearly a decade now.
Before world the series was pulling similar numbers though from what I’ve heard Edit: after a quick google they averaged around the 2-4 million copies mark
It's not that Mega Man is incapable of selling a lot. It's that he's literally never been given a chance. The last big Mega Man game was Mega Man 11, and it was a barely marketed and very low-budget game. Every other release has been a collection of much older games, or an offline version of a mobile game. _Obviously,_ that's not going sell as much as a huge AAA title.
Being a 2000's Mega Man fan is such a whiplash, you go from multiple releases per year in many genres, going from so much diversity to complete radio silence from MM10 Onwards, like, nothing, only maybe Sm4sh's addition of Mega Man, which was a long time coming, i distinctly remember spending my teens browsing year after year for a new Mega Man game, and when MM11 happened i was so damn happy... and well... we're only four years away from MM11's 10 year anniversary...
capcom seems to have failed mega man since the flop of the first game's sales. mega man 2 wasnt even planned, but came to be through the passion of the dev team. and despite them making mega man 2 out of their free time, they were still being rushed! as a result most of mega man 2's boss weapons seemed unfinished or not tested. mega man 3 was even MORE rushed than last game, being the most unfinished and buggiest game in the classic series! The devs had only about 3 months to develop the game and their team LEADER quit without notice! AND PEOPLE SAY THAT THOSE WERE THE BEST ONES?!
While that is true, that Mega Man 2 and 3 were rushed and buggy and glitchy, the game play feels a lot smoother than the first one, the visuals and music is far better, the bosses were creative... and back in the day, what sold me on Mega Man 3 to actually start collecting the games in the series (instead of just renting them) was 1. the introduction of Rush (Mega Man's dog), and 2. the introduction of the mysterious "Break Man"/Proto Man robot and 3. elements of actual story starting to develop. Mega Man 3 was the first game in the series that I bought when I was still in elementary school.
It helps that Megaman 2 is not as difficult as the first one since it was made for the NES, not arcade systems. And the weapons aren't too buggy, people will usually have no problems with them once they learn how to use them. The only issues I had was the Metal Blade staying in place if you hold up + down or left + right while pressing B, and the Crash Bomb making the game lag. I turned away from Megaman 3 because the sliding is so finnicky and I couldn't beat any of the bosses for the life of me. I think 11 is the best, but I go back to 2 every once in a while.
@@JackoPanterino capcom making big budget games with lotsa gameplay and dlcs: thats easy capcom making a platformer about a funny blue boy fighting bots: IMPOSSIBLE WE NEED A SERIES LEADER!
Mega man zero fan here,I'm still waiting for them to make some sort of 3d remake,it's such a good series and deserves at least an anime and a remake of either 3 or 4 with like DMC 5 graphics
At least something gamewise. It's cool to get all this stuff but a game series with no games is a lifestyle brand and as D&D proved, being a lifestyle brand is a kiss of death
Honestly i gave up on capcom a good while ago, fan made projects are keeping the IP alive imo mostly Mega Maker, MegaMan Arena and the Make a Good MegaMan Level series
I was wondering if someone was going to say this in the comments but I agree. The fans have been providing quality content for years now. I don’t really care if Capcom makes new Mega Man games. I’ve given up on them.
This video overlooks the "political" in-fighting within Capcom between Keiji Inafune and the Capcom board of Directors. Inafune was the PRIMARY reason so many Megaman games got made because he had so much sway in the company and believed in the IP. Inafune gradually was alienating some of the leading members of capcom through these projects and after going all in on a failed (non-megaman) project that cost the company big bucks, he was on thin ice. It was at this moment Inafune used the last of his sway in the company to force start the development of Legends 3, but before the project's development could actually get greenlit by the higher ups he was pushed out and forced to resign. Legends 3 then, wasn't really canceled, but simply never approved to begin with, despite having development time. There is quite a bit of evidence (that I dont have off the top of my head, sorry) to imply that Inafune was so detested by the Capcom board that Megaman has been seeing a lot of neglect BECAUSE of its association to him. (3 Megaman projects were canceled after his resignation) So the real reasons may be more complex than profitability or market underestimation. There may be some ire and other such pressure from above due to interpersonal/social-contract/hierarchy based disruptions during the Inafune years.
Hopefully the Amazon show will do better than that lame charged cartoon. But yeah that explains a lot more, let alone inafune mighty no 9 fail though mighty gunvolt burst was good. There is a book too, so it's not abandoned (games at least preserved outside legends), let alone fans mega man maker.
What you just said is basically proven correct by mm11's director, he explained that the reason it took so long for 11 to release was because the mood still didn't feel right inside Capcom, according to him people were even scared of mentioning Megaman, and now this director left Capcom too, so it would hurt but I wouldnt be surprised if another 5 years passed by and we dont get a new megaman game....
@@jmrmd9272 I never heard of that! it explains so much about why we've had no followup for 11. Came and went with so little support, funny how ego can seemingly override the desire for profit for these bigwigs
He also ignored that zero and zx series didn't sell that well compare to battle network and star force series, bn4 which is one best selling mega man and also sold 1.34 million copies also ruins the reputation of battle network series. Powered up and maverick hunter also sold really poorly.
