Indeed, it is very different from the original, first heard in a 1955 movie. It’s a prisoner’s song. The inmate dreams of reuniting with his beloved (‘Are you still mine?’, ‘wait for me, wait for me’, etc). It’s a nostalgic ballad. Bobby Hatfield reworked the music into something songful and turned the song into an hymn to yearning love. There have been hundreds of versions. Bobby’s the most famous and a milestone in pop music. Being classically trained he was able to wring every drop of verbal and vocal eloquence from the music and lyrics .@@Motbilder

His voice and vocal range WAS amazing! !960s technology audio system and microphone, no autotune or other modern assists, nothing but Bobby Hatfield's talent.

Best version hands down of this classic song. Absolutely loved the Righteous Brothers. Sadly we lost Bobby Hatfield about 20 years ago. He had a beautiful one of a kind voice. Home Free recently did a great version of this song. And Austin Brown also did a very beautiful tribute of this song about a year ago.
They were two incredibly talented 25yr old professional entertainers. Blue eyed soul. Many people don't realuze that Bobby had crazy bad stage fright and reportedly would get sick before every perfornance, the go out on stage as a true pro. Of note is that his mother was in the audience right behind him. 😊
He was doing this on a regular microphone with no auto tune. His mother was in the audience. He had a fabulous voice and The Righteous Brothers had some of the greatest songs on their albums! This was voted the best song of the 20th Century.
I was born in 1961 and as a young child i i sang this song and still do what you are watching is the best ever live performance ever 1965 by Bobby Hatfield what a voice pure raw talent and so sadly missed ❤
This was a favourite at ever high school prom ( slow dancing ) at at hundreds of weddings. To hear them both sing listen to their “ You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling “
You Lost that loving feeling, is another great song, with both singing. Both are fabulous singers. This was live on The Andy Williams Show, they sang other songs also. Great icons.
Highly recommend you look up Linda Ronstadt on Wikipedia, and check out who she is, and what she’s done as a singer. She sang rock, pop, country, folk, punk/new wave, light opera, old standards, even Latin/Mariachi! She did it all. Her voice was really something special.
The Righteous Brothers were popular when I was a teenager (the 60's) and they had many hits together and separately. This singer, Bobby, also did another love song called "Eb Tide" which is also beautiful, but together they were unique. One beautifully high and the other had a deep voice. Loved them.
Linda Ronstadt is someone you must hear. She was the first ever female singer to fill stadiums and arenas, and she sang in many diverse genres. I recommend Tracks of my tears, desperado, you’re no good, long long time, blue bayou… she’s done so much.
told you it was perfection. Now, you can go and watch his solo of 'Summertime' on YT, totally different experience--shows his great range, still perfection. The Righteous Brothers would sing as a duo and sometimes record solos'. This song was featured in the movie "Ghost". And congrats on the new baby and your future wedding!
you can tell that Bobby Hatfield was nervous before his song by the way he was a bit breathless during that first introduction party with Andy Williams. This song is perfection in my mind like some of the live YT videos of K D Lang singing Hallelujah. I love these reaction videos that are stunned by Bobby's voice at the very beginning of the song, it's like put on your seatbelt, it gets better and better and better.
Bobby Hatfield experienced stagefright, he had a little cold, his mother was in the audience to see him perform live for the first time, and he and Righteous Brother Bill Medley had just sung "Look At Me" immediately before that introductory chat. And then he gave that masterpiece performance of a lifetime. 🎶✨
I might be one of your oldest listeners (I'm 75). I've gotten a lot of pleasure from your videos on many topics. (BTW, I've traveled extensively in Europe - more than 50 times for both business and holiday but, sadly, I've never been to Portugal.) This song came out the summer between my junior and senior year in high school - I was 16). IMO, the video you watched was, possibly, the greatest live performance ever recorded. And yes, it was a consummate love song for all the young (and probably older) ladies of the time.
Keith i am right there with you. Turned 76 in 2024. We boomers grew up with some great music in the fifties and sixties IMO. Bobby was hands down the most phenomenal surprise we were gifted with.
72 here. This was a huge Vietnam War Era hit. Still reminds me of writing letters to my then boyfriend who was stationed in Viet Nam for two tours of duty. Miss the fabulous music we enjoyed, it will never be duplicated.
I'm 44, and I have heard this since I was a child, since it's from the 50s, and every time I do, I get chills. Amazing! By the way, this was written for the boys away at war. I think the U.S./Korean War.
It's from a movie called Unchained from 1955. Guy is in prison, his wife is getting tired of waiting, this song is asking her to wait a little longer. This performance was much better than the original.
