So someone scratched in Johns number because Spartans aren’t supposed to be memorialized and they wanted people to remember.
I honestly think Arbiter etched 117.
Anyone lesser would've been detained by the military for defacing a memorial like that. Not only that, someone (likely Lord Hood) attached John's military rank patch "The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy", so they agree John should be remembered despite the restriction.
Though, Arbiter does clarify he doesn't think John is dead. But he was one who "journeyed into the howling dark and did not return." Arbiter did not agree with John being excluded.
@@TheLivelovelaugh165 yeah you make some good points. Never thought about Arby doing it but you could be on to something
Spartans never die. They're just missing in action.
You have 117 likes. I refuse to change it.
@@ReveredDead hahaha awesome
I like how Cortana brights up when Chief says, " When i make a promise."
Halo CE
Cortana: It's finished.
MC: No, I think we're just getting started.
Halo 3
Cortana: It's finished.
MC: It's finished.
And in CE he climbs out of his cryo pod to start, and 3 he finally climbs back in after the fight.
@@crispy_338 Jeez, that would really be lame.
This should have been the end of the Chief franchise. I appreciate some people like Halo 4 but this character didnt need to be deepened or continued. Its a bittersweet beautiful ending. And that's fine! The Chief and Cortana reconcile, they both get some measure of peace. Maybe some day they can rejoin the universe. THE END
The line "No, I think we are just getting started" was so interesting when there was Halo CE only :D You thought about how it would go on. Will you even be able to play as covenant? Will you see earth and fight on it? And they really did. When i first saw the Halo 2 e3 trailer i was so excited. Its just bad that it didnt look like that.
Yes 😊👍
I played Halo Reach during a very difficult time in my life, I was very close to committing suicide. But the story of Halo Reach taught me to keep fighting until my last breath. That was 4 years ago and now I have the noble team's insignia tattooed on my arm and I am going through the best moments of my life, I love this game, this game represents a rebirth for me.
I know exactly what you mean. In 2010 I went through a fairly painful unrequited love. I saw Halo: Reach as a metaphor for what was happening inside my inner life. Fight against Covenant invasion associated with the fight against powerful romantic feelings and obsessive attachment to that girl who rejected me back then.
Fight on and be strong ❤
This should have been the end of the Halo franchise: at least with Cortana and Chief. Halo Reach. and ODST add without messing with the formula and they are rare examples of good prequels. I appreciate some people like Halo 4 but this character didnt need to be deepened or continued. Its a bittersweet beautiful ending. And that's fine! The Chief and Cortana reconcile, they both get some measure of peace. Maybe some day they can rejoin the universe. THE END
The Halo 3 terminals are a lot of text, I think some of the chat members were confused thinking that they were videos. It's a lot of text. Now you can watch the animated movie Halo: Legends which gives some insight into the deeper halo lore. There is also a collection of short stories from the book halo: Evolutions and some of these short stories were animated and put up on youtube. This was actual halo content put out by the game studio I think. The shorts on youtube are The mona lisa, Midnight in the heart of Midlothian, HeadHunters, and The Return. It think it's pretty cool that they turned a bunch of short stories into animated short movies. The Halo movie Halo: Forward Unto Dawn is pretty good for a film with just a 10 million budget. That's worth a look too, but you might want to wait until right before you play Halo 4 for that one.
Don’t forget Halo: Homecoming. One of my favorites!
@@alexryll9237Well, Halo Legends is 343i lore. Not Bungie lore
@@tuckerhiggins4336 So?Its not as if 343 can't retroactively recontextualize the finer details of Halo lore, especially when the changes made serve to mostly enhance the overall quality of the universe.
@@tuckerhiggins4336 How about don't gate keep and let her enjoy her halo journey. I get it 343i messed up alot but that has nothing to do with her content
@@tuckerhiggins4336 Umm no, Legends is Bungie Era Lore, it was released right after Halo Wars and before H3 ODST & Reach.
