Hi Abbie, your bear is so sweet it’s no wonder your mum loved it 🥰. Loving your advent projects. I’ve only done a couple of socks but was told using 2 sets of needles is easier and I pinch it to the stitch on the other side so the first couple of stitches are tighter xx

The bear is so lovely, well wishes to your mum.
I have a particular way of positioning my cable when doing magic loop which helps a lot for me, I don't seem to get ladders like I used to. It might be difficult to explain, if I can get my daughter or other half to take some pictures, I'll forward them on.
The cable that's attached to my right hand needle I have coming from the live stitches on the right, curling round to the left in an anticlockwise loop to the bottom of the right hand needle. By doing this I can have the right hand needle close to the stitches that have just been worked and moved round the loop. When you then knit the stitches from the left, there's less of a gap.
I hope this makes sense, I will try and get some pictures 😊

To prevent the ladders, I slide the stitch somehow, so that is snugs up to the last stitch on the first needle. I'll see if I can film it for you. Its different to tightening the yarn and a bit hard to explain! X