I didn't want to correct you but I can't help it this song was made in 1955 and America was just starting the veitnam war in 1955 the Korean war started in 1950 and ended in 1953 its a veitnam song
A perfect moment in time captured on film for people to enjoy for all time. Bobby Hatfield makes you believe there are heavenly choirs. He could be up there right now singing his heart out like this. Righteous Brothers together was meant to be. Like your emotional reaction despite a bit of a language barrier. You really got the feelings Bobby wanted to get across.
Linda Ronstadt has sang more genres and styles than any other singer I can think of, by far. And she managed to sound great in all of them… Rock, pop, folk, country, blues, new wave, light opera, old standards, even Latin/Mariachi. She was so diverse, she’s amazing!
I grew up with this song and still get chills when I hear it. Yeah back then No Auto Tune. Now you need your listen to both of them. Soul and Inspiration and You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling
Unchained Melody: Bobby Hatfield live performance. The Andy Williams Show- Episode #4.5 Episode aired: Monday, Oct 25, 1965: Robert Lee Hatfield (August 10, 1940 - November 5, 2003) Bobby Hatfield, who had a higher countertenor voice to Bill Medley’s, William Thomas Medley (born September 19, 1940) baritone, sang lead on this track. It was his idea to record it, since Medley and Hatfield were each allowed to choose a song to sing as a solo vocalist on their albums. As Medley tells it, Hatfield knew the song well, and was a big fan of the Roy Hamilton and Al Hibbler versions of the song. *In Nov. 2003 Hatfield died of a heart attack at age 63. The Righteous Brothers version was a huge hit, but it was recorded with far more modest expectations. Phil Spector considered it album filler and released it as a B-side. The single had "Unchained Melody," with no producer credit on the label, as the flip to Gerry Goffin and Carole King's "Hung on You," but many DJs preferred "Unchained Melody" and played that one instead. This infuriated Spector, who subsequently left no doubt (actually calling DJs telling them to play “Hung On You” not “Unchained Melody “)as to which side of a Philles single was the A-side. * The famous climax of this song where Bobby Hatfield sings the high "I need your love" line wasn't how the song was written. In an interview with Bill Medley, he explained that Hatfield did two takes of the song, then left. He would often reconsider his performance and come back later to change it, and that's what he did on this track, returning to ask Medley if he could make an edit. This was no easy task, since with a maximum of four tracks to work with, you had to record over part of the original take, but Medley accommodated and Hatfield delivered that soaring vocal line. Said Medley: "I punched that in and before he left he said, 'No, I can do it better. ’And I said, 'No, you can't.' [Laughs] And I think it's a big part of that song." * This was released on Philles Records, Phil Spector's label. Spector, known for his "Wall Of Sound" technique, did not produce this - Bill Medley did. In a 2007 statement to the Forgotten Hits newsletter, Medley said: "You have to remember that I was producing our stuff before Phil Spector... I mean I produced 'Little Latin Lupe Lu,' 'My Babe' and all that stuff. Then when we went with Phil, Phil asked me if I would produce the albums because it was too time consuming for him to produce the entire albums. So he was going to do the singles and I would do the album. And so that's how that happened and that's how I produced 'Unchained Melody,' which Phil Spector apparently now takes credit for. He can have the credit. And I'm not a producer. I know how to produce. But it's obviously not a Spector production. 'Unchained Melody' was never intended to be the single... it was produced to be on the album. It was put on the B side of a Phil Spector single 'Hung On You' and the minute it was released 'Unchained Melody' just went through the roof." Hatfield’s rendition of “Unchained Melody” although not the original, is the ‘gold standard’. One of the best loved songs in America from the 60's. I was teenager in the 70's and I still love it. Enjoy our music. There is a lot of good music from the 60's and 70's.
I bet you since 1965 romance was enhanced and true love, marriages happened and possibly another population explosion listening to these beautiful songs that The RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS sang in harmony.
Austin Brown of Home Free did a very nice cover of this incredibly beautiful Righteous Brothers original. This song will remain a classic for all time.
Thanks, dude.. Bobby here is amazing.. he looks like a "ken doll".. but his voice is golden, his breath control is amazing.. no "auto-tune".. and now straining or screaming.. just beautiful vocal ability.. (I heard he was nervous singing this live, b/c his MOM was in the audience.. I'm sure she was proud!) Thanks for your reaction!
