That final scene between Chief and Lasky is one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. It really drove home Halo 4's overall story message and cemented Lasky as my favorite "NuHalo" character.
Halo 4 has a game mode called spartan Ops that has a story that takes place after the events of Halo 4 Campaign. This story connects to Halo 5 and is important for context
I think the interrorgator's role is just to show the mysteriousness of ONI and them trying to dump the blame on Halsey for her spartan project. He represents one of the many heads of the orginization and thats it.
@@3ringstudiogaming I think it was implied he was gathering information to help build the Spartan-IV program. All his psychological evaluation questions seemed like they were trying to figure out how to make the next generation of Spartans most effective. He also delivers the thesis statement of the game "Do you think the Master Chief succeeded because he was, at his core, broken?" That scene in general is a framing device for that specific question that the rest of the game answers beautifully.
I have a lot of problems with this game’s execution of story (yes even with the Cortana and chief stuff), but I’ve always respected the intention and idea behind it. Taken at face value it’s such an emotionally powerful ending it’s really well done.
A lot of people dislike the 343 Halo games but they did do a few great things. They made an emotional story with Halo 4. They made Chief an even more interesting character and gave him a great character arc. There is Spartan Ops you can play which ties into 5. I suggest just watching the Halo 5 cutscenes since you don't have an xbox. Also you need to watch the Halo Wars 1 and 2 cutscenes if you plan to play Infinite since there are major story elements introduced in it that play into Infinite's story. I personally love Infinite. It has quite a lot of emotion to it. Chief has a really good character arc in Infinite.
I'm really glad to see you play through up to Halo 4, I've always liked this game despite some of the flaws, I've felt it's a pretty solid entry into the series and It felt like an epilogue to halo 3 as one last great send off to me.
The resounding "oh" at 1:00:35 i believe every halo fan experienced right at that moment. Always brings tears to my eyes. That and that sigh at when lasky give the soldiers and humanity speach bringing it full circle back to cortana. Just fuuuuuh bro
I'm seconding the call for Meg to play Halo 5 on the Gamepass Cloud PC thing. You'd get the gist with the cutscenes, but... I dunno, it feels like you'd lose some of the charm and the experience (both good and bad). Who knows? Just like how Meg and Caleb found the Clone Wars movie great and touching despite what some said about it, maybe Meg will enjoy Halo 5 against all the negative feedback she's heard about it? For Meg to get the full Halo experience, I think she should play Halo 5 not just watch the cutscenes (if possible!). Additionally, Meg, if you're in a Halo mood, you COULD watch Halo NIghtfall (think it's only like 2 hours total?) which introduces one of the primary characters/antagonists of Halo 5. That and the Hunt the Truth ads are meant to set the stage for Halo 5, and while not essential, I think they provide a good bit of context (and also I think it'd be interesting to see Meg's reaction to the polarising Hunt the Truth videos!).
Gamepass cloud can have severe latency issues at times, it can take several seconds for some inputs to register. my buddy who has relatively normal internet (250mbs up & down) and stuff was neigh unplayable most of the time. I have 8gbs up & down and the input lag makes things very difficult.
@@Jaksynn It can be inconsistent. My friends and I tried it a couple times to go through the campaign, one friend found it unplayable, whilst the other two of us found it smoother than butter. I'm hoping Meg gives it a go, and that she has no real issues
Yeah, watching a recap of 5 and then playing Infinite sounds good if you can't get an Xbox. But, ALSO, you can watch the Halo Wars cutscenes which set up Infinite. ALSO ALSO there are Halo 4 Spartan Ops cutscenes you can watch if you wanted more react stuff.