We didnt see master chief for 5 years after this :(
OMGGGG
@@Thevikingninja117lame I’d like to imagine we(noble 6) saved John 117 how cool is that?
@@MegMage someone just tried scamming through and account with your name pleaae spread the word! I dont anyone to fall for it!
halo reach filled the void though. Second best halo behind 2 imo
If that was the end of Halo forever would be a fairly ok note. He saves the day and flies off, most think he's dead but there could be some hope of his return someday. Almost like King Arthur.
My favorite moment is either the nod between Chief and Arbiter or when John rests his head after Cortona said it's been an honor; that's the only moment of rest all series.
The only moment of genuine relief he's probably had in decades and it comes with him being called his actual name 😭
Adding on to this, the fact that the only time we see him rest is when he's about to potentially die
Johnsons death always hits hard for me. One of the greatest Halo characters ever. RIP.
Never felt earned to me tbh
@@communitygamer117 but someone at bungie thought it was a good idea to let O'Donnel make creative decisions.
If you’re still curious about all the information in the Halo 3 terminals and wanna react to them for your chat, the TH-camr Instillation 00 actually turned it all into an audiobook, he even got Master Chiefs VA himself to come make a brief appearance for it.
Also fun fact: A certain charachter helps chief from behind the shadows one who was very influential in an ancient war trying to redeem for it's past sins Trying.... also this charachter will never appear in any halo game in any form so it's not a spoiler at all :)
👀
@@MegMage Look at the terminals for H3 if you want to know more about this character...one of the most interesting ones in Halo lore IMO.

Yes. @@coshcosh3753 he is also a certain someone that opens up a portal after a certain recent game so he is still Round. Remember the weapon said that she did not open the portal and she did not know who did
durring the warthog run im screaming in my head "STEP ON IT!!!" lol
Lmao right? "The bridge is collapsing under me, better go as slow as I can!"
Arby charging in with a flamethrower is a certified Bro Moment
kinda crazy how the logic plague is basically an amped up version of asking a computer to "divide zero by zero" on steroids
Time to watch the movie Halo: Forward unto Dawn, it acts as an introduction to a new character and probably the only good character in halo 4 and leads directly into halo 4.
After reach and halo 3 odst of course.
Forward unto Dawn can be a little corny but I absolutely love it. Some really cool scenes and very good character development.
@@dfcd1432 I agree plus its better than Nightfall.
@@limawhiskey7451 343 basically made supplementary material necessary for understanding the games until Infinite came out, which was a terrible idea. Halo 4's terminals are basically necessary to understand what is going on in that game, and Halo 5 has practically a laundry list of things. It's is more of a sequel to Spartan Ops than Halo 4. Who would even think the co-op mode was mandatory?
@Fuzunga The secondary material is really not necessary to understand Halo 4, I completely understood the story before I even leaned about the terminals or Halo: Forward Unto Dawn when I was 13. All the secondary material for halo 4 does is give extra context for things, literally no different to something like the Halo novels that came out after the first games.
"You found me"
"Just keep your head down... there's two of us in here now, remember"
"Take us home"
these lines never fail to make me tear up
It was so tense watching the warthog run knowing the platform was falling apart RIGHT behind her.
It was so tense watching how bad she was at driving
the warthog run takes place outside the silent cartographer island. idk if anyone in your chat told you this or not but im letting you know. its the same halo from halo 1 and the top view shows you the island. pretty neat iwl. and sad at the same time
I think it’s so cool to see your take on the lore and tidbits bits from dialogue through out all of these missions. Because most huge fans already know most of this lore from playing it over and over I LOVE seeing your take away from it all. It’s so awesome and makes me happy to see someone enjoying it all as much as we did our first times. Especially since most the time ur so spot on with your interactions of things.
