      I haven’t had my hands on a Sirui but they’re only a 1.3x squeeze factor. Not exactly comparable to the Vazen but I’ve seen some impressive stuff from it!

    Was searching for some clips to get more infos on the z cam system the ENTIRE day. Just one hour ago I found your channel. Thank You!!!! ...for showing your gear and your process but most importantly- thank you for inspiring me. Love your approach and your work so much. Even though clients do not understand the direct difference between sphericals and anamorphics... I do believe that it matters in a subconscious level.. For example you might have a client who's hiring you for a couple videos, but then for some reason he decides to hire some other person to film something. That's when i believe the client realizes ''oh...Heyden's video looked alot better, and i'm not sure why'' ..thats where the difference comes... But then again.. 3k dollars is alot

    • @dna8269
      @dna8269 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you. I think it matters, but yeah at the same time it's difficult to justify that much money if you look at the averages over time. In other words, on average, its probably not going to make you more money. It may here and there or with very specific pieces to certain crowds, but if this is a full time job you're probably going to get a better return putting that 3k elsewhere. Tough decision because I love anamorphic too but people just don't really appreciate it on average.
      I actually even had a client say "that video is great except for those blue light glares." A part of me died inside, lol.

    I really wish there were some cheaper anamorphics available for EF mount. The Vazen and Sirui look nice but all my cameras and my other lenses are EF mount. Even though I could change the mount on my E2-S6 it would be a lot of switching back and forth to use my other lenses, plus I'd no longer be able to use the eND. Maybe I'll pick up an M4 as a b-cam just for anamorphic use!

    • @HaydenGoldsworthy
      @HaydenGoldsworthy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would just get the MFT mount for your S6 dude! I doubt you'd be switching from anamorphic to aspherical on the same shoot. You'd most likely plan to use just your anamorphic in which case you can quickly swap the mounts :) Save some money and get a better image out of the s6! I picked up a cheap woodencamera rubber hood that allows drop-in filters for ND.

  • @airindiana
    @airindiana 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you handle in post the slight vignette on the S6? Do you just crop in? I got it but know it won’t be appreciated by the untrained eye. Pleases me so it’s a waste of money in that sense and it’s already hurt my back 😄 🤦‍♂️ . Basically it’s an extravagance but man is it nice. Going to spherical seems dull now.

    • @HaydenGoldsworthy
      @HaydenGoldsworthy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hahah man I definitely understand what you're saying. In terms of the vignette, I just cropped in post until I got to a spot I was happy with. I also noticed it wasn't really noticeable in extremely well lit scenes at T/2. The vignette actually doesn't bother me much because a lot of my favorite films that inspired me to go anamorphic have vignetting as well (Like, Skrillex's music video "Show Me Love"). Going back to Spherical lenses definitely sucks after having this haha.

    • @HaydenGoldsworthy
      @HaydenGoldsworthy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course! But you have to have a client who recognizes the benefits first. It’s not always realistic to do that.

      @@HaydenGoldsworthy I see you have an A7S III, shoot with that and make your life a billion times easier! I think your work is fantastic Hayden, but a zcam/vazen anamorphic setup requires a ton of work in post. Also, to get the most out of it, I feel like you need at least an AC.
      Don't be afraid to charge for it. If it's outside of their budget, then anamorphic is not for your client. Go A7S III, they wouldn't even care or notice the difference like you said and It'll still produce fantastic footage for a one man operation.

    • @ApexMediaFirm

      We agree! Don't sell, one day it's gonna be hard to get your hands on a Vazen 40mm and you're going to regret it. We have the Vazens and they produce a great picture. It's a very special lens in our inventory.

      Phu Nguyen I enjoy the a7s for specific jobs, especially as a B-cam to pair with the z cam. It’s an impressive camera and actually makes me money unlike the Vazen. • @OskarRosetti

    One advice from a DP to another: anamorphic is just a trend, and like all trends, it will eventually be outmoded. Making a good image is not having a very short depth of field, you should learn how to make great and impressive images with shitty photo lenses instead of just relying on the bokeh this lens gives you. I mean, your work is cute but its only particularity is that you shot with this lens...

    • @jessecook3593
      @jessecook3593 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anamorphic is a trend???? Have you watched any movies in the past fifty years? I guess, consumer-wise, it might seem trend-y now, but this is literally the first time the camera retail industry has democratized these style of lenses to a consumer base ever. Before Sirui, Vazen, and the heftier priced Atlas Orions, the cheapest anamorphic you could probably find for purchase were $25,000+ each. So naturally, there will be an influx of anamorphic usage now that indie filmmakers and small business videographers now have access to buying a kit of these lenses for a good price. You couldn't be more wrong about it being a trend; it's been around in film and tv for generations.

    • @OskarRosetti
      @OskarRosetti 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jessecook3593 I work in the film industry; anamorphic was at first a way to expand the image on the sides but it remains clumsy because of optical deformations and chromatic aberrations. DOPs's interest in anamorphic revived in around 2012 with old lenses like Lomo or vintage Cooke lenses. Since 2015, all I hear from fellow DOPs is "Let's shoot this gig in anamorphic if we can afford it". It's not because new brands released cheap anamorphic lenses lately that the trend wasn't there beforehand. And if it's not a trend, why did you buy yours? Were you genuinely interested, by yourself, by the anamorphic look, or did you just watch youtube videos about how cool and vintage it all looks?

    • @jessecook3593
      @jessecook3593 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@OskarRosetti Your explanation as to why anamorphic is a “let’s shoot it this way if we have the money” is yet another gratuitously inaccurate statement. I’ve worked in visual effects in my 20s and switched to camera dept in my 30s for better pay. This is not a trend since 2012. Scorsese has been shooting anamorphic off and on since the 1990s, and Halloween, Blade Runner, The Graduate along with many other films since the 60s have shot anamorphic. You’re missing my point entirely; which is the common film worker can now have access to shooting anamorphic, so you will naturally have an influx of its usage. But it is by no means a trend exclusive to the 2010s; again, a grossly inaccurate statement. If you work on Hollywood productions, obviously we’re lucky to not have to worry much about budget because everything is backed by the studio, but it’s still a very specific creative choice our DP makes. I have not bought anamorphic lenses (yet) because I haven’t had to. A trend is low-rise jeans in the 2000s. A visual look for feature films that has been around in large sample size since the 60s is not. So don’t call people wanting to buy these budget friendly lens options as “falling for a trend” because this is the first time you can feasibly shoot in anamorphic without having Warner Bros and Paramount to back your film. It only, at most, seems trendy because of this influx since it is now democratized and affordable. But the visual aesthetic of anamorphic has lasted nearly half the life of motion film capture in general, well beyond the runtime for whatever a “trend” is deemed to be.

    • @OskarRosetti
      @OskarRosetti 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jessecook3593 I was talking about the anamorphic lenses use with digital cameras, anamorphic is a process that isn't legitimate with an Alexa for instance. I don't think you work everyday with industry professionnals, you don't seem to see many DOPs and you'd see what I'm talking about if you did instead of being this butthurt little youtube videographer

      @@OskarRosetti You've successfully gone for the trifecta of being incorrect on all fronts; quite the feat. I'm not a videographer - I've worked largely in VFX/post - though I think you're on quite the high horse for being dismissive of someone/anyone being a videographer, as if that is not a good enough job to have.