Sonic had a pretty bad run of 3D games for a while after Sonic Adventure 2. People seem to remember that string of bad games more than the actual 3D transition. Doesn't help that Sonic Adventure was on the failed Dreamcast. If more people had played it at the time they wouldn't be so quick to dismiss how impressive of a 3D transition it was, despite not being perfect
Indeed. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were received well when they came out, especially the 2 Battle rerelease for GameCube, we used to play that all the time in middle school, along with Smash Melee, both were party hits. Sonic’s initial transition to 3D wasn’t a groundbreaker or industry setter like Mario 64, but it wasn’t a failure either.
@@athorem I think people just started saying Sonic Adventure was was bad because Sonic had a bad reputation for a while. For a while, I think SA2 was the only well liked Sonic game. Though, this is just a superficial postulation. I could be wrong.
@@a-buttonace Adventure 2 was pretty flip-floppy in public opinion for quite some time. Colors and Generations were the most loved Sonic games pretty much since release, though nowadays opinion has started to change for Sonic Colors
I think the issue is that Megaman wasn't ever taken quite as seriously either. It's the perfect time to do a 3D Megaman game, and it doesn't have to be Legends 3 now that 3rd Person gameplay is properly understood, but they refuse to do it.
Although there is no official 3D classic megaman game there is a fangame one released a long time ago called Megaman 8-Bit Death Match. The modding community is thriving and there are a lot of mods out there that even outshine what Capcom has put out of the Blue Bomber in the past decade and would highly recommend checking it out.
There are mods for 8-bit deathmatch and unfortunately the communities for some of those mods are trash in terms of overall friendliness. So much to a point where my own friends stopped acquainting themselves with the community and just stopped playing the game altogether. Sure there's the original game but that can only entertain for so long. MegaMan 8-Bit Deathmatch is still a great game though, it is what SRB2, SRB2K and Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers is to the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise (All of these games are made using a modified Doom Legacy engine, crazy). As of publishing this comment the newest addition to the multiplayer scene is proximity voice chat. So there's still activity going on in the 8BDM scene.
Oh, hey Ages, I didn't expect you to respond. I totally agree with some of your points, but not all of the community is bad. *(Except for one, but I'm getting ahead of myself.)* My point is that there are people/creators in the community who are welcoming to newcomers and have real passion to the work they put out. Sidenote: Voice chat isn't even used all that much unless you are trying to play competitively in which case that's a different issue. I would like to talk to you more about it in DMs.
X8 was one of the best side scrollers ever made and mavrek hunter X/powered up was pure gold yet they didn't sell well beleive it or not Mighty number 9 sold more than 3 million copies that is more than any megaman game ever sold I can't blame capcom when they put out good games and people don't buy them if Megaman was owned by nintendo it would have stopped at MM 1 just saying
To be fair to Inafume, the whole Mighty No.9 project was doomed to fail from the start. The 1st red flag was how he and his team created so many unreal stretch goals, and then as they kept getting more and more money on the kickstarter campaign, they kept adding even more goals, as if they had the time and budget to be able to handle everything. The 2nd red flag had been hiring Inti Creates to create the actual game, where don't get me wrong those devs have managed to create some very good games, such as the Mega Man Zero games, or even the Gunvolt series, but when you try playing all of their games, they mostly all play the same, especially when it comes to their platformers, as the only couple of times that they tried to make something new and more unique, such as their Dragon Marked for Death game, the first year that game had come out, it was just an absolute mess on the Nintendo Switch, there wasn't proper character balancing, the game mechanics were very buggy, the multiplayer netcode was horrible, and mind you that these people made this game after Mighty No.9, so they should have been more experienced when making DMFD, yet it took them about 2-3 years to fix Dragon Marked for Death after it had been released, so that is why I say that Concept should have probably hired someone else, in order to make Mighty No.9, since all the ideas and stuff they had were very good, but it had been executed poorly by Inti Creates, and it baffles my mind how a lot of people talk crap about Inafume, as if he had actually been working on the game development for the game, when he basically left it all to Inti Creates, yet nobody even mentions them in their rants about Mighty No.9... The 3rd red flag was how everyone that was working alongside Inafume was on a different page than him, there were so many conflicts of interest when it came to managing everything for Mighty No.9, that its the reason why they had run out of funds, and why when each staff member had been interviewed and stuff, they all said all sorts of things which did not sound reassuring to the backers that had provided the funds, which is why a lot of them even backed out, and got their refunds through calling their banks and stuff, and somehow things had even gotten worse, when there was a lot of drama due to the fact that the person they selected as a community manager, was someone that had a history of being a hardcore feminist, so the backers got even more worried, and Inafume and his staff did very little to reassure people. The 4th red flag was how even though Mighty No.9 had not been completed, Inafume and his company Concept, they created another kickstarter campaign for Red Ash, which would have been a spiritual successor to the Mega Man Legends series, where for most game companies it is completely normal to have multiple projects in the works, as you don't really want to have a situation like having all your eggs in one basket, but the way they