One thing I love most about this game is how important almost every single piece of dialogue is even in heated moments in gameplay they drop some line that is so deep or lore important. Even watching the cutscenes super closely can tell you some awesome things about characters that you would have missed otherwise. My favorite is in the cutscenes at the end of the floodgate mission when everyone is listening to Cortana’s message, lord hood is talking about how risky it is to go through with her plan. As he is talking there is a wide shot of everyone standing over the table and Cortana in the middle, chief looks down at the ground and then at Cortana subtly clutching his fist. It shows in that moment how badly he regrets leaving her behind on high charity, his pain hearing lord Hood say it might be best to leave her and stay and protect earth. Oh gosh… I could go on and on for hours it just makes me so happy to see you finally beat this game and I cant wait for more!
That Skybox at the end with the memorial service...the sunset, the supercarrier in the background and the surrounding savannah might be one of the most beautiful visuals I've seen in gaming...combined with the score playing.
An ODST playthrough and then Reach has to be done 👍🏾
I remember having a dream about that while I was on holiday the following summer, 2008. I remember as the music swelled to think of the happiest thing I could, so I imagined two of my Xbox friends at the time getting married. Never happened, though.
God man.
The music in halo 3.
Especially at the end. It always makes me tear up a bit.
Nostalgia, mostly. A time I'll never get to go back to.
Happier times.
Something else you can watch/play now is Halo Wars 1. I’m not sure if RTS games are your cup of tea, but if they aren’t you can definitely just watch the game movie on TH-cam! I’d recommend watching one that has some gameplay segments in it as well since the cutscenes alone don’t tell the full story!
Halo Wars 2 is insane. I never knew how good those games’ cutscenes were. Plus, Jerome & Isabel are awesome characters I hope are brought back into the next Halo game. Buts it’s 343…
Meg you should consider playing the Gears of War series. I feel that you would love it like you love Halo!
Congrats on completeting the triolgy!❤
Guilty Spark has a very very cool origin in the Forerunner Saga of books, and it continues in the Rion Forge series. He's my favorite Halo character, period.
I recommend anyone who likes Halo at least read the three Forerunner books and the Rion forge books (Smoke and Shadow, Renegades, and Point of Light.)
"At least she could do some defragging" had me 🤣🤣🤣
How the Halo series should have ended
Cortana: The halo is charging, we need to hurry
Meg: Sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows...🎶
1:22:24 I always love this dialog here. Cause it explains everything grave mind said about children fathers and sons earlier to chief in the cortana mission.
Oh boy ODST and Reach very good. The terminals are a lot of reading but they have a ton of lore. You can also watch Halo Legends and Halo Evolutions since they don’t spoil anything. Halo Wars is also good to look at and its story does come into play later. And after you do Reach you should watch Forward Unto Dawn before starting Halo 4. Reach might make you cry. It’s definitely one of the more sad Halos.
Bro all I remember is all the old TH-cam videos trying to explain their theories on where Chief and Cortana went.
Radio silence for the next 5 years.
BTW, this is the canonical ending to Halo, and it links back to the begining of Halo 1 with Chief coming out of cryo-sleep on a ship in an unknown region of space. We're back where we started, like on a ring...
The entire lore of the Human - Covenant War is paved with incredible stories of heroes and sacrifice.
So excited for Halo Legends. It's such an amazing movie, I'm surprised 343 never made any kind of sequel or follow up. Hope you'll watch the Mona Lisa too
RIP Johnson. you were the Best!!! I CANT WAIT FOR REACH!!!
"You found me." Made me crumple playing this as a kid. Like I was reunited with and old friend.
Chief and Arby in a warthog together, just like she wanted 😁
Hopefully Halo ODST next game.
I love how we leave chief in a cryochamber, the same way we are first introduced to him in CE.
I forget where this came from, but I believe it was Marty. Miranda and Johnson's deaths weren't in the original cut of Halo 3.
There was supposed to be 2 Halo games, but their ambitions and scope of the narrative was so large they had to split Halo 2's story in two games.
So that's why Halo 2 had such an abrupt ending. Since the story was supposed to be concluded in Halo 2.
