Hi there I have just started watching your lates podcast and I cannot tell how much I look forward to each new episode. You are both so positive and inspiring! I am watching you out here in the UAE where I work ( I am doctor) and we are currently experiencing a very hot summer with temperatures reaching the high forties! I do a lot of crochet but I am very keen to learn knitting as well ! I always used to think it is much more complicated than crochet but watching the lovely projects you do ,makes me very keen to give it a go. I am hoping to join as a Patreon in the future as well.

Hope your air conditioning is working. Talcum powder helps combat sweaty hands when crocheting and knitting.

I myself used to be a crocheter with knitting fear too but a year ago I started knitting socks and I just love knitting. Recently I started knitting my first top down sweater, a real challenge. I think knitting gives more possibilities for creating garments. So give it a try with a small project. Good luck!

Thank you for this wonderful upload. I am german and my family and I have been to Tirol in my youth many times. It brings back so many memories. We used to lodge in a small town called Niederndorf, not far away from Kufstein. Kufstein is a real treasure and it is called the "pearl" of Tirol. (Die Perle Tirols). There is an medieval castle on top of the mountain in the middle of the city and every day at noon time the "Hero Organ" plays. (Die Heldenorgel). 🙂 So awesome. When I was younger, we also stayed at a place called Schoppernau. 🙂 We used to mountaineer in the Kaisergebirge (emperors mountains), visited the "Elmauer Tor" etc. Elmau is famous for the film location of "Der Bergdoktor" (The Mountain Doctor). 🙂 My grandpa, who looked just like the famous mountaineer Lois Trenker, and my dad were avid rock climbers back in the day. I love those folk evenings and all of the traditional musik, clothing and all of it. Andrea, you must wear your Dirndl anyway. Be a pionier for it and make the germans wear theirs again too, not just at the Oktoberfest, lol, back on Sundays, parties, festivals, etc. Love, love, love. My son recently requested, that I knit him one of those traditional german vests (Trachtenweste), the sleeveless version, with metall buttons (Trachtenknöpfe). I am almost finished. So much fun.
Huggs from the Schurwald in Baden-Württemberg. 🙂

An excellent knitting lesson from Joji and Andrea….it teaches you to think before you plunge in to your project; ask yourself - do I have the right yarn, can I really get the row gauge for the yoke sweaters, do I need to make adjustments for my body and will that change the amount of yarn required? Step back and plan for your next garment. Many thanks for this discussion.

Thank you for this lovely and informative interview! I love Joji's designs and have even done multiples of a few. I realized I haven't properly understood the importance of yoke depth. After watching this, I measured yoke depth on my current WIPs and realized I needed to make a few adjustments. Now that I understand this key measurement, I won't have to just hope my garments fit properly!

Hearing Joji makes me very nostalgic for my own childhood. I was born in Chile but raised in Australia from age of 4.5, but my mother’s closest friends were Argentinian along with Chilean family friends. And my grandmother would also swap knitting patterns with my mother via mail.
    My mum still knits.
    I went more into crochet.
The way my mother and grandmother (and therefore my older sister and I) knit is not really compatible with the majority of English language patterns- turns out, we orient our stitches the opposite way on our needles. Trying to force myself to knit the “proper” way (ie knit stitches from the front part of the stitch, rather than what I’ve always done which is knit into the back of the stitch from the front l) ends up disastrously.
I have become a passionate crocheter as I love the variety of stitches and the ease of only working on one live stitch at a time.
I still remember many of my childhood jumpers (sweaters) made by my mum and grandmother. Often mum just finds a photo of inspiration and she just magically seems to be able to make it!
Just wanted to add that even though I’m a crocheter, Joji’s advice on garment fitting & modifications is just as applicable for me. Fabulous content, as always.

I just ADORE everything you put out (just finished watching the Tyrolean evening program, so much FUN) - and I am equally happy to hear that you have some well-deserved vacation time coming up. I am a rehab physician and for each of our patients there are therapy sessions only 6 days a week, that is intentional as doing something 7 days a week (or month after month without a break) leaves out the important need for rest and rejuvenation. So happy you will each have a rejuvenating activity coming up. Can't wait to see you in February!
