The miracle here is that the ukrainans have lost "only" 80.000 or so soldiers so far (according to Zelensky) and the russians have lost +700.000(!!) soldiers in combat - this phenomenon will be studied for many years to come in military studies.

Few years ago I went along to small military museum at Holyhead Anglesea. His dress uniform was on display. I think he was awarded the VC for his heroism. Once the CO went down it got the lads moving again. A battalion strength of 649 men trying to take a force of 3000 Argentina’s amazing feat of arms. Spared on by H jones bravery! We are slowly seeing a shift in the war. Putin has decreased the payouts for soldiers getting disabled by 30 times indicating the kremlin is running out of money.
Putin has closed the stock exchange indicating a big inflation problem.
Gazprom is making a loss thus unable to fund this special military operation for much more than a year longer.
The biggest housing developer in Russia has gone bankrupt.
Mortgage rates in Russia are at 30% making it extremely unaffordable for ordinary people to afford housing thus homelessness will rise for decades to follow. This will put a strain on the economy.
Putin has not mobilized more troops despite him obviously wanting to, there are not enough people to build the ammo, he needs people to build military equipment too - this is why we are seeing North Korean equipment and troops arriving now. It's just a sign that Russia is struggling. How much longer can the ordinary russian not able to afford their rent or food to continue supporting this pointless war.
Lets not forget there is nothing existential about it. It's just pure fun for Russians to believe this war is a good idea. What is existential to their survival is putting an end to this war. That is a losing strategy however you want to frame it.
But most importantly, for the first time this month we are seeing a real shift on the battlefield. No longer are Russia able to send dozens of tanks in to attacks. They have run out of MLRS systems too so are relying on older less efficient artillery systems.
Russia will grind on, but instead of turning the front to rubble and then rolling in to stick a flag on some totally destroyed bricks they are having to send infantry in to attack without as much air and artillery support as they were able to up till now.
Losses have increased by 50% for Russia in the past month as a result. They are still grinding on but people are needed to run the economy and they cannot continue for ever, we are seeing the shift by now.
Of course new tanks are being built every day still so a handful of tanks will still be sent to the front every day but nothing like the numbers we have seen in the past. I totally agree the times do talk a lot when nothing new is there to be reported on but putins propaganda is being unravelled every day and people are slowly starting to realize what a monumental failure this entire operation has turned out to be and the catastrophic price ordinary russians will be paying for decades to come.

If the USA or UK wanted to intervene directly - now that would be a logistics nightmare.
There is a big problem now trying to do big offensives and that's the ubiquitous surveillance .
All sides have to be careful to move troops and supplies in small quantities because otherwise they get destroyed well behind the front lines.

Why wouldn't Ukraine expect to get all of its sovereign territory back? Not to do so would mean that the rest of the world 1) Does not take seriously any internationally recognized borders. 2) Shows its inability to honour any agreements previously made to protect Ukraine in case of an attack, and 3) admit Ruzzia's superiority when it is pitted against both US and Europe. Is that how history will judge the West and is the West OK with that?

GEN Jones gave a good analysis at an overview level. He did not do a NATO quality AAR (After Action Review) even for a public consumption level. This is sad because it omits the issues driving towards a peace plan or cease fire plan.
The AAR part can find HUGE faults on both Ukrainian and Russian Military Commands. Let me analyze Ukrainian then Russian mistakes.
Ukrainian Military Command did NOTHING to prepare for an attack from Crimea. This is an Organizational failure of both political and military Leaders. Every Oblast in Ukraine needs a National Guard. In Kherson Oblast, for example, Kherson City and Melitopol can both support Brigade Commands each with 4 Battalions of 4 Companies. After 2014, the Federal Military should have put another Brigade on the Crimean border with a Division Command in Melitopol to supervise the National Guard Brigades if federalized. A barrier border of water obstacles, minefields, and trench networks should have been built in layers from the border to Melitopol, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and the 3 bridges across the Dnipro River. This was a huge failure.
The Ukrainian Military did allow US/UK/Canadian Advisors train up the Ukrainian NCO Corps to NATO quality while dropping all Soviet training habits. This helped at the Squad and Platoon Levels and positively impacted some Company Level Operations.
The Officer Corps was NOT trained up to NATO quality. Right now Ukraine has about 12-15 Brigade Commanders who can successfully fight on Defense. Of these, only 4-5 can also fight Offense Operations. Worst, there are NO Commanders or Staff at Division or Corps Level required to conduct successful Offensive Operations to scale.
This is all on GEN Zaluzhny’s Leadership failures. He had 3 years to organize the Ukrainian Military in Defense preparations in depth and did virtually nothing. He had no training plan for Units in western Ukraine to reorganize into NATO Unit Organization. He could have simultaneously started training the Officers of these Inits in NATO schemes of maneuver and combat. Only now under GEN Syrskyi is this occurring with his new Brigades filled with successful battle tested Officers and NCOs.
Russian Military Command failures are beyond comprehension. The 3 most glaring failures are all about knowing what to avoid. For example, Russia is a Chess Master country. Chess success usually involves controlling the center of the board. If applied to the Ukrainian battlefield, this means capturing Dnipro City and Zaporizhzhia City were critical Objectives. But Russians did not follow chess logic in their attacks. Russians diluted the Combat Force on multiple fronts. They expected a Prague Spring Operation and got a Finnish Winter War Operation. This was avoidable.
The 2 other Russian failures all relate to the 1ST failure. At Mariupol, the Russians wasted many Units for many months trying to completely conquer this City. Why? It takes far less Units to control escape from Mariupol, while the Main Force bypasses to head to Dnipro City.
Likewise, Russians diverted their main attack from Crimea to capture Kherson City which was dependent on 3 critical bridges for supplies. Only a token force of a few Units should have been risked to capture Kherson City. The main push should have been to capture Zaporizhzhia City.
If I were President Zelensky, I would agree to a land bridge to Crimea, if Kursk territory could be exchanged for a corridor to Melitopol. Additionally, any Ukrainians in Occupied Ukraine must be allowed free passage to Ukraine controlled territory if they want to move.