When my husband and I were dating, he surprised me with tickets to see the Righteous Brothers on Valentine's Day. When he sang this song, my husband shocked me even further by dancing with me and singing this song to me. It was the first time in the 14 years we had been dating that he had ever danced with me (yes I said 14 yrs. As a matter of fact, we got married after dating for 25 yrs.). To this day, when I hear this song I see his smiling face singing to me and ACTUALLY DANCING WITH ME! My husband passed away from cancer 15 yrs ago but the memories never end. Thank you for bringing back such a very very very special time for me and my husband.

@@pjackson2064 I am so extremely sorry about your daughter. I know exactly how you feel. The pain never ever stops when a child passes. I have learned to live with the pain so I can still be here and do my best for the rest of my family. I still have my sleepless nights & crying in my pillow. I have learned that I still need to let those emotions out, bottling them up only leads to them festering into something ugly and then erupting in an ugly mess. I hope you will be able to allow yourself those times. I call it my, "let go of the pain, then pick myself up, wipe it off till next time, and carry on for my family that is here & needs me." Linda Ronstadt would be a great artist for you to get into here in your channel. She has a very strong and distinctive voice, and has done many different styles through the 70s and 80s
Another song that you need to react to by the Righteous Brothers is where they both sing together is "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" 1964. The combination of both their vocals together is epic to say the least. To see and hear how one's vocals compliments the other is truly amazing. I promise you will not be disappointed.

What you have just heard is one of the best love songs ever written. It was first recorded in 1950's for a movie called "Unchained ". Here, the singer did one version but isn't the official one. Nonetheless, this song will be recognized as one of the very best and is still being played today and a timeless classic for many generations to come. Thanks for your reaction.

Bobby Hatfield was one of the greatest singers ever. This marvelous song is one of the greatest songs in music history When he teams up with Bill Medley they belt out such great songs as You lost that Loving Feeling Soul and Inspiration, Just once in my Life and more. Bobby did a fantastic job doing Ebb Tide. Best of success on yr channel.
THIS Is BOBBIE’S “Song”!!!!! No one, except possibly an angel could sing it so well! His parents were in the audience! How proud 🥲 was his Mother! Beyond Measure!! Glad you enjoyed!
I love it when the banter from the old Andy Williams show is included in this, because when Bobby talks, you can tell he is a bit breathless and nervous, But he just comes thru with every note, and includes a little lip bite at the end. I believe his studio version of this song was used in the movie "Ghost" with Demi Moore and Patrick Swazey yeas ago. But this live version is the absolute BEST ever. This was back in the time when vocals were king. Andy Williams, the host of the show was a great singer also, very smooth voice, probably one of his most famous songs was "Moon River" It was never officially Xmas at our house growing up unless an Andy Williams Christmas album was on the stereo.
Most singers in the 50s and 60s could hit the highest of notes because of pure raw talent. Modern day not so much as only Mariah Carey can hit those high notes consistently and perfectly. It’s very rare that pure raw talent is seen much today. It’s mostly covered up by background music now not letting it shine like the past.
They started with talent, added a LOT of hard work, hours of rehearsing every day, being critical when listening to their recordings, accepting advice, then working some MORE. Talent is a starting point. It's hard work, attention to detail, and dedication that truly make the great performers. A person with 'talent' but no work ethic ... that's a tragic pairing.
Sorry, but this is just wrong. There are just as many amazing singers today as in the 50s and 60s. I lived through all of this so I have first hand perspective. Christine Aguilera has amazing pipes, so does Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande. Tim Faust can hit 5 octaves. Did you see the range of David Draimon in Sounds of Silence?
No one ever sang it like Bobby Hatfield .❤ I watched this performance live on the Andy Williams Show that night. It was magical. I hummed it all day in school the next day.
This is always the first song I recommend because it’s my absolute favorite. It came out when I was 7, (I’m 65 now.) My mother played this nonstop for days and still to this day, I get goosebumps each time I hear it. I believe this is the very best reaction I’ve ever seen from you. You appeared to get deeply and completely lost in this song, a bit emotional. I know I’ve never seen you just lay across your mic. And I was so happy to see you replay it, in it’s entirety. Best reaction!!!

The other brother does matter. "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is a MUST watch. :)
Bill medley sang a beautiful tribute song for Elvis called Old Friend!
I'm told that Bobby Hatfield had a cold during this performance. Makes it even more amazing.
I've read that before too. When he's talking to Andy Williams you can hear him fighting for his breath a little. Still sang like an Angel though!
You actually need to see…. You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling (1964 version)…. to understand why these two men’s voices meshed together so beautifully.
