Canadians looks like they finished our anthem. They are one of our literally and figuratively closest allies and brothers. We share water, hobbies, cultures, accents, really we have never had ill will with any Canadians here in the US.
I live in Northeastern Minnesota (not far from the US/Canadian border) & the US National Anthem is played before every sporting even from high school to college to professional sports - we also frequently have the Canadian anthem played as we do play games against Canadian teams. Everyone stands & sings when the anthem plays - lots of the time, there is just the music playing (live band or recorded) & the audience sings the words - it's usually just larger games like professionals & tournaments that have the soloist with a microphone. I even know the English parts of the Canadian anthem (I don't speak French, so I don't know that part). It's the same in Canada - they usually know our anthem & will sing both when they are played - especially if they are near the border or fans of Hockey that hear both frequently since American & Canadian teams play each other frequently. I learned how to play both anthems in the school band as well since we played the anthems at games. The Star Spangled Banner does make you emotional when the entire crowd is singing it together. Americans have always been proud to show patriotism. It's only been the last decade or so that the weird political distractions have made so many Americans pick sides & be so judgemental of their neighbors. It will hopefully get back to our normal politics soon - once the parties get back to working together for the common good of the country.
We owe Canada a lot. When american hostages were taken in Iran, the Canadian embassy in Iran hid Americans. Also what Canada did for Americans on 9/11 when US citizens were stranded in Canada when all planes from overseas were turned away from us airports.
It's why I still put my hand over my heart for Canada's national anthem at sporting events, but not... say china's. Only the U.S.A. and my snowy neighbors. God Bless America, God Bless Canada. I'm a loyal American Citizen I have no hate for foreigners... I just don't have any allegiance to them or their anthems. Canada though, you helped us stay free. You have my allegiance. P.S. you have to admit the US national anthem is a... banger. Get it? "bombs bursting in air"? banger? All right I'll see myself out.
Americans are raised to put our hands over our hearts and sing along anytime it is sung. The reason everyone was able to backup the singer so quickly is because they were all already singing it and just raised their voices when they realized the mic failed. :)
No kidding, man. We share the largest unmilitarized border in the world with them, and it's just a testament to our love and trust for each other. If the Anglophone countries are like a big family, Canada and USA are like fraternal twins.
@stizelswik3694 Apparently, there's a bot in every crowd! Get lost weiner-stizel. Putin needs you more than we American patriots. Say "hi" to the Donald traitor while you're enjoying Stalingrad!!
Yes, we are. We did have a war with Mexico which did change the future of both countries geographically. But most Americans probably don't know a thing about that war.
I have lived in USA for over 30 years (an immigrant) - America is the greatest country on Gods green earth. I love the American people and their patriotism. Please my fellow Americans, lets not forget our Creator and Savior! God bless!
Too many Americans are willing to vote for Trump, a wannabe dictator who tried to overthrow our democratic republic on January 6. No patriot could support Trump.
I got to the line, "that our flag was still there," and "the land of the free and the home of the brave," and just sobbed like a baby. Our politics and some of the issues we face, like gun violence, drug addiction, unaffordable healthcare, sometimes make it hard to be an American. I love our country and our people and it was beautiful to hear a crowd of Americans come together to sing our anthem. I just hope we can come together to figure some of our other things out.
Yes I love our country, but it always gets me when they say “Land of the Free” when so many Americans were enslaved at the time the words were written. America still dealing with confronting the reality of the history of enslaving so many people for so long. And the aftermath of having that be okay. I still love the promise of our country though
when that mic cut out that poor guy probably thought this was his worst nightmare coming true, but it quickly turned out to be the most wonderful experience.
I actually hated when they tried to break in with the song on the broken mic and when she started pounding the microphone, I cringed! If the 🎤 goes out and everybody’s singing let them sing and shut up and just sing without the microphone 🎤
Honestly, at any given event, if the singer just sang the first line and then put the mic down, I think 99 times out of 100 the crowd would just continue like nothing went wrong and enjoy it more than if someone were singing it.
@@karenthompson8038 I also understand why she might have tried to get it going again. Might be the only time she gets to sing something like this in front of so many people(not sure who the singer was). Worth a shot to see if you can get the mic going.