I think Marty said this in a interview. That they had gotten to the end of writing Halo 3 and no major characters had died. And Marty is actually responsible for Johnson's death. He's the one who proposed the idea to kill him off. I don't know if he also had the same idea for Miranda, but I know for a fact that he killed Johnson.
It's cool to see how much input Marty had on the narrative. He really understands the story more than you would think, he had a big hand creating it. The writing team was very open with ideas.
I love how you started whacking the flood when you ran out of ammo and hit a couple crawler in the Reactors room
There was a series of shorts on YT that came out to promote the fourth game, and they turned it into a cohesive movie, Forward Unto Dawn. That was my introduction to Halo, and enjoyed it a lot.
My first name is John and Halo is like my favorite franchise. I was pleased that you started to play more by like smartly and almost made it Five times detonating the reactors barriers. And singing fight song was pretty nice too.😂😂
Can’t wait for ODST, it takes place during the events of halo 2 and gives a more human story about what was going on while chief was being a hero
This is one of the most iconic endings in game, imo. Glad to see that you enjoyed the journey, that isn't over yet!
Personally, i never liked 343s take on Halo. Halo 3s ending is perfect, same with Reach!
Awesome as always and have a wonderful weekend coming up
Meg Thank You.😊👍🎼🎼
1:42:55 makes me tear up this music is beyond just music its like listening to hope, man the halo trilogy was really something magical.
This channel has a way out making me cry and laugh at the same time.
Imagine, back in the day most people in the fandom actually thought that the John actually died.
Also, in that moment, when Cortana tells him that it was an honor serving with him... That's the first time we hear Chief's name in the games.
o7. Master Meg, cya in ODST and Legends.
(Don't forget about Halo Wars as well)
The wait back then to see where their story would go was AGONIZING. Of course having ODST, Halo: Reach and Halo Wars was great of course but it was a LONG five years. Also watching people playing through the series for the first time is amazing. Seeing them get to the end of Halo 3 makes always makes me go and play it too, lol.
If you love Cortana and Chief's relationship, you'll LOVE Halo 4.
Dont forget to add halo legends to the watch list before halo 4. Forward unto dawn should be watched right before halo 4. But please do odst and reach.
@1:25:36 yelling “shutup!” at the grave mind after losing Johnson, we all felt that 😂😂😂
I was today years old when I learned that the wreck of High Charity in the center of the Ark was already shown in Halo 3 and not just later in Halo Wars 2.
The skyboxes in this game were always so pretty. Outdated graphics aside, I honestly think this was the peak of Halo's art-style.
I had a huge smile on my face the first time i got cortana back
she chief didn't have a picture because spartans never die they are declared missing in action.
The trauma we all endured as a kid has been resurfaced watching her reaction now 😢
I mean this purely in good fun, but MegMage driving like Kat is actually hilarious to me. XD
I'm sorry, I can't ship Cortana and Chief.
After all, I can't ship them whom are already together.
I know it’s just head cannon, but I want to believe Arby scratched Chief’s number into that memorial
I cried when i first played halo 3 sergeant johnson was my favorite character
he didnt have a picture for memorial because... Spartans never die, they go missing in action.
"spartans never die, they're just missing in action" spartans were super soldiers but also propaganda tools. they want people to think they're invincible.
Since you played the MCC Meg, you can't experience the true halo 3 ending with the credits with Bungie (The true Halo creators) message for the fanbase that has driven that company to make this game before the takeover with 343 industries.
HERE IT IS :)
might be in the minority, but I’m pumped for Halo 4. story & cutscenes are top tier
@42:34 the way she lights up... she begins to glow knowing that chief is there now
I was going to say maybe they didn’t have pictures of Master Chief on the wall because their policy is Spartans never die they can only be listed as missing in action. But Lord Hood says to Arbiter that he can’t believe he died so who knows.
I mean that's an just official combat statistic for "the people back home". Obviously higher ups will know if a Spartan is confirmed KIA. Lord Hood genuinely thought the Halo ring killed him.
