    Watching you draw those maps, Helen brought back fond memories of map drawing as a child. I loved doing that, colouring them in, adding rivers and other landmarks. We also used plastic templates for different countries, and each was a different colour. A little trip down memory lane for me. Thank you.

      Helen did that to me too... she showed the segment on catching butterflies and I remembered my childhood and my hometown. So lovely to be taken back to that pleasant time!

      Thank you, Emma - it's lovely the way simple things can bring back happy memories! Drawing and colouring maps is the only thing I really enjoyed in Geography lessons at school maybe because I found it very relaxing, even back then! xx

    Morning Helen. Thanks for the packed episode this week. Enjoyed everything as usual. Your mum a beautiful job of the seat organiser, bet it will be very useful. Cute camper fabric on all the bags. The map drawing reminded me of something we did in a project at primary school. Wow , yummy looking cake, pineapple is one of my favourites. I am looking forward to seeing your latest adventure.
    We had a lovely break away last week. Northumberland is beautiful. We stayed in Thropton in a lovely farmhouse b&b. We visited Cragside and really enjoyed the house and gardens. Enjoyed the riverwalk in Rothbury. Also, a fantastic little artisan shop in the village centre. Beamish was a great experience, and we loved it. Definitely will be visiting again. We packed so much in. Even visited Lucy Locket on the way home. Hopefully, next time, we can arrange to meet up.
    Back to reality this week, with 2 hospital appointments.
    Have a great week, take care. Xx

      Hi Angela, and thank you! Of course, 'seat organiser' is what I shall call the new storage "thing" ( I just couldn't think what to call it!) It was lovely to hear about your Northumbrian holiday and I'm so glad that you enjoyed everything you did - they are all places that I love, including Lucy Locketland's shop! If you return to the North east, do let me know and hopefully we can meet up! I hope that all goes well with your appointments this week. Take care xxx

    Loved every segment of your video this week. Your mother made a beautiful job of the seat back organizer! Your cake looked so moist and yummy. I would definitely bake it if I weren't diabetic! Your knitted orangutan is cute. I bet those fingers were so fiddly, but worth the extra effort. Looking forward to your next campervan trip. Have a great week.

    It's fun to have fabric that matches the adventure or season! The seat organizer is awesome. You did a great job problem solving.
    I think I enjoy the preparations almost as much as taking the trip. I love to make lists and organize my things. I would guess that with each trip you find it easier and quicker to be ready to go. I would bake something to take along, too. But probably brownies or cookies. Those are my go to treats.
    I was noticing that Pearl has fingers and I wondered if it was easier to make her hands or the monkey (ok, how does one spell aurangatang? I can't even get the auto correct to pull it up🤔😆).
    I enjoyed your video, as I always do. The bin lorry. Keeping it real!😁 that's funny thinking of you sitting in your driveway in the campervan talking to the camera. I love it. Keep up the good work. See you next week!

    • @mousiemakespod
      @mousiemakespod  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Karen. I agree, preparing for a trip, and the anticipation of going away on a new adventure, is almost as enjoyable as the trip itself, and we are certainly getting faster at gathering everything together now that we've been away in the campervan quite a few times. My son is a big fan of baking brownies and cookies - so sometimes he makes us some to take away with us! You're right - Pearl has fingers too (oh, and the spelling you're looking for is 'orangutan') but they were actually a lot fiddlier than the orangutan's hands. I did think it was quite funny that I was sitting on the drive in the campervan, especially when the bin lorry came along with its rude interruption! xx

    A lovely chat Helen. Your mum is very clever (and very nice :) to make your camper van chair back organizer. It’s just ideal! And a loo roll bag - much nicer isn’t it ? Map drawing - I’ve been amazed at your map drawing skills - now I know your secret 😎. Still a lot of work, your maps are lovely. I hope you are enjoying your few days away. Will look forward to hearing all about the trip. I think I would always have an easy blanket project with me so I could zone out at times, and not have to think. Making clothes for dolls is quite fiddly I think? I’m sure your hands have been busy. Chat soon.

    All fascinating! Looking forward to your Scottish Island hopping. I've been to Scotland lots of times but the only island I've visited is Arran which I went to on a school geography field trip for a week. I loved it but not the youth hostel! Yes, I've heard that about fruit cakes and that particular one about Scott. People used to save the top tier of the wedding cake for their first born's christening, didn't they? If I'd done that, mine would still be sat here nearly 40 years later! I've got a recipe for a fruit cake with chopped pineapple. It's in an M&S cookbook. I'm sure that's done in a pan, too. I always love your videos... they seem to invoke all these memories for me! 🥰

      Thank you - and I shall look forward to sharing our Scottish island-hopping with you in a few weeks. In the meantime, I've just finished making a video about the trip we've just been on, to the Scottish Borders. Yes, Arran is a lovely place but I know what you mean about the youth hostel - although youth hostels are very different to when I used them years ago! I wonder if my fruit cake recipe originally came from that M&S book... it's a lovely cake, anyway! It's amazing how long some fruit cakes can last, isn't it? I;m glad to have brought you some happy memories. See you again soon! xx

    Thank you so much for this lovely video and especially for the mention. I'm very excited to see a maker who is as in love with Cinthia Vallet's book as me! Also great that you're keen to make that cowl!
    I love to see your little (or not that little) Henri emerging. I can only imagine how fiddly those fingers are! Wow you are very patient!
    I really enjoyed the baking segment too, I also love baking but my family were not that much into it until recently (my youngest is 19 months and she only now started to eat such stuff and my husband doesn't like cakes!) I would love to try that recipe in the future, thanks a lot for sharing it with us!
    Oh and most of all thank you for showing how you did the skirt! Wow that is so much easier, I will definitely try it for my Piggie.

    My friend stayed with me for a couple of days and I showed her the book (online) and your animals. She immediately fell in love with the donkey and said she is going to knit it. We saw the orangutan in the book and low and behold you are making him. He is gorgeous. His hands are wonderful. The yarn is perfect and I feel he is with us even though he is not finished yet. Pearl of course looks great in her summer outfit, lets hope summer comes soon!! Your project bags sit so well in the van as does your mum's wonderful make. I shall be making your cake this week as a fruit cake is just what we need. Delia's book is falling to bits in my house, but I don't want to buy a new one and need to write my favourite recipes in my own recipe book. See you next time. xx. Hi Helen. Those hands are amazing! Could the fingers be made by making i-cords? When you did the chain stitch on your little sample, why did you say not to go back to the same place as the used when the chain was started. When I do “regular” embroidery chain stitch, I always go back to the same place where the yarn came out. Is there something different with embroidery on knitting? Campervan storage pocket has worked out fabulously! Can’t wait for the new trip. (Can you tell me why your fruitcake tin is covered with brown paper or a thermal lining before it goes in the office. See you next time. Salam wa sa’aadah

    • @mousiemakespod
      @mousiemakespod  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Linda. Yes, I think that icords would definitely work for the fingers of orangutan's hands! You were very observant when watching my chain stitch, and you're right - usually when I do chain stitch, I do go back into the same place and I'm not quite sure why I didn't do that on the knitting - next time I do it, I will have to notice to see if there was a reason for it! I'm very pleased with the seat organiser for the campervan - and I shall look forward to sharing our upcoming adventures!
      I think it must have been my mum who taught me to wrap layers of brown paper around a fruit cake while it's being baked - I think it's to try and prevent the edges of the cake from overcooking and drying out too much, because a fruitcake is usually in the oven for quite a lot longer than normal cakes. And when I spotted the special wrapper to use for baking, I thought it would be a bit easier than using paper, and it did seem to work well. See you next time! xx
