  • Where are the places you have not been and should go?
Who are the people you know that are the most vulnerable and need your help? In her talk, Xiomara Torres explores the idea of advocacy unlocking potential and possibility. She is living proof of this with her incredible life journey.
With special thanks to core the TEDxPortland organizing team, 70+ volunteers and cherished partners - without you this experience would not be possible. Our event history can be found TEDxPortland.com
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
Xiomara Torres crossed the Tijuana River at age 8 for the chance at a better life. Speaking no English, she settled in California and spent time in the foster care system until she aged out at 18. Today she’s gone from undocumented immigrant to recently-elected Multnomah County Judge. She’s spent her career fighting for Oregon’s most vulnerable children and brings her talent and heart forward every day to make life better for our community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

It is truly important to be an advocate to others, I would also consider self-advocacy as well. Sometime, we won't have someone there for us so we have to be mindful of what we tell ourselves, because we WILL believe what we say. I am an advocate for mental wellness. :)