In Halo3 I kept getting lost all the time. Had to keep rewarching walkthroughs to figure out where to go.
This is my favorite game in the trilogy by far. It may be the shortest and while I do wish the dialogue was on par with Halo 2 and I Arbiter got a bit more attention, but those are just nitpicks to me.
The story is fantastic and is mostly told through beautiful visuals and spectacular music. The gameplay is by far the best it’s ever been with a consistent fun challenge. This game wrapped the trilogy with a nice bow, ending every plot point and character arc in a way that felt natural and satisfying.
I particularly love that Chief and Cortana end up where back where they began: him in a cryotube waiting for his A.I. to wake him when humanity needs him. Only this time they're stronger because of their connection. Their bond is so powerful that Chief asks Cortana to “wake him when SHE needs him” instead of humanity. That one line of dialogue just shows how much they have grown as a duo and I love it. The story is so good it doesn't need as many words as Halo 2 to convey a great narrative.
I'm excited for you to take on ODST and REACH. Stylistically, story, and atmosphere wise they are very different in a good way.
I love your interpretation of Cortana's character as Halsey's daughter because that's how I always saw it. There's this common idea of Cortana just being a young halsey but there are several times that cortana reffers to her as "Mother". Another aspect that i feel hasn't been explored too is her relationship with Miranda, since Miranda being Halsey's bio daughter and Cortana her symbolical daughter.
Never played reach but good lord i cant wait for you to Play odst because it has my FAVORITE OST
1:13:52 I laughed hard at that 😂. In the 15 years or so since i played halo 3, i never thought of it that way.
You SERIOUSLY have to watch "Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn" it's a movie that ties into Halo 4. Very much worth checking out before playing 4!!
Halo 3 cinematics need to be redone. Also, that "eye" is actually a planet, used by the Ark for it's base material.
Congratulation on finishing up H3, the one that is probably my favorite of the bunch. It's nice to see how much you've grown as a player since CE! Even with the occasional point of struggle in a few specific levels. This was the first campaign I did Solo as my friends were pretty far away from me at the time, so didn't go for a Legendary run on this one, but stuck to Heroic. And that last flood level was such a hurdle even then!
I'm looking forward to catching up to your play through of ODST and Reach, and what you'll think of 4 and 5, with those last two being quite polarizing in the fandom. But I'll be specially looking forward to when you get to Infinite, as that is my next favorite campaign.
When you wrap up, it would be pretty interesting to hear your thoughts and which were your favorites in order! You have some interesting thoughts on all of the lore so far, implied and otherwise.
1:52:59 We now know that the planet they was drifting to was Requiem, setting the events of Halo 4 in motion.
I really wish that this was where Chiefs story ended. THE Spartan actually being MIA. Saving everyone and leaving everyone as a Hero, as the soldier. He never truly dies but is also taken off of the story playing field so to speak and his final final fate is just left up to mystery.
Well it’s about time! Finish this fight, Meg 😤
Before Halo 4, you NEED to play Reach.
@@paperclip6377 343 games are canon tho
not sure if u noticed. but there isnt a single scene so far were chief successfully lands a aircraft without crashing.
I highly encourage you to watch Halo Legends now. It’s incredibly expansive to the lore. Some episodes are wonderfully beautiful, while others are charmingly goofy. I cannot praise it enough.
The next thing you should watch before getting into the 343 era is watching Halo Legends and then Halo: Foward Unto Dawn, there’s some really cool explorations of the lore that will really help your understanding of certain things going foward
I love this ending and consider it the end of the franchise. I don't think of the following games as canon even though they certainly are. I do really enjoy the next two games though
This has probably already been said but would definitely recommend Halo Legends and especially Forward Unto Dawn prior to playing Halo 4
Halo wars is the next game release order wise.
Halo Wars is a strategy game set 20 years before the first game, It’s not relevant to the other games but Halo Wars 2 leads into Halo Infinite.