Hearing "I don't know anything about" classic pop and rock song, makes me feel every day of my 77 years.😂
He was doing this on a regular microphone with no auto tune. His mother was in the audience. He had a fabulous voice and The Righteous Brothers had some of the greatest songs on their albums! This was voted the best song of the 20th Century.
Poor Bobby, his mom in the audience and he had a bad cold at the time. Fabulous performance.
I wish a bad cold did that to my voice.
And yet nailed it to the point of being the GOAT!
You must hear the duo sing “You’ve lost that loving feeling”. Masterpiece👍👍
BEST SONG EVER❤❤❤❤
Everyone in that room unknowing witnessed History being made that night for generations to come.
Yes
Highly recommend you look up Linda Ronstadt on Wikipedia, and check out who she is, and what she’s done as a singer. She sang rock, pop, country, folk, punk/new wave, light opera, old standards, even Latin/Mariachi! She did it all. Her voice was really something special.
She had such a strong voice with a lot of projection, yet also soft and angelic. versatile voice!
Linda is one of my top 5 favorite singers of all time!
She's one of my favorite singers of all time. Love her!!
Linda is one of the best! I love her recording of desperado
The most diverse female singer of her generation, for sure
She blew the roof off every genre from folk to opera. Impossible to pick a favorite of hers.
told you it was perfection. Now, you can go and watch his solo of 'Summertime' on YT, totally different experience--shows his great range, still perfection. The Righteous Brothers would sing as a duo and sometimes record solos'. This song was featured in the movie "Ghost". And congrats on the new baby and your future wedding!
Yes my friend amazing indeed such a golden voice Bobby had and its the best live performance ever rip ❤
you can tell that Bobby Hatfield was nervous before his song by the way he was a bit breathless during that first introduction party with Andy Williams.
I'm also 75. It was a different world.
Also 75.
Keith i am right there with you. Turned 76 in 2024. We boomers grew up with some great music in the fifties and sixties IMO. Bobby was hands down the most phenomenal surprise we were gifted with.
@@lindalandry2519 Me too, in December. Great singers back then.
72 here. This was a huge Vietnam War Era hit. Still reminds me of writing letters to my then boyfriend who was stationed in Viet Nam for two tours of duty. Miss the fabulous music we enjoyed, it will never be duplicated.
They are both stars and both sing.
Every woman loves slow dancing to this song with that special someone…this is pure talent..no auto tune, lip syncing, AI…just raw talent…
The Korean war was over in 1953.
I didn't want to correct you but I can't help it this song was made in 1955 and America was just starting the veitnam war in 1955 the Korean war started in 1950 and ended in 1953 its a veitnam song
Yeah, I wasn't sure. Thanks!
Excellent song for a first dance at a wedding, so romantic and full of emotion ❤.
Please do You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling by the Righteous Brothers!!
Yes! That one really highlights Bill Medley (aka "the other brother").
You've Lost That Loving Feeling' is definitely the next song from the Righteous Brothers you'll want to listen to.
Linda Ronstadt has sang more genres and styles than any other singer I can think of, by far. And she managed to sound great in all of them… Rock, pop, folk, country, blues, new wave, light opera, old standards, even Latin/Mariachi. She was so diverse, she’s amazing!
Young Angelina Jordan is the 'heir apparent' to Linda, for sure.
And Karen Carpenter
This is only the tip of the Bobby Hatfield vocal iceberg. Look for Summertime 1965 by Bobby. Prepare for pure 🔥🔥🔥
I love his live version of Summertime on YT video
You could tell Bobby was suffering with a heavy cold - he sounded quite breathless but when he started singing ......... WOW - PERFECTION!❤
I watched this on live TV with my Mom.
I grew up with this song and still get chills when I hear it. Yeah back then No Auto Tune. Now you need your listen to both of them. Soul and Inspiration and You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling
This was when singers didn't need auto-tune.❤
Going back to listen again is the only correct reaction to hearing this song the first time.
We had real music artists in the 50's and 60's
Unchained Melody:
Bobby Hatfield live performance.
The Andy Williams Show-
Episode #4.5
Episode aired: Monday, Oct 25, 1965:
Robert Lee Hatfield (August 10, 1940 - November 5, 2003) Bobby Hatfield, who had a higher countertenor voice to Bill Medley’s, William Thomas Medley (born September 19, 1940) baritone, sang lead on this track.
’And I said, 'No, you can't.' [Laughs] And I think it's a big part of that song."
* This was released on Philles Records, Phil Spector's label. It was put on the B side of a Phil Spector single 'Hung On You' and the minute it was released 'Unchained Melody' just went through the roof."