handled Red Ash was just nuts, since they had been rumored to be using Mighty No. 9 funds, even if that had not been the case, it just caused unnecessary fear and panic across the backers, which is why even more of them backed out of the Mighty No.9 campaign, and then Concept decided to double down on their mistake, by creating a playable demo of how Red Ash could potentially play like, but then they used assets from Mighty No.9 and stuff, which just further convinced the backers, and then on top of that, there had been an anime short created for Red Ash, which then created talks of a potential anime for the game, and even if it had been another studio that did that as a favor to Inafume which didn't use Mighty No.9 funds, a lot of people still believed that Concept was using the funds. The 5th red flag is closely related to the 4th, where even though Mighty No.9 had not even come out yet, there was already a short created by another studio, where they showcased how a potential Mighty No.9 children's cartoon could have looked like, and online there had been designs for toys and a bunch of merch, which also convinced people that Inafume and Concept were outsourcing these ideas and using their kickstarter funds to do it, when it had been other companies trying to bank in on Inafume's fame, in order to try and make money off of him and Mighty No.9, but as Inafume basically didn't quiet down those rumors and barely even got involved, that just cost him a lot of funds as backers kept backing out by calling their banks and cancelling. The 6th red flag was just the lack of proper communication through the whole project, where they basically did updates whenever they felt like, and then when they ran out of funds they just basically went on a long hiatus, until Deep Silver became the publisher and came with the necessary money to finish development on the game and finally release it, but after such a long development time, and then such a poor product becoming the end result, that just made the backers even more mad, which is why to this day people still talk negatively about Mighty No.9, and I can't really blame them since I also felt ripped off, as the game just felt like it had a lack of polish and that it was incomplete, and initially even the online game modes didn't even exist, even though the stretch goals for reaching the 4M, were the race modes and even online coop ones, and then when those modes were added a couple of months down, they just had horrible netcode and compatibility, which just made people complain even more, and that is how we just got Inafume's famous words "Its better than nothing" and then the man basically became a meme. I am sure that I missed out on some details and stuff, but this is just what I remember about the whole ordeal, and other companies should really learn about it, so that they can use it as a guide on what not to do in order to create a new game series, and its funny that Capcom of all people, even though they had a good opportunity to turn everything over with Mega Man after Mighty No.9, they just didn't do anything and are still not doing anything, where if it wasn't for the fans for creating fan projects and stuff, then the only relevancy towards Mega Man would be that he is basically a crossover character.
Believe it or not, BURN TO THE GROUND! BURN BURN! Megaman is still better than whatever we got the last 13 years, save for MM11, because I haven't really played it to know for sure
The MM fanbase is too divided with how many subseries there are with different kinds of appeal, which is bad if only one version is (scarcely) revived for weird adaptations and such Also Capcom's current brand identity is photorealism which alienates more stylized IPs such as Ace Attorney, Darkstalkers and Mega Man.
Megaman and Castlevania. My favorite franchises ignored by both capcom and konami. Yet somehow konami is doing better than capcom in that regard with co-labs like vampire survivors. Ain't that crazy? I just want new games from both of them.
I just wish we'd have gotten that Zero anime. If it were up to me, make Zero the first anime, then air X as a prequel. That way you hook viewers in and then connect the dots in between X8 and Zero 1.
Capcom abandoned a lot of their IPs. Dino Crisis, Darkstalkers, Megaman, Rival Schools, Breath of Fire, Onimusha...it's a miracle Devil May Cry is still with us considering that franchised died twice. But geez Megaman is as much part of an icon of gaming culture as Mario or Sonic
There's also Viewtiful Joe, Okami, God Hand, Bionic Commando, Star Gladiator, and Strider Hiryu among others. They REALLY should revisit some of their older IPs before too long.
@@theonewhowrotethis5681 Strider did get a new game several years ago, which was a Metroidvania style of game. Though I don't think it got much attention since it was an indie game. While I did enjoy it, I would have preferred a more straight forward action game like the arcade games.
Literal robot antichrist who fights the sinister circumstances of his birth, seeking an answer to why he exists, before sacrificing his life multiple times to save people he's come to care for, becoming ironically the bridge to peace his best friend, the literal robot messiah, couldn't wholly bring about forever. ...Zero's entire life story is a beautiful tragedy worth all the hi-quality anime adaptations of.
LITERALLY WHY I WANT THE Z SERIES TO HAVE AN ANIME,ITS SUCH GOOD PLOT and besides, there were vas for Zero and some of the characters that had their work used for drama tracks, still wish we could get an anime man.
This franchise alone single-handedly shaped my taste in video games and all media: platformer actions, cool looking robots, kickass music, etc. I still play some of the games today. The concept of a world where sentient machines / cyber beings and humans coexist is like a goldmine of storytelling and video game ideas. Too bad that Capcom just doesn't put in as much care as the other franchises. 😢
I think people are missing how Megaman is seen not just by fans, but the wider audience, while we fans enjoy Megaman, the wider audience bounces off because they associate the series with being a difficult series, and not in the sense of Dark Souls, but the rigid gameplay. If the wider audience didn’t view Megaman this way, it’d sell more than its cousins like Monster Hunter and Street Fighter.