My favorite Halo campaign story now complete! I'm so glad you appreciated how beautiful it was. I think over the course of the game you probably focused on the interrogator at the beginning a bit too much lol, but that's alright. He was simply an ONI agent gathering information for building the next generation of Spartans, and his question, "Do you think the Master Chief succeeded because he was, at his core, broken?" is literally the thesis statement of the whole game. We question if he really is broken, if he's a machine, but in the end, this answers it beautifully. He's still human, he still grieves, he still has failings and vulnerabilities, he doesn't always follow orders. And in that last shot they literally deconstruct him, because that's what this journey has been about: deconstructing Chief and figuring out what drives him. That's why I love this game, its themes and imagery are so well thought-out. He is still a faceless man behind the helmet, but we finally get to see his humanity. And also I like how this last mission is like a dark version of the ending of Star Wars Episode IV. With the space combat trench run, the superweapon actually fires, we lost the princess, and the hero receives a ceremonial military welcome back but it's bittersweet. God I love this game.
Halo 4 is amazing for what it did with the narrative. Master Chief and Cortana were truly elevated as characters beyond what had been explored previously
I like to pretend this is the last game. Chief realizes he's missing out on being a person, retires, and goes on his next adventure: learning to be human.
@@natesaunders2105idk. The loss of cortana pulled emotions out of him he never showed before. It makes sense such a devastating loss would change his perspective. Its not like he hasnt earned it.
Since the Interrogator doesn't really show up anywhere else, I get the impression that he's not necessarily any important character. Just a mouthpiece for ONI as a whole to push back against Halsey's ideas in that opening cutscene and set up the themes of the rest of the game.
7:40 Lasky said that the superiors didn't like what Del Rio done with Master Chief in Requiem, for that reason, now, Lasky is the captain of the Infinity Ship 57:55 In that moment the composer was on fire to the Earth, every second thousands of lifes were lost, for thar reason the Chief active the bomb, even if it could mean his own death. 1:05:10 That city is New Phoenix, the city with most deaths by the composer, if you are gonna play spartan ops or at least see the cinematics, there is one character related with it. 1:05:45 That dust on the floor are the rests of the composed people.
I almost always come close to breaking in tears when Cortana and the Chief have a moment to themselves before their final goodbye, but somehow manage to hold back. If you wish to know more "In Depth" about that moment with Chief and Cortana, the channel - Installation 00 - did a video about this moment and how fast Cortana was able to plan this moment (which is unfathomable to think about)
One of my favorite missions in halo where it lets you fly in a different type of aircraft like the pelican in the later missions. Love how Lasky takes over and helps out Chief too. I didn't even know much about Lasky until I watched Forward Unto Dawn and played the Spartan Ops with my brother!!!
If you can't play Halo 5, I recommend watching the cutscenes. There are two orders I can suggest: Halo Wars > Halo 5 > Halo Wars 2 or Halo 5 > Halo Wars > Halos Wars 2 After this, I think you'll love Halo Infinite, it's one of my favorites
12 year old me was absolutely devastated by this ending, Halo being my first game I ever played losing Cortana was like a shot to the gut. Honestly I think 4 would have been a great stopping point for John’s story. Nothing against Halo 5 and Infinite.
This is my favorite Halo because of the story and interaction between Cortana and chief. And I don't know if they're still available.... But there were like story episodes that came out after Halo 4. And I don't know if they're still available and I hope they are because they were free and they were awesome...... If they are and you are going to actually play Halo 5 I would suggest playing those. But I love this story in interaction with those two. There was so much personal growth I feel like for chief in this one. And I love lasky. It's crazy that that is the most.... Outside of Cortana & Chief.. lasky is probably my favorite. I'm so glad he ended up in charge of the infinity.
And so ends my favorite game of all time. I'm overjoyed to hear it has a special place in your heart! I genuinely find nearly everything about Halo 4 to be almost perfect, but it's also as equally bitter as it is sweet because the next two games I _really_ don't like. For me personally, the series ends with Halo 4, on the highest of high notes. Thank you so much for playing through the Halo games, I've had a ton of fun watching!
