    Gilbert, we used to say “hi” to each other on the U of A campus as you walked very fast to wherever you were going!!
    Gil has an incredibly fast walk and a lovely way about him before he became a standout. I had season tickets right behind the goalpost. He was such an amazing slasher to the goalpost. My favorite college player. I was his fan first because of his friendliness. I was a female non-traditional student.
    I am very proud of Gilbert for being a dad and being an articulate man who brings me joy today too!
    Good job, Gilbert Arenas!!

    I figure great coaching isn’t just play calling or creating an offense but more so manifest a culture of winning through trust, respect and understanding that the coach is the true point guard of a team and the way the team plays is an extension of the coaches themselves. The way you play is essentially how you would play if he was on the court running with y’all in the way he wants.

    Not only did Jordan not want Jackson to take over, but Jordan scored 30 points a game before and after him so Jordan wasn't the change that brought a championship. Jackson, the triangle and him making Scottie step up(making him point small forward) and guarding Magic is what changed them into a championship team. Also Kobe and Shaq didn't start off as champions either. Yes the star players don't really need coaching like Jordan and Kobe, but it's not a solo game. And neither one of them started off being the "team" player. Jackson helped form them 2 dynasties.

  • @tiismuna
    @tiismuna ปีที่แล้ว +9

    They forgot who MJ was before winning those championships.
    You'all ignoring what happened to Kobe after Phil left the first time.
    They were great but they're not winning. Coaches has hands on the system. Even if you have a big 3 but if the coach can't get them somewhere they will not win.

    Pippen and Jordan didn't have "some butting", the last shot querrel Pippen had was when Michael was off the team playing baseball, and he then tought he naturally was too be given the reigns of the realm. There was no doubt who was taking the last shot when MJ was on the team.

      I'm glad you noticed. I am getting tired of Gilbert acting like Coaching is easy. Michael Jordan made the same mistake when he said organizations don't win championships and he got first hand experience as an Owner that the Owner DOES HEAVILY INFLUENCE whether his organization can win championships.
      If you don't hire the right management, draft the right players, and hire the right coach and trade for the right players...you ain't winning ANYTHING. My main issue is people try to separate and downgrade specific pieces....not realizing that getting rid of a bench player that can keep the locker room peaceful could turn a team into turmoil.
      Look at the Warriors, they won a title and one dispute that went viral and public impacted their entire season. EVERYTHING matters when it comes to winning you can't separate ANYTHING.

    • @tribalypredisposed
      @tribalypredisposed ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ralx225b The Warriors had the biggest increase in win percentage for a rookie coach in NBA history, and they won the ring, with pretty much the same team they had the year prior, so people need to stop it with not giving Kerr his due respect and credit. Yes, he got hired to coach a team with great talent, a great coach knows enough to only go to such a team. But Marc Jackson had two recent all-stars in David Lee and Iggy, and two of the best shooters to ever live in Curry and Klay, and the Warriors were league average on offense and dead last in passes per game. With Bogut and Draymond both having great passing skills.
      Yes, it takes owners willing to pay to keep great talent, able to identify and hire a great coach, a GM able to draft and trade well, and a locker room that comes together and is willing to put egos aside to win.
      But coaches are not given enough credit or blame generally. Butler should have a stack of rings, he would if he did not have to play for so many years under bad coaches. Wiggins was blamed for the awful defensive coaching of his coaches until he got to the Warriors and showed he is a defensive stud. Draymond was a freaking bench player under Mark Jackson. Aaron Gordon was seen as not living up to his draft spot until he got traded to Denver. Great players and great coaches need each other to get it done, to go get rings.

      @anthonyluangphasi8800 ปีที่แล้ว

      Coaching is the hardest job in sports, but the problem is, only 5 coaches AT BEST are providing a positive impact. 20 coaches are actively providing an overall negative impact. There is 5 coaches that are basically daycare managers who are could be capable of doing more, but we need to see more.

    A great coach may earn the right to not "coach" the star, but your average coach is going to F bleep up by trying to coach that star, trying to be "in charge," and just not getting out of his way. People forget that Marc Jackson had two of the best shooters to ever live on his team (and David Lee and Iggy with all-star appearances in 2013 and 2012 respectively) and managed to make the Warriors literally league average on offense. Curry did not magically make himself way better from 2013-14 to 2014-15, mostly that WAS Steve Kerr.
    Also, give Kerr his props man. Six Finals in nine years and four rings, going 3-1 against teams with LeBron James. You can say anything you want about Kerr getting a talented team to coach, it is still like someone going 3-1 against MJ in his prime, and if someone had done that you all would not be making excuses about what great talent that coach had on his team.

      Agreed. Phil handled MJ, Pip and Rodman’s ego. If you will only use the Last Dance he don’t need to coach MJ cause they have built the relationship and the system and culture is now set. As for Kerr, he get hate for having the GS superteam but not every coach can handle that. They act like coaching is just about play call and games. Coaching also entails managing the roster.

      Kobe and MJ NEVER won without Phil Jackson, that needs to be put into the equation. Kerr is about to run through this FIBA World Cup with a young, fairly less talented team than the one that got 7th place in the last WC, because he instilled that unselfish DNA and ball movement that is patent on every team he coaches and the success has been undeniable. This doesn't need to be EITHER/OR

    MJ and Kobe are exeptions to being coached.
    Current NBA stars are different. They are young enough to realise that is critical moments, they should follow the coach. But their ego will not allow them to accept that knowledge. They think they can go hero ball 1-on-1 and win.

    I feel like there is context missing with what gil is saying.
    Orl- grant hill was injury prone and was not the same level of talent as he was in Detroit. T-Mac was on the come up from Toronto so really his first all star level yrs were there so would you really expect them to win a championship. The answer is no. Just making the playoffs was good because they weren't that good after Shaq left anyway.
    Celtics - they appeared in 2 finals.
    None of the big three were physically in there prime so up to this point he has not coached a superstar level player. In there primes I would say KG is the best all around player and Paul was the more versatile scorer. What helped them win was rondo being able to add def and play making out of the point guard spot . Allowing the big three to take on there roles better. But the team wasn't exactly a great offensive team and coach tibs as a def coach probably had greater impact than coach Doc because the team fits his defensive mentality.
    Clippers - cp3 constantly gets injured and Blake. Neither of them are elite scoring talents. As a clipper fan I would say I don't think he coached Blake properly but the only way we would of even got to the championship is if most of the best players got hurt and are team was healthy.
    Sixers- let's be real sixers messed up when they kept Harris and Ben Simmons. Clearly overpaid Harris multi times at that. Ben clearly wasn't suited for that Philly crowd. I would blame him for not fighting to keep a Jimmy Butler but otherwise I never personally thought embids was going to win a title and I've always favored jokic point/Center style over embids forward/center style of play. Plus with the injuries. You could make the case embids is the best player he has ever had in terms of scoring and overall ability but probably not the best leader I'd say KG.
    To me a superstar on the court and when talk Pantheon great is someone that is both finals and regular season MVP.
    So by my standards he has never had one of thoughts coming in and generally he has had 3 situations
    A developing star, old stars, or injury prone stars.
    I don't think he is a great x and O's coach or defensive coach so I'm not big on calling him Hof coach