That and the fact that it's also seen as a retro series (not all audiences are into this) that Capcom seemingly can't modernize, opting to do re-releases instead.
It’s crazy that you don’t have more recognition. I watched the Spider-Man’s through the years video and immediately subscribed. Can’t wait for the next video!
I will always appreciate these types of mega man videos. Capcom has a gold mine right under them. There is demand for the IP, all it needs is some of that Capcom creativity. It won't be the best seller like RE, but if they really try hard enough and make it a fun game it can do very well.
I wouldn't go as far and say Capcom didn't do anything with Mega Man in recent years. They did do XDive, and for what's its worth, it had a three year tenure that generated millions of dollars. Nevermind the dubious quality of the game. Capcom also released as a standalone offline version that removes the one thing everyone hated, -the awful gacha mechanics- PVP. So in a rare case, they managed to preserve a game that would have otherwise suffered the same fate as Xover and Legend of Network/Phantom of Network. Other than that, nice video! I love how you edited it and its very well put together!! 👍 Hopefully the bigwigs at Capcom get the memo.
@@retronium Personally I’d buy a game that finally connects Zero 4 to ZX. There’s still so many unanswered questions like where the biometals actually came from since the X guardians would’ve been vaporized and what happened to Ciel? A game about the timeframe where Serpent would’ve been good and Ciel would’ve been in action would be so dope and it’d answer so much. Plus since they don’t wanna end Classic or X you’d think they wouldn’t care as much with Zero since it ended.
Blame Capcom's dumbassery & Keiji Inafune's overambition. Those 2 were horrible combinations that caused Mega Man to be less iconic that he used to be back in the past. Maybe we have to wait until Switch 2 which Capcom would finally make something new.
At least when Konami kills an IP they make sure to ignore it for the rest of time instead of dragging it out every now and then to get people's hopes up. Capcom most likely has zero intention of making a new Mega Man anything beyond ports of old games but they always put him front and center on things such as Collabs, Merch and even NFTs.
Actually, Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls was released on the Apple Arcade in 2018. It does continue the original timeline, it brings in several of the classic Castlevania characters from over the years... but it is episodic, it has "gacha" elements making it kind of a money pit, and it is only available on the Apple Arcade meaning that people who use Android, Google, Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, or any other devices can't access it and play it unless they also have an Apple device. Castlevania: Harmony of Despair also released in 2010 however, was released on XBox 360, XBox One, and PlayStation 3. While it didn't have any story, really, it did have several different playable characters, and it actually was pretty challenging and fun once I got used to it... even though it did have extra downloadable content that had to be purchased separately in order to really get the full experience and all character abilities. But yeah, both Capcom and Konami did Inafune and Igarashi dirty.
Well, it does look like Konami is reviving various franchises as they're pushing for Metal Gear (the Delta remake and the recent collections), Silent Hill (2 Remake and the various new titles that they outsourced), and Castlevania (mostly collections, the Netflix shows, and crossovers, but we did get Haunted Castle Revisited). Wished they made more NEW titles, but at least Konami is somewhat trying again as they burned a bunch of bridges back in the day. Capcom really needs to make a new Mega Man game. I really do appreciate the Legacy Collections (and hope that the rest of the titles get collections) since they make classics available on modern platforms, but a new Mega Man game would be nice. Even if it's just a double A title, I'd love to see a new game appear before the end of time.
@Howardpower679 Even with the yearly releases for Sonic, it still can't truly be compared to Mega Man since Capcom released so many games that Mega Man was *actively competing with itself* back in the 2000's. The same can't be said for Sonic. Sega recently released a game that's selling like hotcakes while Mega Man is pretty much collecting dust in the middle of its 2nd hiatus with no word of a new release. I agree that the public should buy more Mega Man nowadays, but let's not pin all the blame on the public and absolve Capcom of any blame here.
They were doing good with Megaman 11. It didnt seem like an expensive game but had the right amount of quality to it that it didnt feel like one of those cheap budget games.
Underrated as heck. Had me looking for a second like-button. Also... I feel hope. Capcom isn't dumb. They KNOW Mega Man is loved by the fans. It's only a matter of time before we get another game from them.
Capcom is on the path of milking Monsters Hunter and Resident Evil which leaves them tons of money (MH beung the most) everything else for them don't matter. They are almost like Sony milking the same franchises all over again.
Mega Man deserves a spot above Mario in the rankings. With his high-tech arsenal and the ability to absorb powers, he's like the Swiss Army knife of the gaming world, while Mario, well, he's just been jumping on mushrooms for decades. It's time for a leaderboard shake-up!
Mega Man having all those abilities is good but it's more complicated for an average person to understand Mega Man. X, Zero, Battle Network and more complicate Mega Man even more. Mario just being power ups and jumping keeps it simple and consistent. There's no confusion about what Mario is.
could be wrong here, but it might have to do with who the market is. supper difficult platformers tend to skew toward us old dudes. I conducted a Reddit pole the other day, and while it's not exactly the same genre, the majority of Metroidvania games are played by 30-50 yr olds. We are not the target.
