I go through countless avocados at the restaurant I work at. One time, I was going removing the stone when the went straight through and cut my hand. I didn't use any more force than usual but the stone was really weak. Stuff happens lol.

Avocados are tasty and nutrient dense, packed with fiber, folic acid, b vitamins, healthy fats, have more phosphorus than a banana and more. Just 1/2 of an Avocado is 1 of your 5 a day fruit and veg 😊👍
I worked at a supermarket during the summer, where we made fresh guacamole every day. (It was not an easy job...) The key is making sure your avocados are ripe. If they’re hard as a rock, you’ll struggle to get the pit out, and wind up with a bunch of failed attempts at thwacking it out (i.e., pit fragments).
I've been eating them regularly for the past 30 years and have never used a knife. I use a table spoon to cut out a round hole, its surprisingly easy to do. then use the spoon to eat the contents. I don't even like them, but they are always in the reduced section of the supermarket. at 75% off and rumour has it they are a health food. so i regularly eat 2 for breakfast.
I’m 27 and have somehow only just discovered that I like avocados. Googled it and found this 10 year old video to help me out. Isn’t the internet a wonderful thing?
I'm going to have to try this "pinch from the back of the blade" thing -- first I've heard of it. What I've done since I saw it on a different show is to just turn the knife sideways (edge facing to the right, say) and tap the stone on the board. A couple of taps and it falls off. The pinch thing sounds even easier.
🎶Peel the avacado, peel the avacado Peel the avacado, peel the avacado Guac amole, guac guac amole Guac amole, guac guac amole🎶 Like if u know where this is from😂😂
im in my late teens and i've always done that to avacados never cut myself and never needed anyone to tell me. but i never used a knife to get the seed out i would just gently use a spoon...
@tiagobuhr ...do you know who Jamie Oliver is? He's got a bunch of cook books and has had 4..5? television shows. People will come on here and look up Jamie Oliver because he's basically helped to shape current food trends in England. He doesn't really need to promote.
@JamieOliver can you guys please re-edit this to show how to SAFELY get the stone OFF of the knife? I think THAT'S the scariest part! Show the "pinch from the back of the blade" technique, for those who don't know. I think I learned it from watching The Naked Chef. P.S. I love Jamie!
23:34 is where MOST cuts happen ! you should pinch it from the blunt side of the knife with thumb and forefinger - just push it away and it falls off. no ther safe way to do it barehanded.
MaxTheCat1960 exactly how does someone just miss the avocado on the first strike like he said? You have to have serious coordination problems to do that, and it seems obviously more likely that it happens when trying to take the pit out, because the knife can slip in unpredictable ways or the pit can crack.
Yup safe to strike the stone with a knife keeping your other hand out of the way. But injuries happen when with a slimy hand you try and pull the stone off the knife blade (like you just did!). Tap it off the knife with a spoon...do not use your hand! 🙂
lol my mom actually gets a steak knife and sorta spanks the avocado with the flat side of the knife and then she does what Jamie did but then cuts it into 4 wedges and then peels the skin like easy also there is this rumor that if the pit falls on ur foot youll get a tumor there. lol wow thats what they think in Peru but anyway great demo :)
I am sorry, but to be honest, the only people watching these videos are the ones that have a subscription to JamieOliver, because seriously, look at the tags : 14, AVOCADO, QuickTime, 264, HCS.... what? If you want to promote your videos better, make a bit more effort and add some tags which actually correspond to the video. Good luck mate !
rcx8777c I LIKE TO EAT MASHED UP BAKED POTATOS (WARM) WITH THE POTATO SKIN MIXED WITH MASHED AVOCADOS (WITHOUT THE SKIN) ALONG WITH TOMATO PICANTE SAUCE WITH SOUR CREAM, CHEDDAR CHEESE AND LEMON JUICE.I COULD EAT THIS MIX ALL DAY LONG.
I just came home from the ER because I held it in my hand... Not because I cut my palm but stabbed the avocado and there by it slipped, ended up with stabbing my palm :(
Sorry I get these mixed up lol I meant avocados have more POTASSIUM than a banana (not phosphorus lol) , they also have Vitamin C, E and K. Avocados really are a super food 😊👍
Avocado hand. I consider it to be the most mockable cooking injury. Yes it is sad but the reason why the person is suffering from the injury is because they stopped using their brain, and That is the sad part. So before you start cooking, make sure your brain is working properly.
Thanks Jamie for bringing me into 2019 even tho this is 9 years old.Never done that before...
1:40 I've always done that and I'm not an advanced cook at all. But now I'm suddenly scared, I feel like he jinxed me.
Actually, so long as you don't go samurai on a hand-held fruit you are good. An injury due to avocado pitting? Maybe you should not be in the kitchen.