Just a reminder he's been in that body suit since at least HALO 2 all the way till this point so i just know the stank when they peel that off him would cause other spartan 2s to pass out
A little detail I noticed in the Didact monologue cut scene at 1:05:58 I always saw this slow walk as part of Chief's sadly. His shoulders seem drooped and his head is down a bit. Just little details that sell how hurt he is in these moments. Really wish that we got more of this subtle detail showing us more of his character and the effect this is having on him than being reduced to One Liner Man by the time Infinite rolled around.
I would really recommend watching the cutscenes for halo wars and halo wars 2, and if you can't play halo 5 just watch the cutscenes for that too then play infinite
One final mission for Chief and Cortana, fighting side by side. This game really did a lot for them as characters, and I don't think they could have given Cortana a more touching ending. It's a really emotional story and after everything she's gone through with a scarily realistic depiction of dementia or some sort of mental illness, at least she got to go out on her own terms saving the person she cares the most about. The Didact gets a very underwhelming final encounter but as I said before, this really was a more personal story about Chief and Cortana and their relationship, with the Didact and Promethan stuff just being a vehicle for that. The ending though was absolutely beautiful, Cortana finally getting to touch Chief, her sacrifice, and then the scene with Laskey. There really is a lot to be said about conditioning, being told your not allowed to be your own person or feel your own feelings because you have some sort of a purpose, which has what has been done to Chief. Loved your playthrough and I'm really excited for a Halo Infinite playthrough which I think is just as good with it's characters, very introspective in a similar way but with a different vibe that I think I like even more? Halo 5 has some good things about it, but if you can't play it then I would at least recommend watching the cutscenes or some sort of explanation because it is crucial to understanding a lot of what's in Infinite. Maybe also watch the cutscnes or something for Halo Wars 2 as well? Considering there is stuff in that game that sets up certain things in Infinite as well?
I love watching fans of the series experience that final cut scene for the first time, only problem is that means I have to experience it again as well and it guts me every single time. For all the hate against Halo 4 that scene is probably the most emotional and well written moment I've ever experienced in a game.
I know Halo 4 catches a lot of flack but man... that final room, fighting our way through impossible odds with Cortana systematically destroying herself while the MASTERPIECE Arrival is playing is my favorite section of this entire franchise.
That ending gets me every single time. I mentioned in a previous comment that the gameplay wasnt my favorite, but the story was worth it. Moving forward with halo, I recommend you try at least 1 episode of Hunt The Truth and record for a reaction. The whole series is in 1 video on youtube. If you dont like it, or it doesnt get the views ill stop recommending it. Its only like 15 min long, and my favorite non-video series.
I know that the stories for Halo 3 and 4 weren’t the best, but the endings for both were full-on emotional rollercoasters. I always tear up at the endings for 3 and 4 😭😭😭
I would recommend finding out what happens before, during and after Halo 5 including the Halo Wars series. The most important of which is Halo Wars. Halo Infinite is my favorite 343 game but they really required a lot of homework to understand fully what was happening
“You say that like soldiers and humanity are 2 different things. Soldiers aren’t machines, we’re just people.” I feel like with that line, John should’ve been given a good retirement on some far off colony, maybe see his parents one more time. He deserves not only an ending but some kind of happy one at that. But god forbid 343 let go of their most profitable character.
For Fallout, Honestly I know someone's gonna say it so I might as well, Fallout New Vegas has some of the best character and story writing in the series of the modern fallout games of the past 10 years. Fallout 4 might be more modern and have some mechanical gameplay stuff that's fun, but it's not quite as rounded off. Though I will say New vegas is infamous for crashing often even today though so just be aware of like fan patches and such. It runs on the fallout 3 gamebryo engine which is the same engine as tes oblivion. So it was pretty dated even when it came out. Still one of my favorite games though.