With how the series has evolved over time, especially with Battle Network and then Star Force (don't think there was a game like them before them, hasn't been that many since), I'd be curious to see what another new next step for the franchise could look like
The thing that lost me with Battle Network was that after BN2, the sequels of BN3 and onward were divided into two separate cartridges to buy *per sequel* - and then at least THREE for Star Force!! It didn't seem to me that the additional cartridges really did anything to improve game quality. Just different color pallets, different bosses, minor differences in abilities, battle chips, and story... To me, the extra cartridges per sequel just seemed like they'd be a waste of money.
@@bardinblue9830 Then you'd only need to purchase one version of each game. The games (barring BN4) were still stellar, so you could just get one version for each #'d entry and play from there. There are also ROM Hacks of some of the games that combine the versions together into a single game. Mega Man Star Force DX comes to mind for that, and there was a mod for BN6 Falzar that added the Gregar bosses.
Megaman had and still has so much potential. I hate seeing it being wasted. My heart goes out to Inafune who also felt pain seeing Megaman being stepped on with dusty shoes over and over again because of Capcom's incompetency in the 2000s and having to face toxic backlash from the fanbase at the time. It's what made him cancel everything and quit back in 2011
Is really sad to see Megaman being forgotten by Capcom because he was (at the time in 80s and 90s [even peoples are very hype seeing him on Smash Bros 4]) soo popular as Mario and Sonic but nowadays not many people knows about him (Besides Street Fight becomes the new Capcom mascot after Street Fighter 2) like where is the new Megaman X or a Megaman game Open World (because Mario, Sonic, Zelda and these franchise have a inovation from 2D to 3D game I still dont know why this didnt work for Megaman [Even Pac-man works his transition to 3D, but why not Megman???])
Aside from controls being stiff mega man legends was a good transition. The problem is is that it sold less than a million units which is fine for the 2D platformers but not for a full 3d game. It also doesn’t help that the inafune the biggest advocate for the series is out of the company leaving it out a leader to push for new games.
Capcom: Its all about Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry & Monster Hunter Baby….but we’re still going to make Mega man Game Collections but not a new game.
Oh Megaman can definitely work in this modern age, capcom just isn't doing anything, i don't know if its out of fear or what but its getting annoying. I can see Metroid other M as a good gameplay template for a new MM X game (Note i said gameplay not story) and for the story, you've got robots with human emotions turning evil because of a virus they can't control, thats a set up for an emotional story yet capcom won't do it CAPCOM PLEASE TRY SOMETHING AT THE VERY LEAST!
Hot take, Other M would actually be a perfect story base for Mega Man. Other M’s controversy stems from the fact that it’s Samus, a stoic bounty hunter character. Mega Man is the complete opposite, a robot that is also very capable of empathy and emotion, even going as far as to try and reason with the enemy. If Mega Man were to have a fear, it’d probably be war, feeling hopeless to fail humanity and have no way to stop it.
Seeing people talk about MegaMan never actually talk about its fanbase. They are so called "friendly fanbase" but when someone said they like the game people hate, they will get shit on. And don't get me started on the Battle Network fans when you say you like Star Force more than Battle Network, you will disappeared the next day. Anyway its nice seeing someone talk about MegaMan.
I feel bad for rocky, because in my eyes, the blue bomber takes the crown secondarily in gaming alongside Mario. The rest I want to just literally flesh down the drain.
5:14 Appreciate you saying that part. As a Mega Man fan since practically the beginning, I've grown so sick of Capcom's excuses and/or silence. Mega Man 11 might not have been the greatest Classic series game of all time, but it was pretty solid, and I'm sure I'm not the only fan out there that would've supported sequels continuing onward in that style. Would I like another 8-bit NES-era style game or a revival of the SNES-style of early Mega Man X era? Sure, I'd dig that too. Would I also love it if Capcom came out with something brand new, like rolling the dice on making a Mega Man or Mega Man X game in the style of something like Metroid Prime? Hell yeah, I would. We are fortunate to have brilliantly made fan-made games like Mega Man Unlimited and other games clearly inspired by the Blue Bomber like Gravity Circuit to fill the void Capcom has created by neglecting all of the incarnations of Mega Man for so many years. Sure, Mega Man games might not sell as well as Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, or Resident Evil, but there's no way Mega Man games cost as much as any of those series do to make.
Heck, on that note, I would have loved to see more of the Mega Man games developed in the SNES Mega Man 7 style. It also irritated me that after Mega Man 8, "Rockman & Forte" (Mega Man & Bass) got released on the Super Famicom with Mega Man 8 style graphics, and it did not get a release over here in the States until it was ported to the Game Boy Advance! It also irritated me that we didn't get Mega Man Battle & Chase here in the States because SONY felt there were too many racing games on the PlayStation already. I would have bought it back then!!!! But I am glad that a version of Battle & Chase, though incomplete, did get a release on the PlayStation 2 with the Mega Man X Collection.