They also know our anthem is the best… cuz it is. It’s the most powerful anthem in terms of reaching into the human soul and reminding them of the true cost of freedom.
we ride or die with our maple syrup brothers.... they sing the star spangled banner and we would sing O'Canada in the same situation... our war crime top hat isnt to be fucked with
When I was pianist in a restaurant in NJ, the largest tip I ever got was from a table of Canadians. They asked for "O Canada", treating it as a joke because they were certain I wouldn't know it. Then I played it immediately by heart! We are separate nations, but really know each other well.
Canada is like our little brother (even if they are technically older AND BURNED DOWN OUR WHITE HOUSE), other people can joke about them, but only WE can get away with it. Same as Europeans who hate Americans making fun of France but Europeans make a pastime out of roasting France. It's good-natured fun.
Yep. We joke about each other all the time, but if ANYONE ever attacked the U.S. we know Canada would be at our back because they've proven it time and again. And if someone was ever stupid enough to attack Canada, they better get ready to have hell rain down on them, because NO ONE hurts our Canadian bros!
In case anyone missed it or forgot? Remember those Chinese balloons over the US? Canada scrambled our fighter jets to protect the US skies. That's the kind of ally they are. It's part of NORAD and they're allowed to use our military planes to keep the skies secure.
Most glorious national anthem in the world. Love it, I’m not American but when people sing the US national anthem I get goosebumps. Hoping one day I can be a part of that blessed nation. May God keep blessing the United States of America
I’d agree that Canadians are better neighbors than Mexico right now but many of us have long memories. Every indication I got online, up until the early 2000’s, Canadians hated Americans (their rich neighbors). I’m old enough to remember the very first websites with comment sections (Free Speech America). We used to argue every day about who invented basketball, who invented baseball, whose country is larger, why are we so stupid not to have free healthcare like them, why draft dodgers and gay people sought safe-haven across the northern border, mad cow disease, cost of living, gas prices, burning down the White House, the Queens money, US vs Canadian Constitution differences (the freedom of conscious thought), which flag design is better than the other, ad nauseum. The internet has opened up the world making it easier for everyone to criticize the big bad Americans. Brits were doing it too and we felt the same hatred from them as the Canadians. Everyone had a grievance to talk about against everything we’ve done since gaining Independence. This new phenomenon of Reactors created by social media during Covid lockdown is an attempt at a hand shake and an invite to understand what America is and why we live the way that we do (free, brave and prideful). Every single time, from every country, we’d hear ‘Oh really? We thought Americans were selfish, rich, loud-mouthed, arrogant, war machine, a-holes but now we’re starting to see that you guys aren’t that bad and maybe I’d like to visit America now’. It may seem today like we are all besties with something in common but in reality it’s only a populated handful on social media. The common Canuck and Brit still really dislike us because World History and cultural politics teaches them to as a common enemy against a super power. One on one or in small groups, we can get along just fine, but I’m under no illusion about all of us being the best of honorable friends now and in the future. I do consider us part of the western society’s modern family making the UK and Canada, the equivalent of our second cousins once removed. Doesn’t mean we like all of our relatives, just means we have to live in the same family; get along when you can but fight when necessary. Apologies for rambling but like I said, we have long and traumatic memories and so do they. Some are still very salty that they lost the wars to Americans 250 years ago. The game of Risk has always played out on the world stage, with shifting allies and enemies (kaleidoscope view). The best I can say in all honesty is some people like us but the majority don’t.
I am not a born US citizen, but I am very proud to be part of this great nation, I became a citizen in 2007 and I am so grateful for all the opportunities I was able to get, to bad that some US born citizens don't love their country...
Thank you for the love, Oscar and we are honored to have you here. I wish a whole lot of celebrities and college professors would use their freedom of choice and move to the socialist/communist country that gives them warm fuzzy feelings.
