Toy Story was one of my biggest inspirations to be a creator and I remember after hearing the news, I felt empty, like my aspirations of being a creator was a waste of my life. I can separate the artist from the art in the sense that, when I was 7, I didn't know who John Lasseter was, the movie inspired me and I hope to take what I learn from all this and be better. I have every sympathy for the women affected and I hope the working place at Pixar will be a healthier one from now one.

Ryan Robotham John Lasseter isn't some dirty player. He's a nice nice and friendly person which is why he hugs his co workers. I'm pretty sure he gives males long hugs too. It's really the fault of the women who didn't tell him that so he would know.

Unfortunately, unlike Louis C.K., where I saw his admission as a sign that the women coming forward would get some justice and he might get some psychological help, I don't think this will happen with John Lassiter. He has enough money that he can pay off the best lawyers he wants. Other than losing his job, I think he's gonna get out scot-free.

You know something? I just realized something about Cars 2. Not only was it directed by John Lasseter. He has made it no secret that the Cars franchise is the closest to his heart of all the Pixar movies, including the Toy Story series.
Remember how Mater was the main character? Remember how Mater was acting so annoying and inappropriately, and everyone was annoyed with him, including Lightning? And remember how in the end, Lightning feels guilty for telling Mater off, and says "You're fine the way you are! If anyone has a problem with you, THEY need to change! Not YOU!" Basically, the moral of Cars 2 is "be yourself. Be your stupid, obnoxious self. You don't have to act mature! You don't have to worry about how you're coming across! If anyone is put off by your behavior, f*ck em!"
I wonder if this was John Lasseter secretly defending his inappropriate behavior at Pixar, and telling his employees he wronged "This is who I am! Deal with it!"

I am really legit heart broken of how people like Lasseter would be accused of something like this.
The man helped animation being able to be a strong genre as it is. He made a lot of mistakes, I get that but the passion he puts in his projects to improve is astonishing so much, I respect him.
The fact he hugged Byron Howard on pitching to create Zootopia/Zootropolis as accepting the project, I cried with legit joy. He does not deserve this at all and bless him along with the people working in the Disney and Pixar animated studios who worked their asses off to produce consistant quality content.
I hope to inspire future generations like how they inspired him because of Lasseter. Bless him all the way.

And he was a chronic smoker, drinker, didn't pay his animators properly which lead to them striking(to be fair, it was the Great Depression, everyone was facing money problems), and was overall an unpleasant man. He admitted publicly that he always put on a nice looking facade for the marketing gimmicks, and Disney was all right to actually remember and portray him as he truly was, not just what he showed on TV.
Hopefully if Pixar decides to make a biopic about John Lasseter, they treat him with the same respect and show his flaws as well.

It's not just actors, comedians, and producers doing this either. This extends into the voiceover industry too and there are a handful of cases where the voice actor (or actress) was fired due to misconduct.
I don't think they'll fire Lasseter (considering they've dealt with other serious controversies) but I also think that sexual harassment needs to be taken more seriously in the industry...PERIOD.

Isabelle Seeley IMO, this year has been slighty better than 2016. To understand why I feel this way, you need to remember that 2016 wasn't terrible just because of Trump; his victory was merely the final nail in the coffin for many people, and there were many events that led up to it. For a few examples, there was the overabundance of celebrity deaths, several fatal incidents of police brutality, a few mass shootings, the whole Ghostbusters fiasco, and Florida and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week.* 2017, in contrast, has had a little less badness in it altogether, and the few bad moments I can name off the top of my head are mostly recurring things, like all these sexual harassment scandals, that awful hurricane season, and basically Trump's every move. Given all that, I think it's easier for you to understand my opening statement now
*This nickname is the one I gave to when Florida experienced the murder of Christina Grimmie, a toddler getting eaten to death by an alligator at a Disney World hotel (by the way, why do their hotels even *have* alligators to begin with?), and the deadliest US tragedy since 9/11, *all in the same week*

It's just heartbreaking.. to have to lose the genius that's responsible for such a massive part of what still felt authentic and pure about the company... Disney wouldn't let him go because of the legal ties they hold together alone, I assume at least. I definitely don't think they'd let him go or fire him, but I don't think that he's going to "come back to work" per say.

  • @mr.x2567

Disney doesn’t actually care for their female employees, they care more about money. By not firing Lasseter, they threw the women that worked for them under the bus! Lasseter is the thing that made them so powerful in the first place, and they wouldn’t even fire Lasseter even when Marvel and Lucasfilm can easily cover Disney. Disney doesn’t need Lasseter anymore, but they are too greedy to let him go. Don’t let that 6 month break fool you, even after sexually assaulting women several times, At the end of the day, John was given a pass despite his inappropriate behavior. Disney is also the same company known for pretending to be empowering women to avoid suspicion and of course, to make money! Everyone who is responsible for all this happening deserves a punch in the face from karma! But all John got was a paid six month vacation. Ah, the magic of Disney!