@@bardinblue9830 Yeah...agreed with you on the Mega Man 7 art style. I don't get why they abandoned that so quickly. I didn't even know there was a Mega Man-themed kart racer! I did get a copy of Mega Man Soccer once upon a time, though, which is funny because I don't follow soccer at all, and I thought it was more fun than what I expected it to be. I imagine it didn't sell as well as whatever Capcom wanted at the time because if it did, they probably would've gone on to make Mega Man-themed sports games of all varieties. (Somewhere, there's an amazing parallel universe where we got to play a Mega Man version of NBA Jam...)
If MegaMan RPG and Deathmatch are anything to go by, we need to revive this franchise ourselves! Otherwise, they might just toss our blue bomber in the scrap heap along with Roll and ProtoMan.
As a young mega man fan myself , im grateful for whatever we get. As much that it hurts me seeing how he's being treated im still here to support him no matter what.
Ghosts n' Goblins is a great example from capcom about how to make a new installment in a dormant franchise. The budget was definitely low, but the team worked within those limitations to give it a unique style, and it became profitable. Mega Man could also work with this business model.
4:43 I've always found it impressive how little people cared about the Legends subseries honestly, and it also confuses me when people lament 3's cancelation from a series-wide standpoint, like, that game wouldn't changed anything at all if it released.
@@codes5_real Oh no I like the series, I simply find weird the blind praise a nothingburger 3D subseries gets, especially from people who immediately go "franchise hater >:(" when it gets talked in a negatively light even slighty.
Legends 3 needed to release. It was the true bridge to a defined series and 3D. They refined the controls, but maintained the style. Until it releases, he'll be stuck in purgatory.
Captain Commando was their official mascot back in the day, but Mega Man took over as their unofficial one after a while (kinda stopped around 2011 though). Now these days, they cycle through them depending on the situation. Ryu does get a lot of love, but Mega Man does appear a bit more on various promotional arts. Chun-Li and Mega Man actually appeared more on Capcom's Japanese recruitment website than Ryu, for example. As for actual games, yeah, Mega Man gets left in the dust besides collections of old titles.
They completely failed Mega Man 13 years ago with Legends 3. The fools, it really could have gone so well, but they just pulled the plug on it instead.
The Legends games were awesome. We have no idea how 3 would've sold because they canceled it. They said they'd make the game based on how well the beta demo would've sold, had millions of fans involved in the fan-works for it, and then canceled the beta demo so no one even got to contribute to whether or not the final thing would even come out. It's less that the game wouldn't have sold and more that Capcom just randomly stopped it out of nowhere leaving fans with a slap in the face.
There were also some external factors that led to the demo not being released. Originally the Legends 3 demo was supposed to be released alongside the launch of the 3DS eshop but the launch was delayed because of the 3DS's lackluster sales apparently, meaning the demo couldn’t be released on schedule. Keep in mind that if all that hadn’t happened the Mega Man Legends 3 demo would’ve been the ONLY purchasable game on the eshop for a good while, It would most likely have sold pretty well as there wouldn’t have been much else to buy yet. But I guess we'll never know now.
At this point they could make literally anything, hell, Capcom just grab Mega Man and Bass, or even better, X and Zero and put them in an Armored Core-like environment with fast pace gameplay and the fan base would go bananas. Reinvent, reimagine, just make something that doesn't take 10 years to release.
You're 100% on the money with this video but while you're right the multiple different megaman series' confused the market, i really dont want to see them forgotten in favor of JUST classic megaman bc the other megaman series' are really great too and deserve just as much love and as an X fan, i don't want to be alienated. @@buno7089inti didn't make battle network series

The problem with Capcom often doesn’t pay enough attention not just Mega Man, but Dark Stalkers too.

It's not that Mega Man is incapable of selling a lot. It's that he's literally never been given a chance. The last big Mega Man game was Mega Man 11, and it was a barely marketed and very low-budget game. Every other release has been a collection of much older games, or an offline version of a mobile game.
_Obviously,_ that's not going sell as much as a huge AAA title.

capcom seems to have failed mega man since the flop of the first game's sales.
mega man 2 wasnt even planned, but came to be through the passion of the dev team.
and despite them making mega man 2 out of their free time, they were still being rushed!
as a result most of mega man 2's boss weapons seemed unfinished or not tested.
mega man 3 was even MORE rushed than last game, being the most unfinished and buggiest game in the classic series! The devs had only about 3 months to develop the game and their team LEADER quit without notice!
AND PEOPLE SAY THAT THOSE WERE THE BEST ONES?!
Got by on duct tape and dreams, huh?
That’s crazy, I loved 1, 2 & 3. Those devs must’ve been something else
MM7 was also made in 3 months. Imagine the potential of MM1 to 11 had an extra 3 months of effort put into each of them.

Doing nothing is a viable choice. In "modern" gaming, its a good thing
The only reason Capcom made Mega Man 11 was to beat MN9 to the punch because it got popular. That’s it.
Capcom was also despite in 2017, so they needed a low budget action game. MM 11 fit the bill.

I was wondering if someone was going to say this in the comments but I agree. The fans have been providing quality content for years now. I don’t really care if Capcom makes new Mega Man games. I’ve given up on them.
I have used Mega Man Maker to make several Metroidvanias, as well as traditional stages, even a whole game crammed into a single stage.