I actually watch Jamie's videos for entertainment!
Thanks 😄🙏
Haha, charming British dude with gravity-defying hair calls avacado wedges 'dead cute'. This is why I love Jamie. :)
Thank You so much!!! =)
im in my late teens and i've always done that to avacados never cut myself and never needed anyone to tell me. but i never used a knife to get the seed out i would just gently use a spoon...

easy ways to prepare tasty avocados 😍
@tiagobuhr It doesn't really matter, a lot of people have half the page full of tags on some of their videos.
Cheers bro!

Good video guy.
Gamie! Hello from Uzbekistan!
23:34 is where MOST cuts happen !
you should pinch it from the blunt side of the knife
with thumb and forefinger - just push it away and it falls off.
no ther safe way to do it barehanded.
Well said Jamie - except that you might just have slashed your hand open with the knife when you pulled the avocado pit off the blade.......

Use a spoon! Period! I lived in Cali all my life & eaten 1,000s of avocados. NEVER used a knife to remove the pit aka stone. How ridiculous.
I saw a chef do the pit thing in his hand and I've been doing it ever since :P I gotta be more cautious
Most people in Costa Rica do the little scoop outs.
Surely knives are the main reason for cuts on the palm
@TheBazzaa94 ofcouse i do, thats the only way i would ever come across this video, because the tags are pretty horrible to be honest.
Yup safe to strike the stone with a knife keeping your other hand out of the way. But injuries happen when with a slimy hand you try and pull the stone off the knife blade (like you just did!). Tap it off the knife with a spoon...do not use your hand! 🙂
Just use a large spoon to scoop out the stone. Works perfectly every time w zero injuries. You're welcome.
@tiagobuhr You don't have a subscription to jamie oliver? umad???
After cutting in half, I use a spoon. Is a lot faster .
I enjoyed your video, well done! I love avocados but I'm not a huge fan of the 80s =)
lol my mom actually gets a steak knife and sorta spanks the avocado with the flat side of the knife and then she does what Jamie did but then cuts it into 4 wedges and then peels the skin like easy also there is this rumor that if the pit falls on ur foot youll get a tumor there. lol wow thats what they think in Peru but anyway great demo :)
IM HERE AT 2021
spoon is the go jo ! Yo !
how do I know when my avocado is ripe or not?
+Liberty Seeking it should be as soft/squishy as a few fingers on your palm, i.e. a little below the thumb, like when checking a steak for doneness
Usually when they are slightly brown and a bit soft.
At the bottom of the avocado there is a dimmit , button like thing. If that thing is brown or dark then it's ripe.
@tiagobuhr oh, and btw, I'm not subbed; I came from his website.
How is posible tha people stanbbe their hand with an ahuacate?... like how?...
LOL fuck i love jamie
u rock man!
@arthurandroid I don't really have a problem with it so it doesn't matter to me.

I love the last method of slicing the avocado - why bag it out man?
"takes me back to the 80's" XD careful your age is showing haha
put some drops of lemon in your avocado or guacamole and it won't turn black in a while
I thought avocado was ready. He’s making an avocado. That’s weird.
I have been the victim of avocado hand before...haha
stupid
Sure you can drive but do you "avocado"
