    Small Tipp 👍 Roll from the Front to the Back (where the Pockets are) so the Wind don’t pushes Rain into the Roll while driving. It can leak if not rolled enough times.
    😣 happened to me on a tour once. Not a Brampton but still … same Principle.

      Thanks Sean. I think equivalent bags like Vincita are the same price if not even more expensive. It looks like a really well made bag and time will tell but I think it will last quite a few years like my old T-Bag did.

    Very nice and thorough review! I own an S-bag and was thinking about upgrading to the newer model in olive, medium size. Unfortunately it lacks many outside organization pockets and, most importantly, it doesn’t have the two large pockets on the back which I use all the time in my S-bag. So, even if I don’t really need all that space I might opt for the large Borough. It’s very pretty!

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a solid bag. My only wish is that they kept the outside netting space of the original t-bag. It had slightly more space to fit food and stuff you want to easily reach.

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This one looks a bit more stylish, bigger rear pockets, larger zipped compartment and padded on the inside is better than single small pocket on T-bag. Front mesh on T bag was useful but this one has a similar compartment which can be secured. Bottle pocket to me was useful but I will get used to. If durability will be the same, personally this is an overall nicer bag. Thanks!

    Hi Gianni, just learnt from your video you're planning your Scotland tour? As I lived in Edinburgh for some time, curious to know what route you planning to follow? Are you planning the North Coast 500- starting from Inverness through the highlands and finishing at Inverness? If not the North Coast 500 how far north you are planning to go? Let me know if you will be passing Preston or any town along M61 west of Manchester.

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Shah. Yes, planning the North Coast 500. As you mentioned it I suppose it is a good choice for a ride in Scotland? I was planning North of England instead which would have taken me around Manchester but now will be going further North. Hopefully will do that another time! Many thanks.

      Official dimensions are 400 mm (w) x 300 mm (h) x 200 mm (d) but bearing in mind it has a rolltop you can really make the most of the space and I would be surprised if a laptop can't find a good place in it.

    I've often wondered whether the V-shaped strap at the front of the Borough Roll Top Bag would allow you to securely strap your tent (or some other bulky object) externally at the front of the bag. If so, that would be very practical and would presumably increase the capacity of the bag (without having to improvise with bungee cords, which would be the other way of doing this). Is that feasible, Gianni, and if so have you tried it?

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, I have not tried it yet in that way. In order to have so much slack on the strap though I think it would mean that the bag is not full in the first place? If you make good use of the bag the strap doesn't have that much space for something large. Also if you had something hanging there it would be falling off each time you open the bag. This bag actually has some webbing straps you could use with bunjee chords if you wish to attach things on the outside, maybe that can be tried too? For the tent my favourite place is attached to the seat post with a compression bag that has some straps or the tent bag itself with a couple of bunjee chords or good velcro straps. Many thanks.

    Thank you for this very timely review! I am a new Brompton owner and have been looking for a bag that I can both use to carry groceries and also to take bike camping. I have been having a horrid time with sticker shock! The bags are so expensive!
    I think one question I would ask is: does one need a waterproof bag for bike camping, or is the non-waterproof bag ok? I prefer the inside colour of the waterproof bag as it's bright and easier to see the interior - however it's much more expensive and it has different closures which seem more fiddly and less user friendly. Would love to hear your (or anybody else's!) opinion. Thank you.

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't have enough experience with this bag but it is in many ways similar to the T-Bag I have owned and toured for 8 years. When touring and camping a waterproof bag is necessary to keep the important stuff dry; this bag does it and the rain cover that comes with them is further protection for the worse of rainfalls. Personally I like the extra space and external pockets.The rain cover it comes with is tight and takes a bit of time to put on and take off. Personally I use cheap backpack rain covers ( Anything for a 40-45L backpack will fit these bags when fitted sideways and is much easier to install and remove ). If they seem expensive you are buying bags that with a little care last for many many years. Hope this helps.

    I bought the 25L waterproof version, it lacks the two side pockets and front pocket of the 28L but otherwise is the same. Difficult to decide between the two to be honest I have second thoughts after this video, I think the 28L is better value but I wanted waterproofing.

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it depends on how you use it. Both very good bags. For touring I am used to having external pockets for things that I want to access quickly but also to increase a little the volume of what I can carry. I do like the colour of the 25L better and the light orange of the inside which makes things quicker to find. Thanks

      I have the 28 l bag and like it overall. But I regret a bit not getting the 25 l waterproof one, the orange waterproof cover included with the 28 l bag is a hassle to put on and if it is put on I cannot easily access the contents anymore. When I skipped using the cover because I thought it would only rain a little and soon stop raining I had significant amounts of water seep in several times. On my other bicycle I always use Ortlieb bags and never have to worry about water getting in. I didn't get the 25 l waterproof bag only because I wanted the extra 3 l capacity, but now I think this was a mistake as I discovered that I can have 5 l extra capacity by attaching a VauDe trailmulti bag to the backside of the Brompton stem. The trailmulti bag is intended to be mounted on fork blades of big wheeled bicycles but it fits perfectly on the backside of the Brompton stem. And it is waterproof as well.