(3 Megaman projects were canceled after his resignation)
So the real reasons may be more complex than profitability or market underestimation.
What you just said is basically proven correct by mm11's director, he explained that the reason it took so long for 11 to release was because the mood still didn't feel right inside Capcom, according to him people were even scared of mentioning Megaman, and now this director left Capcom too, so it would hurt but I wouldnt be surprised if another 5 years passed by and we dont get a new megaman game....
mighty no9 did even more damage to the legacy
@@jmrmd9272 I never heard of that! it explains so much about why we've had no followup for 11. Came and went with so little support, funny how ego can seemingly override the desire for profit for these bigwigs

This is probably the only video where I hear Sonic transitioned into 3D well over some other character. 🤯
Coincidentally, I saw a video yesterday that said the same. Wondering if Sonic being more mainstream has influenced that decision.
@@a-buttonace
Adventure 2 was pretty flip-floppy in public opinion for quite some time.

@@NetBattler tags??
The MM fanbase is too divided with how many subseries there are with different kinds of appeal, which is bad if only one version is (scarcely) revived for weird adaptations and such
Also Capcom's current brand identity is photorealism which alienates more stylized IPs such as Ace Attorney, Darkstalkers and Mega Man.
Photorealism can work for Megaman.

@@theonewhowrotethis5681 Strider did get a new game several years ago, which was a Metroidvania style of game. Though I don't think it got much attention since it was an indie game. While I did enjoy it, I would have preferred a more straight forward action game like the arcade games.
Onimusha and Okami you say?
Thank you for the free gamer supps!
Got into Megaman from the Protomen albums. It hurts to see something that was obviously loved by fans get ignored.
That thumbnail is f**king awesome (entire video is peak aswell)
Zero is the coolest character in any media, ever.
You can’t change my mind.
this is one of the reason why we don't get another sequel games.
@ what?
Literal robot antichrist who fights the sinister circumstances of his birth, seeking an answer to why he exists, before sacrificing his life multiple times to save people he's come to care for, becoming ironically the bridge to peace his best friend, the literal robot messiah, couldn't wholly bring about forever.
...Zero's entire life story is a beautiful tragedy worth all the hi-quality anime adaptations of.
It's so cool that it explodes every 3 or 4 games
But I personally prefer X
LITERALLY WHY I WANT THE Z SERIES TO HAVE AN ANIME,ITS SUCH GOOD PLOT
and besides, there were vas for Zero and some of the characters that had their work used for drama tracks, still wish we could get an anime man.
I remember playing MegaMan games all day in my cousin PC that where pirated in a floppy disk... Good times
Amen man
Apparently- key word being *APPARENTLY*- Capcom is working on a new Mega Man title, they're just trying to figure out how to approach it
This franchise alone single-handedly shaped my taste in video games and all media: platformer actions, cool looking robots, kickass music, etc.
Appreciate you bro!
I will always appreciate these types of mega man videos. Capcom has a gold mine right under them. There is demand for the IP, all it needs is some of that Capcom creativity. It won't be the best seller like RE, but if they really try hard enough and make it a fun game it can do very well.
0:30 WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87
Was that the least funny joke ever?
Bro really got everyone laughing 😐
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MICEAL DONT DO IT 😭😭😭😭
Currently watching this video while wearing my battle network blanket 😂
If Capcom makes a MMZ Remake like 3d with DMC 5 graphics and controls I'd play that in a heartbeat.
Unfortunately, they probably won't get the memo.

Personally I’d buy a game that finally connects Zero 4 to ZX.
MegaMan really was the Dark Soul of "tHe nIntEnDos" games.
LOL fr
Megaman aint that hard if being was the joke you made there
Honestly Dark Souls is the Mega Man of 3d action rpgs if anything
Ghoul's n Ghosts sitting in the corner knowing he it's the real Dark Souls of the 80s
The megaman 1 is the dark souls of original megaman game
- the stage design is quite frustrating specially gutsman and iceman
- no e tanks
Crazy how the reception of Megaman in Smash didnt make Capcom realize that Megaman is still very much beloved and remembered.
@@bardinblue9830 You know what now that you mention it, maybe Konami is doing a better job than Capcom with their legacy franchises
The public failed megaman
Cause capcom made more than 100 games but they always sold like dog shit
It could be a combination of both Capcom and the public.
@gunvolt5246 definitely the public bro...
Sonic had yearly release games
In multiples platforms too just like megaman and they sold well enough
This video is so great! The editing, script, animations, it’s so well made! I look forward to watching more of your channel👍

Never make nostalgia your identity. Worst mistake of my life
Underrated as heck. Had me looking for a second like-button. Also... I feel hope. Capcom isn't dumb. They KNOW Mega Man is loved by the fans. It's only a matter of time before we get another game from them.
We NEED a new 3d mega man game! Make it a 3d run and gun with some platforming elements and that would be perfect!
YES! We need it
@JackoPanterino sadly X7 made fans refuse to want that.
I love you so much megaman
I hate you so much Capcom
Capcom is on the path of milking Monsters Hunter and Resident Evil which leaves them tons of money (MH beung the most) everything else for them don't matter. They are almost like Sony milking the same franchises all over again.

