- The origins of Hakata Station date back to 1889, around 600 meters north of its current residing position. The train industry was still in its early infancy stage resembling more of a tram that transported a few thousand people throughout the Hakata district.
As the city and population grew in 1963 the city decided to rebuild and expand the Hakata station. In 1975 Hakata station hosted the Sanyo Shinkansen (Bullet Train) followed by the connection of the Fukuoka Subway which was later connected in 1985.
In 2011 and after a 5-year, 24/7 a week, and around-the-clock re-construction undertaking with over 30k architects engineers, workers, and employees to have it operational in record time 2011 the newly rebuilt, redesigned, and much larger Hakata station (now officially Hakata City) finally re-opened and was subsequently connected to the JR Kagoshima line. Now with more than 130,000 people going through the station daily connecting people throughout Kyushu and beyond this traffic adds to the growth of new businesses as well as apartments as more people move closer to the city and station.
Hakata Station is one of the largest stations in Kyushu and a hub for connecting with all the other prefectures throughout Kyushu. Hakata is also famous for its wide selection of food, particularly ramen and udon, the station has over a dozen great shops to satisfy any ramen connoisseur's appetite.

I have fond memories of JR Hakata. In fact, behind that lovely big clock (maybe 4th & 5th floors) are a couple of excellent cafes with great food & excellent service, where I would visit to eat and write travel cards to send back home to family & friends.
I last visited Hakata station in 2009. I would love to go back
You really should, it’s not anything close to when you were last here. It’s always bustling, busy and hard to navigate, but always something fun to do.
I'm not sorry I missed all the "progress". I liked it better 64 years ago. I skated at the sports center, except during the sumo basho. Rode a steam powered train in the summer (windows down) through many tunnels? Married a girl from Hakata in 1962. Seeing all the changes makes me feel like someone stole my past. I've seen enough of Japan to say Kyushu is a true representation of a great country!

I’m originally from L.A. and I really understand your feelings, I went through the same thing for my generation, so much has changed and I feel sad sometimes when I go back and visit. Nice video. Thanks for posting. My only complaint is that there is a noticeable sound level disparity between your vocals and the music. As a result, it is very difficult to hear you unless the music is turned up to a high level.

you should have got on one of the trains and got off at Hakata , show how easy it is to take a train
Overkill, people can access the trains and should experience that for themselves.