Honestly Halo 5 hunt the truth is fantastic. It’s an audio series For halo 5 marketing. It stars Keegan-Michael Key from key and peele. And it’s not too long either
1:08:43 youd love master chief in halo infinite he’s so good he’s kinda a good mixture of that badass super hero we see in halo 2 and 3 but then the whole human side of him like in halo 4 it’s just so good I’d argue halo infinite has the best master chief story out of all the games
Lots of people made some great comments about things to catch up with as you continue on the Halo journey. Still hope you can somehow make Halo 5 happen, either through a form of gamepass or finding a way to borrow/rent the game! But if it's just not possible, I'll definitively be happy to see your reactions to the cutscenes and overall presented story. Super duper looking forward to watching you play Halo Infinite. And when you're done with the Halo games for now, would definitively enjoy watching you take a gander at Fallout 4!
My two cents, I’d love to see you play titanfall 😁 you can play that through and it’s a good self contained story. Extra lore exists if you’d like but the essentials are all there in the games campaign
Based on your analysis at the end of the video here, think you'll really like a lot, but not all, of the character work in Halo 5, And most, If not all the The character work in Infinite. Definitely watch the Spartan ops cut scenes, you should be able to just get them straight out of the firefight menu on Master Chief collection. Watch those before Halo 5, And then the cutscenes from Halo wars 1 and Halo wars 2 before Halo infinite. Also Titanfall 2 hype!!!!!!!
Next I'd say play or watch the Halo 4 Spartan Ops cutscenes, and the Halo Wars cutscenes are also pretty great too. I know Halo 5 isn't the best received game out there, but if you enjoyed 4 there's still a chance you'll like it. Either way, definitely need at least see the cutscenes from the game before you get into Halo Infinite, and the Halo Wars 2 cutscenes are also recommended after Halo 5 but before Infinite as well.
Anyone else notice the bug where the music doesn’t play during the trench run until you die once? It took me a long time to notice…because I always die
The interrogator was just there to establish that Halsey is still alive but the UNSC is investigating her lack of ethics. She herself pays off more in the Spartan Ops story in my opinion.

@@3ringstudiogamingI always thought that it was supposed to be lock😊
Didact's speech at the end was likely long ago in the timeline, but it underscores his traits as the villain.
I think for halo five, if u get a month of pc game pass, u won’t need an Xbox for it
Yes, it's in the cloud gaming section for PC.. you specifically need game pass ultimate
But I can play Halo 5 from my phone browser... I think should be the same in a Web Browser on a pc or any device.
@@06Mtx I think that’s thru the cloud gaming service which is connected to game pass
She'd have to play it through the cloud, as Halo 5 never got a PC port. PC only ever got Forge and custom games for testing maps made in Forge.
You should check out the legendary ending for halo 4
@@lordolxinator I hope it runs smoothly for her as well.

The Didact’s speech at the end is incredible 🥹 yeah the legendary ending does actually show Chief’s eyes & profile right at the end
Thanks for this playthrough, Halo 4 is one of my favourite games because I love the story
I really hope she does watch Halo Wars. The story can get super confusing if you don't.
God I love this game.
i recommend watching the spartan ops cutscenes before halo 5 or you will be super confused about some things going in to halo 5
Halo 4 is amazing for what it did with the narrative. Master Chief and Cortana were truly elevated as characters beyond what had been explored previously
1:06:40 *"Hey you stole that from Iron Man"* - Kid from New Zealand
I like to pretend this is the last game. Chief realizes he's missing out on being a person, retires, and goes on his next adventure: learning to be human.
I like to pretend 3 was it but that works too. At least Infinite tried to do its best I guess
@@dumat100 ehh, chief would never retire, he wouldn't know what to do with himself since he has only known war all his life
@@natesaunders2105
Chief actually has taken into consideration retiring, to become a politician!
This is how I've always seen it
7:40 Lasky said that the superiors didn't like what Del Rio done with Master Chief in Requiem, for that reason, now, Lasky is the captain of the Infinity Ship
57:55 In that moment the composer was on fire to the Earth, every second thousands of lifes were lost, for thar reason the Chief active the bomb, even if it could mean his own death.
