  • Windows Autopilot is the modern way to provision computers. Rather than going through a cumbersome build process, users can be up and running within minutes of opening the box, and the IT department doesn't need to get involved. Computers can be shipped directly from the factory to the end-user, and be ready to work straight away. Support for remote working just got easier.
The Pro Tech Show provides tech, tips, and advice for IT Pros and decision-makers.

Another great video as usual. It would be very helpful to provide a link to more information like a good recommended "getting started with autopilot" guide. You know how Microsoft is with their documentation, there is a ton of it so finding the steps to just get started can be super difficult. Thanks!

Excellent overview but it would have been amazing to get a demo of it actually working. Maybe setup a pretend business from scratch, licence the product and deploy a laptop using intune. Us IT pro’s in SME’s would love to use this tech but just a quick demo as we don’t have the resource and time to get this stuff up and running. Keep up the good work.!

      Thanks for the feedback!
I'm always trying to find a balance between too much and too little information, whilst remembering that my day job is with an IT consultancy and if I provide a service they'd charge for I wind up with a conflict of interest.
Do you think a demo of it working without providing a full how-to would have been useful?

@@ProTechShow Even we love to see how to video to get our self hand on experience would be grateful but you make your point. So I think short demo would be great that we at least get a glimpse of never able to experience of the unknown world.

I have a few issues with Autopilot, one of which is the below.
    microsoftintune.uservoice.com/forums/291681-ideas/suggestions/41072749-disable-shift-f10-by-default-on-windows-10-pro-and

Hmmm... Interesting one. I'm not sure how that that could be done just for Autopilot-enabled devices. Presumably you could just Shift+F10 before the Autopilot hardware check, so they'd have to ship devices with a special locked-down Windows PE environment regardless of whether Autopilot was used.
I can see why admins would want this, although my mind keeps coming back to the saying that if someone gets physical access to your computer, it's now their computer. When it comes to authorised internal users there's only so far technical controls can go. At some point it stops being a technical issue and starts being a disciplinary one if they persist in breaking the rules.

@@ProTechShow If someone gets physical access to your computer, it's definitely their computer. That doesn't mean it should be the data/software should be in their control, which would be my primary concern. I'm imagining some supply chain attack where the system is obtained, configured in some way during OOBE (Installation of a C&C), then the device is re-packaged with new anti-tamper stickers. The IT admin & end user may never know, and that terrifies me.

    • @ProTechShow

Thats a fair concern. If it's something you're worried about I suppose you have no option but to wipe it and start over after receipt, which rules out Autopilot or having the vendor apply an image for you. Even if Shift+F10 is blocked a malicious supply chain could still put a rogue image on it.

@@ProTechShow Fair point, my supply chain concern doesn't stand up very well. I guess I just don't trust users all that much. ;)
