The first season of the American superhero television series The Boys, the first series in the franchise based on the comic book series of the same name written by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, was developed for television by American writer and television producer Eric Kripke. The season was produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Point Grey Pictures, Original Film, Kripke Enterprises, Kickstart Entertainment and KFL Nightsky Productions.
The first season of the series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Kapon, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, and Elisabeth Shue. The story takes place in a universe where most of the superpowered individuals are recognized as superheroes, but in reality abuse their powers for personal gain, information the public is kept unaware of. The series follows the eponymous Boys (led by Billy Butcher), a group of vigilantes looking to bring down Vought International and expose its corrupt superheroes. When his girlfriend is accidentally killed by A-Train, Hughie Campbell joins the Boys to get revenge against the Seven. Meanwhile, Annie January is forced to face the truth about those she admires, after she joins the Seven, led by Homelander. The Boys attempt to stop Vought from receiving government support for superheroes by uncovering the company's secrets. When Hughie and Annie begin a romantic relationship, the conflict is muddled despite the two of them initially being unaware of each other's affiliations.

I adore Starlight, Huey, and a couple of characters yet to come… I actually really like Homelander only because the actor does such an incredible job
Fun fact: the design of Hughie in the comics was based on Simon Pegg, so having him play Hughie’s dad was kinda a cool homage

You guys are in for a treat. This show is one of the rare occurrences where the adaptation far surpasses the source material. The acting, cadence of the story and the sublime characters are chefs kiss.

The way Annie/Starlight spoke about her r*pe by Deep was very realistic, both the struggle with telling her mom and how disappointed she was in herself for freezing up/not fighting. Scenes like that need more air to breathe, but I'm glad we got it given how common of an experience assault is for women. Men, too, but women are assumed to be asking for it, etc.
Never understood why she didn't catch the Deep's bluff about being in charge.

In my opinion this is one of the scariest shows I've ever seen not because of any horror elements but because of how close to reality some of the subject matter is
The show runner (Eric Kripke) has said on twitter that he will use current events/mixed with comic storylines to “ground” the show.
Even said that January 6th on the U.S Capital will be tied in.

In my opinion, The Boys does for the superhero genre what the original Robocop did for the 80s action movie. A brilliant fusion of satire of both the genre itself as well as big picture sociopolitical issues, while also just being a fantastic thrill ride with refreshingly interesting and fleshed out characters.
Prepare yourselves for the completely and perfectly chaotic world of The Boys and to be blown away by Anthony Starr‘s stellar performance as Homelander.
Antony Starr is probably the biggest reason I keep watching this show. Captivating, edge of my seat performance. He's amazing. Also loved him in Banshee. Karl Urban is another phenomenal performer. Such a blast!
This series has one of the most scary villains in such an unexpected way… it’s disturbing and so much fun!!! Already looking forward to you reaction to some specific scenes!!!
I know fully well that Homelander does not exist, and yet I'm terrified of him. He is one of thee most horrifying anti heroes ever created and Antony Starr does a scary ass job at it.

Anthony Starr (Homelander) is incredible. The whole cast just vibes with the craziness of the source material. And you're in for three seasons of this. Brace for impact.

after you said you didn’t think they could get as invincible level graphic in a live action, knowing that you would be putting this out soon… I waited with literally baited breath for this episode to drop for the facial expressions and thoughts at the end
You guys may have missed the parody in the meeting introducing Elizabeth Shue's character. The hero she was trying to offer "Nubian Prince" is their version of Black Panther. "Caucasian's love him too!" And the joke about taking up the offer made by Atlanta is a tongue in cheek as that is where most of the Black Panther movie was filmed.

It's so interesting watching a group of men react to the scene with Starlight and the Deep, where he drops his pants. As a woman, I was immediately creeped tf out and scared for her. It's interesting that all of you laughed. I suppose it's onen of those differences in perspective
Agreed. He forced her to give him a blow job. Most men reacting laugh and take it as a joke. When it's serious and sexual assault that fucks people up. Not sure if he forced her to go further than that but either way, it's seriously messed up.
I think they stuck with describing it as "awkward" because a lot of terms surrounding the topic of "essay " and "grape" are on yt's nono list. But perhaps I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here. I would like to think that you don't need to be a woman to understand all of the factors involved in starlight's situation and why she feels so enraged afterwards. But I've been disappointed before. Some people simply can't grasp everything involved in a situation and the aftermath unless they've personally been in that situation themselves.
Was looking for a comment like this, was taken aback that their reaction to a woman (fictional or not) being SA'd was laughter....
I found this channel not a long time ago and binged almost all of their videos and very quickly got to like them and their opinions, but their reaction to this scene was shocking to me, I've seen a lot of other reactions from both men and women and none of them were laughing. I got a weird feeling from watching this video🫤

Homelander's actor is so good in this first episode, he really played us lol His voice is warmer, his posture calm and confident, it's almost strange to not see his strained smiles here because, in my opinion, they are one of the character define points haha

This show is shocking and gross and dark and disturbing but the acting is absolutely fantastic across the board, especially Antony, Karl and Jack. It just gets better from here. More….everything. More shocking… more gross…more dark and more disturbing. You will get addicted and by the season 3 finale you will be like the rest of us….chomping at the bit for the next season! Try not to speculate or try to guess what will happen and just enjoy the ride! Some of my fav parts of this reaction are things like you thinking maybe Homelander is this really nice guy despite some of the memes out there that say otherwise. Carl Urbane was Dr. Bones McCoy in the J.J. Abrams versions of Star Trek. He was so perfect acting the role, Leonard Nemoy started crying. Simon Pegg is in them too as Scotty. THOSE are some films you should check out!!

When I first watched the show, I think what shocked me was not the violence, but the realization that if superheroes were real, this would be not far from the truth of how they would operate. They wouldn't have much regard for human lives, it would be all about public image and profit.

Jack Quaid, Antony Starr and Karl Urban's acting in this is some of the best acting i have ever seen.
If you're a fan of Tony Starr, the series Banshee is brutal & interesting as well. I remember him in the kiwi series Outrageous Fortune way back in the early 2000s & was thrilled to see him make it big. he's a brilliant actor.