There are two orders I can suggest:
Halo Wars > Halo 5 > Halo Wars 2
or
Halo 5 > Halo Wars > Halos Wars 2
After this, I think you'll love Halo Infinite, it's one of my favorites
The whole Bioshock trilogy is an amazing story experience, if you haven't played it yet.
I've been reallyyy tempted to play, lately!
Seeing the Incineration cannon used on a crawler physically hurts.
12 year old me was absolutely devastated by this ending, Halo being my first game I ever played losing Cortana was like a shot to the gut. Honestly I think 4 would have been a great stopping point for John’s story. Nothing against Halo 5 and Infinite.
I love you for playing the Halo saga, greetings from Mexico
a man who is more machine and an ai that is more human and their relationship is aweome
No matter how many times I play it, it makes me cry more each time.
i cried with you during the ending with lasky, that scene always kills me man.
I remember the day when my brother was playing this at the first time and I was watching him, we were sooooo sad at the end.
Not me watching the 'Welcome Home, John' moment only to look up and see Homelander in the elevator with the cake on my TV 😂😂
This was my first Halo game too, and I so loved it!!
Love the ending walk seeing how massive master chief is compared to everyone else around him lol
I think you would like the Gears of War franchise
Chief pushes the plunger on the bomb *Pizza Hut commercial*
What a treat this episode is gonna be
If i ever see a dry eye at their goodbye ill eat my shoe, its always moving.
I would really recommend watching the cutscenes for halo wars and halo wars 2, and if you can't play halo 5 just watch the cutscenes for that too then play infinite
Watch the legendary ending, it's not too much i'm sure you'll appreciate it, also the Spartan Ops Cutscenes are still a prerequisite for halo 5
I highly recommend watching the spartan ops scenes as it directly goes in towards 5
I feel like Meg should watch the legendary ending, anyone else agree?
Eh it's not that much different. And she said she doesn't wanna see his face
@@HispanicMan fair enough
I know that the stories for Halo 3 and 4 weren’t the best, but the endings for both were full-on emotional rollercoasters. I always tear up at the endings for 3 and 4 😭😭😭
I would recommend finding out what happens before, during and after Halo 5 including the Halo Wars series. The most important of which is Halo Wars.
Halo Infinite is my favorite 343 game but they really required a lot of homework to understand fully what was happening
The Halo Wars Cutscenes would be a good react
I think the didacts speech was done before the firing of the array to the forerunner council
Spartan ops cutscene is mini sequal
Halo 4 was a masterpiece idc what anyone says
“You say that like soldiers and humanity are 2 different things. Soldiers aren’t machines, we’re just people.”
I feel like with that line, John should’ve been given a good retirement on some far off colony, maybe see his parents one more time. He deserves not only an ending but some kind of happy one at that. But god forbid 343 let go of their most profitable character.
Always loved it especially the end always
She’s going to love halo infinite
I got caught up just in time for you to post this video! I highly suggest watching the Halo 4 Spartan Ops cut scenes.
Cortana was the best, amazing ending for her, thank you Dr. Halsey for making the Spratans and Cortana.
You know how long its been since that armor has been taken off of him
Ah… it’s that time. ❤
I’m glad you enjoyed the game I love this one
Honestly Halo 5 hunt the truth is fantastic. It’s an audio series For halo 5 marketing. It stars Keegan-Michael Key from key and peele. And it’s not too long either
He hadn’t been out of that armor in earnest for long long time
1:08:43 youd love master chief in halo infinite he’s so good he’s kinda a good mixture of that badass super hero we see in halo 2 and 3 but then the whole human side of him like in halo 4 it’s just so good I’d argue halo infinite has the best master chief story out of all the games
Now you and Caleb HAVE to play the spartan ops missions together! 🙌 It actually contains a lot of the story for the next game
Extra lore exists if you’d like but the essentials are all there in the games campaign
right in the feels
Marty Robbins had a big iron on his hip, Chief had the Big Bomb on his hip