      @@mfabian1963 Hi Mike! I know what you mean by the cover. It was the same on the T-Bag and for a few years I have used a cheap rain cover which fits both the front bag and I use one on my backpack too, same size. They are perfect for both as the opening on the front bag is towards you and you fix it with an elastic strap that clips. Unlike the rain covers provided it takes a second to cover the bag and you also can access the pockets towards you as there is a small opening. It still covers everything and I have used them for years and they never let water in on rainy days. On the front bag it fits the bag sideways but nobody would notice :) You need the L size one which fits a 45L backpack too. www.amazon.co.uk/Waterproof-LAMA-Reflective-Anti-Theft-Activities/dp/B07DXZXGBY/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=thorfire+cover&qid=1623441471&sr=8-3

    I prefer the original Carradice T bag with the wrap around front mesh to carry stuff, very robust and easy to carry stuff. The mesh goes around the whole bag sides so you can store water bottles etc in it's external side pockets. The roll top pockets on the back are the best design imho, no zips or poppers to fail. Although the original Carradice T bag is not waterproof it is highly water resistant and I have never experienced rain water getting inside. I have two waterproof covers for it which I use in heavy rain and everything remains totally dry inside. Also the original T bag has an ALL steel frame, no plastic and is VERY strong and robust. It can carry a very heavy weight. Trust me I know. I was very lucky to find a 2nd hand one, pretty much in new condition on Ebay recently which I bought as a spare as they are not made any more for a long time. I bought it mainly for the ALL steel frame. I would say the original roll top T bag can carry 40 litres stuffed full to the brim although Brompton state 31litres. I have often thought of getting a newer T bag or Borough bag like the one Gianni reviews here, but as nice as they are, and I am sure they are, they just don't seem to be as good or as practical or as robust as the original Carrradice T bag. Simple is best. Mine is still going strong after nearly 20 years. 2004 I bought it with my first Brompton which was sadly stolen when I visited London. The bag wasn't stolen as I had the T bag with me.

    • @2Bikes4Adventure
      @2Bikes4Adventure 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We can vouch for the robustness of the older (all metal) frame as we just broke a plastic one during a recent long distance touring trip. We suspect plastic was introduced to lower manufacturing cost (not to improve impact survivability)

    • @alexmorgan3435
      @alexmorgan3435 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2Bikes4Adventure Just as I thought. How did you manage with the broken frame? Were you still able to carry the T bag on the Brompton front touring block or was it that plastic mount of the T bag that broke/failed? If so how did you carry the bag as IME when full they can be pretty heavy? Well mine is. I guess it could have been a real PITA. Hopefully it wasn't the end of your tour. Have you been able to repair it or have you had to buy a new frame/bag or was it replaced under warranty?
      Do you know if Brompton have changed the actual mounting block material over the years? I know mine is heavy duty moulded black plastic but it has never given me cause for concern. Just thought if this failed or the bolts securing it, then it really could be end of tour not to mention a sudden failure could possibly cause a serious accident, injury or death if it suddenly literally parted company with the frame/bike for instance descending a steep mountain pass or just riding in an urban environment amongst traffic?
      Totally agree on your comment that Brompton did it to reduce the manufacturing cost of the bag which was bad of them. If Brompton had kept the ALL steel metal frame then I would maybe buy a newer one but would like the back vertical storage pockets to also have roll top closures as the original. No zips or poppers to fail. I was really lucky recently that the old but new condition Carradice T bag came up on Ebay. I bought it so if my original one that is still going strong ever breaks or fails which I don't think it ever will, nearly 20 years old now and still going strong, I have a spare.
      Thanks for your reply and confirming what I suspected.

    • @2Bikes4Adventure
      @2Bikes4Adventure 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexmorgan3435 , The bag frame basically split in two (vertically) following a low velocity fall of the bicycle. The only thing holding it together was the top plastic handle. We were away from any stores that could provide a replacement. We used zip-ties to keep the two halves together and were able to complete the trip (at somewhat slower speed, mindful of cracks and bumps on the road).
      A metal frame would not have fractured, but then again, maybe the luggage block mounting bolts could have sheared (we will never know).
      Incidentally, on that same trip, we met a subscriber/Brompton tourer (with a T-Bag) who had just sheared those same bolts a few days earlier while going downhill. There was (luckily) no injury involved.

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree Alex. I do like the new Borough Bag but the older T-Bag was sturdier and more functional. I believe mine was Radical Design though, not Carradice? I like the next that was going all around it. Borough bag has some netting to the side too but I found the material to be fragile and anything sharp can punch a hole through it easily. Not had any other issues with the frame though, it's been a solid bag too so far.

    I am interested to know if this is significantly smaller than the T bag. The quoted dimensions of 40 x 30 x 20 are a lot smaller than the 42 x 30 x 27 of the T bag. Particularly the 20cm Vs 27cm width I feel must make a big difference. Does anyone know if the quoted sizes are accurate?

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is slightly smaller. The main difference I noticed is that the old model had a longer strap which allowed to fill the bag right to the top and still secure it. This one must be rolled down a little or the strap want reach the buckle. Still plenty of room though.

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on the airline and how much you fill the bag. One thing that could help is at least remove the metal frame as that allows the bag to be more flexible and you could fit it in a smaller space. Budget airlines are usually quite strict on dimensions so you want to check the details of the airline you are using. Cheers