Speaking of Pixar, I always disliked the fact that they are the only 1980s 3D animation studio that gets talked about. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if most kids think that Ed Catmul, University of Utah, and the people that went on to create Pixar were the sole inventors of CGI. There are so many more studios, companies, and organisations involved in early CGI like, Triple I, Bell Labs, Robert Abel & Associates, NYIT, Magi Sythavision, Symbolics Graphics Division, PDI, and Omnibus, just to name a few.
P.S. Sorry if there are any typos because TH-cam is doing some weird thing on my computer where it is just showing one line of text a a time.

I know I’m playing devil’s advocate here, but I’m just trying to present another perspective. I’m not defending his actions, I’m just saying that maybe he just needs to be taught better. Perhaps he has Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome. People with Asperger’s especially have trouble understanding boundaries and social cues and often need to be taught them. I know, I have it myself. It makes sense that Pixar is a boy's club, just look at their movies. All their best movies have male leads and female supporting characters. They do have some male-led stinkers (Good Dinosaur, the Cars movies). On the other hand their female-focussed movies stink. In both Inside Out and Brave, the actions of the female leads (Merida and Joy) turn them into villain protagonists.
Merida willingly takes a witch magic cake to poison her mom so she can control her own fate, and the rest of the movie is Merida correcting her stupid choice. She gets her way ultimately without having to compromise and her mom is the one who has to change.
Joy's controlling and selfish actions create the conflict and she has to make up for neglecting and downplaying the role Sadness plays in Riley's life.
Dory's short-term memory less gets her into no end of problems and she needs others to help her get home, most of her movie is others shipping her to where the plot needs her to go.
It's like Pixar is trying to tell us that women create the conflict in their lives and the drive of their story is to fix that mistake.
In the male-driven leads, outside forces create the conflict and the protagonists react to it (Woody feels threatened by Buzz when he shows up, Flik has to deal with the Grasshoppers showing up, Woody has to deal with getting given away, Sully and Mike have to deal with corporate corruption and Boo getting into their world by mistake, Marlin has to deal with Nemo getting kidnapped, Mr. Incredible has to deal with Syndrome, Remy has to overcome the kitchen environment excluding him for being a Rat, WALL-E has to face the harshness of space, Carl has to deal with his childhood hero being a crazed maniac, Mike and Sully have to deal with the difficulties of University, Arlo has to find his way home, and Lightning has to accept he's not the best anymore.
Hopefully Pixar will get the hang of writing female leads without making them the instruments of their own conflicts.

IDK, I remember watching Finding Dory and I feel that Dory ultimately was at the center of her own story, and didn't completely rely on those around her. She gradually remembered missing gaps from her life due to her own determination. As for Monsters University, Sulley didn't really have to overcome anything, but Mike had to come to terms with the fact that he will never be a good scarer. But I do see what u mean overall, that the male leads in Pixar films do overcome their problems due to outside circumstances

@@musiclover_kb4913 Dory's memories were never under her own control, they came back whenever the plot needed to move forward.
I would argue Sully had to overcome his own insecurities, not ones he himself caused, but a result of the Sullivan family he was born into. The weight of expectation, it's made blatantly clear in the scene where Mike blows up at him for being "born a Sullivan" - and of course Sully didn't think he could scare adult Humans until Mike encouraged and worked with him. Ultimately they both have to work their way up to the Scare floor in the movie's epilogue, so Sully definitely did struggle.
But yeah, alot of the time I feel Pixar handles its male leads better, gives them struggles they have more agency to fix, or just they aren't struggles mostly of their own making. Dory doesn't have much agency and Merida causes most of her own problems.
Then they turned Bo Peep into a Girl Boss when that was never her character.
And Cruz's struggle makes no sense. She is literally the same model as Lightning McQueen but apparently had to deal with people saying she'd never make it. Nevermind she's able to beat Jackson Storm, a Next-Gen Racer while making it look EASY.

@@PlanetZoidstar I meant that her memories were not being spoonfed to her by another character. Also Dory was a child when she got separated from her parents and I don't think that was meant to send a message that BECAUSE she's a female character, she caused her own problems. Any child who has a high level of curiosity and is kind of all over the place would find her relatable. She never gave up and her determination led to her finding her parents. That's why I vouch for Dory cause it wasn't like Marlin, Nemo or any other male characters did all the work and were praised for finding her parents

To future animators of the industry... We have a lot against us. John Lasseter was only the beginning. The pandemic has brought the film industry to it's knees, delaying several films, it's hard to get a job as animator-hell, it's hard to get a job at ALL! To those of you who looked to Lasseter as an idol, I severely hope this doesn't stop you from wishing to show your ideas and franchises with the world. I hope that all of the crap that happened doesn't kill your passion, and I hope that you still hope.
The world will shove you to the ground, but just keep getting back up, and keep going. *Stay strong, artists.*

I'm not sure what I should think about it. On one hand, I really love Pixar and thanks to John Lasseter we all have this really great movies, but on the other hand he did some really terrible things. I really think their should be some consequences.

If there's anything I'm taking away from the sexual harassment controversies in Hollywood is to cautious with your actions when it comes to women. Like many people, I'm upset that Lasseter has done this and hopes he gets better.