Even if you’re not good at strategy games you should be able to finish it on easy.
1:44:47 You are a cutie, that reaction brings back so many memories, me and my little brothers were the same 🥲
Halo first strike is a good bok to start with if you wanna know how the war between the humans and covenant began
thanks for awesome trilogy Meg!! cant wait for your ODST playthrough!
During your halo 2 playthrough you mentioned wanting to know if the prophets knew what the rings actually did. The original storyboards for halo 2 were released and reveal what Truths original plan was supposed to be (Halo 2 had a notoriously bad development so a lot had to be cut to make the launch date, which is why halo 2 ends on a cliffhanger)
If you're curious about it, I recommend a video called "halo 2's lost ending: the reveal" from C3 Sabertooth (vid is < 6mins). The end of a series that animated the storyboards and used cut halo 2 dialogue. I personally think it had a better character arc for Arby too
Interested to see your thoughts on the other games
What a great journey! 😉
Hope that you can play ODST and Reach!
Glad to see you enjoy Halo 3! I'm curious to see if you can react to secrets and funny dialogues video of H3 as well! 😇
Of course ONI would have mug shots of John in their employee files. But they may be top secret.
Time to play ODST now! Another awesome game

The funniest thing about Chief and Arbiters relationship is that Chief literally only said 1 word to Arbiter throughout this entire game: “Worse” at the end of The Storm.
Chief ask arbiter about the new halo and then spark show up
@@zacariasfloresdelcampo9949 Chief asks that to Spark, not Arby. It doesn't make sense otherwise.
@@NeuMaster9No he said how did you know directly to arbiter and that's where 343 guilty spark appears to chief and says just now
@@SGK_777 arbiter talk first: "A replacement for the ring u destroy"
Chief ask him: "when did u know?"
And the spark show up
@@SGK_777 Watch the cutscene again and think for a second about this: How would the Arbiter know about the replacement ring beforehand since he doesn't have any knowledge about the Ark's functions? He wouldn't,right? So,how would Chief asking him that make sense in the first place?
Next, think about Spark's dialogue near the end of the mission "The Ark" when the numerous Sentinels show up and Johnson is about to shoot them down. Spark says he can't say _for sure_ what their function is,which foreshadows something else is going on behind the scenes, something we aren't privy to yet. And then at the end of the mission "The Covenant" he says he had his hopes that a new ring was being built which outright confirms that he had some knowledge of the Ark's systems,at least enough to suspect the formation of a new ring.
Edit:You can also see Spark hiding and hovering behind Chief and Arby in that cutscene by the blue light he emits,so MC definitely knew he was there.
I know that the cutscene camera's point of view makes it seem like Chief is talking to Arby by making it look as if he turned towards him so your assumption is a common mistake to make.
A lot of players don't like this mission. From a story perspective, I want to like the mission. I would like it a lot more if ammunition for human weapons was more abundant. There's hardly any!
Fun fact: much like the Library in halo CE, it is actually possible to kill everything in this level. Even those annoying bubbles in the walls can be cleared. The problem is finding enough ammunition. There is plenty of shotgun ammunition to go around in the library. Here, not so much.
someone may have already recommended it, but i really suggest checking out Malukahs song Frozen Sleep about Cortana dealing with being alone while chief is sleeping, its really incredible
Very excited for you to get to Reach!
Congratulations on finishing the fight. You are gonna love ODST and Reach. Definately recommend ODST first as that is set within the events between Halo 2 and 3 and runs on the same engine that was used for Halo 3. Reach is very different in terms of feel and gameplay but is absolutely solid.
Now that you beat the game, you definitely should watch a set of trailers called “The Believe Campaign.”
Such a bombastic and emotional conclusion to the trilogy! My only gripe with it is some of Bungie's original plans for these final levels would have been even better. Especially Cortana hijacking a Scarab to fight the Gravemind in an epic kaiju battle. Would have been a great moment of empowerment to be able to fight back against her tormentor.
