Some folks correctly pointed out I had locked the corners of the video, compromising the lens breathing comparison. You're right! Here's the proper focus breathing part. It doesn't change the results. th-cam.com/video/q5g5KYOUU4o/w-d-xo.html As for why I patched the corners of the video: my teleprompter is not large enough to clear the full picture using this lens, so I shot a clean plate for the corners and used that to cover the vignetting introduced by the teleprompter. I took out the teleprompter for the focus breathing section, but in the edit I forgot to disable the mask. :)
I wish that manufacturers like Tokina and Tamron would make anamorphic lenses for full frame, as well as the camera manufacturers such as Sony, Canon and Nikon. I can't see them doing it, but it is still a wish that they would enter this niche market.
Lovely footage, Tito! I have been loving the super wide look of shooting open gate 6k on my S1 with the aivascope and a Contax zeiss 50mm. I think I could get pretty close to as wide as this vazen setup, I have an old 45mm I haven't tried it yet with, which would get it pretty close!
Those white reflections aren’t a defect with the lens. You just need a matte box on it or flag it off like you did with your hand when you pointed it out.
This looks amazing. I won't be able to afford to buy one outright, but once the rental houses start carrying these I'm sure it will be my go-to budget anamorphic rental. Thanks Tito!
Love the channel man! Probably a silly question but any idea how this lens would pair with the EVA1? Do you think I could get the S1H and the Sirui 50mm 1.6x to match without too much manipulation in post? Hoping to use this setup for a dual cam interview but this would be my first time shooting anamorphic. Considering the 85mm Vazen on the Eva as well but not sure what would pair better. Hoping you could shed some anamorphic expertise on the setup!
Wish The rolling shutter on cameras would just GO AWAY for good, can’t judge if it’s distortion from the lens or rolling shutter in heavy movement. Nice vid sir.
S1H has good rolling shutter control. What you’re seeing is IBIS artifacts! Wonder if Tito remembered to turn on the anamorphic mode for ibis... a lot of camera shake on a wider lens will make that happen, you are able to turn off in body image stabilization if you want to with the s1H
The Cook full frame anamorphics are a good point for categorizing these as budget but if 8K still seems high to you, try getting a set of Panavision Ultra Vistas and then we can talk.
Amazing breakdown @! Are there other cameras similar in price to the S1H that allow for 6K/24 or even 6K/50/60 Open Gate recording, and pair well with the Vazen's 1.8x?
I really love this set and look for your talking head part. More professional looking and high-end without trying to add the unnecessary blue rim light or having a blown out window in the background. If I had a say in it I'd keep using this set up.
amazing video thnx a lot , I have a question here, how do you monitor the squeezed image of full frame on s1h since as far as I know this camera has anamorphic option only for s35 crop ( the traditional anamorphic format) thnx a lot again, I wish I get the money for that lens one day , looks amazing ..!!!
@@stephanes. My probléma with below 1,8 anamorphic that you can almost achieve the same look with cropping a standard MFT footage, except for the light, and oval bokeh, but the oval is not that oval either, and both can be achieve by a simple 1 dollar trick (fake anamorphic)
@@HunGerMovies ahah I did that too, with anamorfake. Yes, that's why I also prefer a 2X, I have a cinelux with a diopter that enables single focus. But sharpness is only there from F5.6 and long focal.

Thanks! I found reports of 105 and 110mm, nothing on 135mm. :( IBIS set to 50mm, full sensor, 1.8x. I was just extra shaky myself, running around with the camera.

@@AnamorphicOnABudget but which monitor offers desqueezing the y axis ? :/
The breathing part, your left and right part had a freeze frame masking, hard to tell focus breathing there. but 110mm or 135mm for their next FF line up?
Ah! Very true. My bad. I masked out the teleprompter and the mask remained for that bit, which I did *without* the TP. I'll figure out where to upload the correct clip. They said 110, or 105.
I'm wondering what will happen if you use the EF-RF 0.71x focal reducer with this lens on an FF sensor. How much will it vignette, and how much wider can you go? Since it covers Arri Alexa LF open gate
I don't think you can go much wider. Plus, no RF cameras can use the proper sensor height, so I think you'd end up with vignette sides and wasted vertical resolution.
Been waiting for a review like this! So what is the field of view at 3:2 open gate? 50mm becomes _ _mm? And how about shooting full frame on a full frame sensor _ _mm?
Same price point, different offerings and features. More of them in mechanics, servicing, availability and brand recognition than in "better image" itself.
This is also a full frame lens and the Orions are not. You can use the lf extender but you'll lose speed and probably still have vignetting at 6k open gate.
