And as Roy Clarke (the creator and writer of ALL of this series) said, the contribution of Ronnie Hazlehurst's magical music cannot be overlooked. It was an integral part of the glory of this darling show.
A lovely, lovely program with that lovable little urchin Compo and his irascible comrades spreading mayhem and mirth wherever they wander. A world of fun never to e repeated.
Who would have thought that a scruffy little character could become such a comedy icon and make this show what it was down load some of his early films etc he could play any part and the way he could be a Londoner or from the north or west country was great comedy or serious he was great R.I.P. compo and co all sadly missed this type of comedy is sadly no more
Love the ones with seymore Mr Aldridge seems more of a connect between Owen and sallis. Than previous pals. I mean don't get me wrong they've always been the original likely lads of North waest Yorkshire and all need to be remembered but this team was great. God rest all these past and present true actors who made them sens apart of our family. Talent remembered and reconized as truthfully honest
I've got alot of the episodes saved and I watch them over and over. I never tire of them. They're hilarious. They're just like dear family members. When I dont watch them for 2 or 3 days I miss it. !!! ♡♡♡♡♡ I turn them on sometimes even if I'm busy and just listen to them.
I had not realised Seymour and Wally were in at the same time. I would like to see some of the original series with Michael Bates. I hardly remember those but I do remember that Foggy was not in the original gang.

Such beautiful countryside .............. one of my favorite series, full of laughs and candor....... wish we all had lifelong friends like these. BTW........ever notice how much in this episode, Marina.............reminds you of the present day looks ( although older ) of Samantha Fish ???
That Kayak looks like a old wood rib and canvas model The Boy scouts would build as a project. I was given one my buddies older brother built. I was in the middle of replacing the canvas when a very over weight buddy from school leaning on it broke half the ribs..It became Instant kindling wood .he was on the hefty side.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
Oh how I loved this show...all the wonderful actors who gave so much life to each of the characters...And the beautiful country scenery of England. I wish it was still on, but Comcast decided to take it away from the viewers some years back. American TV shows don't seem to be as good as British shows, probably, because I think they must have better acting schools. One thing I am wondering about is, did they use canned laughter? When outside scenes are shown, there just couldn't be an audience. Anybody know? Frank Thornton was also in "Are You Being Served" as the Floorwalker at Grace Brothers Department Store, playing the part of Captain Peacock. I believe some of the wonderful actors have passed on...May they all rest in peace. 09/23/'18
They would preview the shows to a select audience and record the laughs. they would dub the laughs in after that. I have heard that people would line up for hours to see the new episodes. In my opinion that made it much better than bland canned laughter. I hope that helps Ethel : )
As Steve Rice said they did a special preview so that they could record the actual laughter the directors said they would never use canned laughter as it was so false
so, if I binge-watch 30 years of "Last of the Summer Wine" how many blisters will I get on my butt? Or will my butt just be one big blister? I love this show... a classic
I see this with other series as well - the TV networks seem to buy one job-lot of episodes - and then just repeat these over and over again. Imagine if we only ever saw a couple of years worth of M*A*S*H....

I love this series - such a nice piece of British humour! But it is unfortunate that diminishing other nations is an acceptable thing enhanced by gross ignorance: the name Helga sounds more German than Ukrainian; the same can be said about the remark about the national cuisine - it is unlikely that the person who wrote the script had ever tasted it and the comment is made by a representative of the nation that does not hit the top ten as to the best food in the world.
OKAY I LOVED THIS SHOW SINCE THE BEGINNING. LOVE ALL BRITISH, SHOWS, HUMOUR AND SERIOUS. BEST EVER. LOVED THIS LITTLE MAN AND HIS FUNNY WAYS. WILL BE MISSED AS WILL BE OTHERS WHO HAVE PASSED.

Life goes by to quick my friend

You’re right. Just yesterday, it seems, I was 25 and yet oddly today is my 75th birthday. How did it all happen so fast ?
Wish I had friends like this ,what a beautiful Yorkshire,
I did have friends this 60 or so years ago. It appears I have outlived them all. Magnificent mates all! RIP to an era long gone!
Compos death and goodbye from everyone on the show was so heart warming and sad at the same time
Can't watch it as too sad for me!
These three are definitely my favorite ones I watch the ones with Seymour and the other two over and over again. Though I do miss sid from the cafe