Mega Man deserves a spot above Mario in the rankings. With his high-tech arsenal and the ability to absorb powers, he's like the Swiss Army knife of the gaming world, while Mario, well, he's just been jumping on mushrooms for decades. It's time for a leaderboard shake-up!
Such a overshadowed character 😓
I mean… with how many Mario games with different genres there are, I’d say Mario is pretty versatile too.
Deserves more love; why are you throwing Mario under the bus.
Mega Man having all those abilities is good but it's more complicated for an average person to understand Mega Man. X, Zero, Battle Network and more complicate Mega Man even more.
Mario just being power ups and jumping keeps it simple and consistent. There's no confusion about what Mario is.
What about Kirby he absorbs powers too.
Things I want capcom make:
Mega man 12 and x9
But megaman 11 already exists
capcom is soulless now
it rlly sucks because theres so many good ideas and characters to capitalize on [like more robot master merch] and they just... don't??
could be wrong here, but it might have to do with who the market is. supper difficult platformers tend to skew toward us old dudes. I conducted a Reddit pole the other day, and while it's not exactly the same genre, the majority of Metroidvania games are played by 30-50 yr olds. We are not the target.
This deserves way more views than it has
With how the series has evolved over time, especially with Battle Network and then Star Force (don't think there was a game like them before them, hasn't been that many since), I'd be curious to see what another new next step for the franchise could look like
The thing that lost me with Battle Network was that after BN2, the sequels of BN3 and onward were divided into two separate cartridges to buy *per sequel* - and then at least THREE for Star Force!!
Ngl, as a Monster Hunter fan it feels sad that knowing CAPCOM is treating Megaman like how Ubisoft treated Rayman.
It's what made him cancel everything and quit back in 2011
R.i.p. megaman. You'll be missed but not forgotten because you are a legend.
No way my fav smash ultimate caracter failed so hard💀
4TH ! Also, megaman definetely deserves more attention, he was the OG game character😔
Amen man he’s been overshadowed 😥

@@RockMQ I recommend Abyss X Zero as successor to MM Legends.
Megaman never successfully made the jump to 3d. The original formula is great but the series never had a gba or ds Renaissance like castlevania did.
I can see Metroid other M as a good gameplay template for a new MM X game (Note i said gameplay not story) and for the story, you've got robots with human emotions turning evil because of a virus they can't control, thats a set up for an emotional story yet capcom won't do it
CAPCOM PLEASE TRY SOMETHING AT THE VERY LEAST!
hear me out, mega man zero series but in 3d/open world.

It still upsets me that mega man gets little respect
Megaman has potencial as a soul-like game. The first ones were hard, unforgiving and fun.
It still shocks me that if you look at the top selling Capcom games of all time, Mega Man isn't even in the top 50 games anymore.
I grew up on MegaMan with the MegaMan anniversary collection for the Nintendo GameCube
R.I.P. Mega Man
1987-2018
plot twist, all of these collabs are funding for the most insane megaman game ever made
Seeing people talk about MegaMan never actually talk about its fanbase. They are so called "friendly fanbase" but when someone said they like the game people hate, they will get shit on. And don't get me started on the Battle Network fans when you say you like Star Force more than Battle Network, you will disappeared the next day.
Anyway its nice seeing someone talk about MegaMan.
I like both series but yeah people are just one sided
@@mysterwhymedia agree
If MegaMan RPG and Deathmatch are anything to go by, we need to revive this franchise ourselves!
Otherwise, they might just toss our blue bomber in the scrap heap along with Roll and ProtoMan.
Megaman's classic games are timeless. That doesn't mean they shouldn't make more though. Capcom really did fail him
As a young mega man fan myself , im grateful for whatever we get. As much that it hurts me seeing how he's being treated im still here to support him no matter what.
X and Battle Network were attempts at modernizing Mega Man. Both were good. Star Force I consider a true spin off
I mourn him every day
as a 2000s kid to me megaman was a virtual assistant that fight IA's in the virtual world of megman battle network lol!
Agreed , megaman deserved better 😢
Ghosts n' Goblins is a great example from capcom about how to make a new installment in a dormant franchise. The budget was definitely low, but the team worked within those limitations to give it a unique style, and it became profitable. Mega Man could also work with this business model.
4:43 I've always found it impressive how little people cared about the Legends subseries honestly, and it also confuses me when people lament 3's cancelation from a series-wide standpoint, like, that game wouldn't changed anything at all if it released.

Legends 3 needed to release. It was the true bridge to a defined series and 3D. They refined the controls, but maintained the style. Until it releases, he'll be stuck in purgatory.
Back when Megaman was their mascot. Now Ryu is their mascot because Street Fighter II
Still my favorite series unfortunately capcom does not have same faith
I think a semi open megaman game with combat kinda like armored core 6 or the cybertron games.
They completely failed Mega Man 13 years ago with Legends 3. The fools, it really could have gone so well, but they just pulled the plug on it instead.
Im just excited to see the mega man episode in Secret Level. Hopefully it pushes them to make more megaman games
Not making megaman maker was the stupidest decision ever