Hatfield’s rendition of “Unchained Melody” although not the original, is the ‘gold standard’.

One of the best baby making songs ever. ❤❤❤❤❤
Linda Ronstadt’s vocals are legendary/iconic. You should 100% check her out here on your channel, as other people here have recommended!
They are both amazing talents. Check out their song "You've lost that loving feeling. The other guy sings the lead.
"Blue-Eyed Soul"
An amazing duo. Period Full stop
Linda Ronstadt has a really nice one called Long Long Time. Also, Blue Bayou, Desperado, Tracks of My Tears, You’re No Good..
I think Andre would really love Linda. Her voice is beautiful and strong.
The pure talent and bravado shown in a live performance like this nearly brings me to tears.
You have me crying now
@@pjackson2064 I'm sorry. I didn't mean for any tears, but smiles & joy for such precious and wonderful memories filled with so much love. Love & memories never leave us.
@@ionecuff6323 that's what touched me so much. Because I could read the love in your lines. The precious memories. I have buried my wonderful memories deep down, because I can't bear the pain, since I had to bury my daughter. I was deeply moved by your recollection. I wish you a wonderful life.
I call it my, "let go of the pain, then pick myself up, wipe it off till next time, and carry on for my family that is here & needs me." I think each of us have to find our own way to deal and cope with the loss. I will keep you in my prayers. You are not alone. P.S. I lost my next to oldest son 2 yrs ago.
@@ionecuff6323 thank you. ❤️
Linda Ronstadt would be a great artist for you to get into here in your channel. She has a very strong and distinctive voice, and has done many different styles through the 70s and 80s
I think her voice is so beautiful
I saw the Righteous Brothers in Las Vegas in 1993. It was awesome!!
Check out both 'brothers' singing the Rogers and Hammerstein hit You'll Never Walk Alone. Bill Medley adds a fantastic baritone voice to the mix.
Another song that you need to react to by the Righteous Brothers is where they both sing together is "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" 1964. The combination of both their vocals together is epic to say the least. To see and hear how one's vocals compliments the other is truly amazing. I promise you will not be disappointed.
Thanks for the reaction. Keep discovering new songs.
I still get chills Everytime I hear this song. 😊. Also, listen to their song “Lost That loving Feeling”.
Oh us girls back in those days we would cry and just love this stuff. I was born in 1960. I'm almost 64 now. And i wish so bad at times to go back to them days. Thank you for sharing this young man. There is so much more from them to listen to.
This was my husband's and my song until he walked out on our 30 years of being together. Still love it. Righteous Brothers are awesome singers.
It was especially emotional for him to sing this because his mother was in the audience. ♥️
You need to check out "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling", also by the Righteous Brothers (others have done it, but there's is the iconic version). You'll get to see the other one with his own incredible voice featured in that one.
This is the best song ever!! The best version and the best vocals with no auto tune or touch ups, totally live and he killed it!! I can watch this video over and over, its perfection!!! I literally have chills even though I've seen this numerous times!!!
Both of them could sing like no ones' business. This is what we call Blue Eyed Soul. They had many hits and both of them are great singers. Their voices perfectly complement one another with the others being much deeper. He was just showing off there at the end. Wow!
I listen to this song almost every day. Summertime is another one I love. Plus , of course any of the two of them together. Best duet ever.❤
Best choice this song this version of, for your wedding congratulations and God bless you Both 🙏🔥🤟🇺🇸
Listen to you lost this loving feeling with both
Blue eyed soul at it's best is how you describe The Righteous Brothers!
Bobby Hatfield was one of the greatest singers ever. This marvelous song is one of the greatest songs in music history
When he teams up with Bill Medley they belt out such great songs as You lost that Loving Feeling Soul and Inspiration, Just once in my Life and more.
Check out Righteous Brothers cover of You'll Never Walk Alone on the Ed Sulluvan Show.
@williamcahill2462. They are exceptions, not the rule.
@@williamcahill2462 Most use auto tune.

No one ever sang it like Bobby Hatfield .❤ I watched this performance live on the Andy Williams Show that night. It was magical. I hummed it all day in school the next day.
Live, no auto tune and his Mom was in the audience
This is always the first song I recommend because it’s my absolute favorite. It came out when I was 7, (I’m 65 now.) My mother played this nonstop for days and still to this day, I get goosebumps each time I hear it. I believe this is the very best reaction I’ve ever seen from you. You appeared to get deeply and completely lost in this song, a bit emotional. I know I’ve never seen you just lay across your mic. And I was so happy to see you replay it, in it’s entirety. Best reaction!!!