"What people really do not understand about this is that Americans love America, sure, but it is the idea of human freedom that this song represents-the unyielding belief in liberty that Americans are really behind, even when we do not agree on how
The idea of human freedom that this song represents…and the unyielding belief in liberty… This is a song that talks about slavery, lauds slavery, and was written by a slave owner. We only sing the first part of the song as our anthem bc the rest is too disgusting. His words were then set to an old English drinking song, even though we were fighting the War of 1812 against the despised British, against whom we had already fought a war to gain independence. The irony. Freedom and Liberty, my ass.
@@namelia4439As for it being a "drinking song"- it wasn't. The tune was the anthem of the Anacreon Society and was meant to be sung in a "special and stately way." You can also look that one up if you bothered to take the time. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Anacreontic_Song Seriously, if you hate your country so much, just leave. You won't, tho. You like the freedoms we have here too much.
@@namelia4439What part of it talks about slavery? I’m genuinely asking. Also, if you hate this country and our anthem so much, then make plans to leave. If you’re talking about the 3rd verse. They mention the word “slave”, but not slave like you’re thinking. “…and slave” is a direct reference to the British practice of Impressment. Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner after he had been detained by the British and had watched the bombing of Fort McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore. He feared that the fort would fall to the British troops, but when he saw “The Star Spangled Banner” flying over the fort, he wrote this anthem for the American victory. He was a slave owner, we’re not going to pretend like he wasn’t (much like how the Dem party likes to pretend they weren’t the cause of the KKK). Our country wasn’t even a country yet, so naturally they would bring societal norms over with them at the time. Does that make it right? No, absolutely not. But that’s just how it was at the time. Slavery has been around since 3500 BC (in Mesopotamia, by the way), and every ethnicity has either been or owned a slave. But luckily, there have been quite a few nations that have abolished the practice. Which is something amazing you fail to see about this country. Our country had become a sovereign nation in 1784 and we abolished slavery in 1865. That’s only 81 years. Not even a century and America had abolished the disgusting practice of slavery, meanwhile there are some countries who either took numerous centuries or still have it to this very day. Since you were kind enough to give us a history lesson, I thought I would join in. It’s okay if you didn’t read all of it, though. (Also we don’t sing the rest of the anthem, because it’s too damn long. 😂)
The bagpipes are playing "America the Beautiful". I believe this was a swim meet. I know it was not the Olympics. The Canadians and Americans regularly sing each others national anthem at hockey games when they play each other. Thanks for the great reaction!
I know Americans have sung the National Anthem in the olympics for a mic fail. In fact i thought it was the olympics in this video. Butthanks for clearing it up my friend❤ USA USA USA
I know this seems unusual, but pretty much every American knows the words and can sing the anthem, so if there's a technical problem stopping the soloist, I promise you, the Americans WILL start singing along. There are also videos showing how Canadians have sung the American National Anthem and Americans have sung the Canadian National Anthem when technical problems arose in the host country, or in cases where both anthems are performed prior to the start of an event.
You have bright eyes on the world and I appreciate that, however, most Americans DO NOT know the words to the National Anthem. Canadians and Americans alike have often joined in the anthem of the other if the microphone cuts out! It's a respect and sportsmanship thing! Our Canadian neighbors are awesome. They're known for being some really amazing, friendly, generous and kindhearted people (though don't let that fool you, they're not to be underestimated!).
I've proudly sung the Canadian anthem when I've been to baseball games between the Blue Jays and whomever they are playing. And they sing the US anthem too. Two countries that get along rather well.

Be sure to watch a vid of Jim Cornelison sing at a Chicago Blackhawks game, also Cactus Cuties at a Texas Tech basketball game. And comment when you have!
I always love during games when they pan out to the players and they will be singing along and some even cry completely unashamed because we love our home 🇺🇲
The bagpipe tune at the beginning is the unofficial second US National Anthem. Most everyone who knows the US Anthem knows "America the Beautiful" too.
As a TEXAS second grade school teacher, I took the time to teach my kids the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, God bless America, This Land is my Land, and the Texas state Song, Texas our Texas. I also taught them the story behind Francis Scott Key writing the. national anthem.

Theres a great video of british parliment performing the "battle hymn of the republic" after 9/11 in a show of solidarity. It makes me quite emotional.
After the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Queen Elizabeth ordered a military band to play “The Star-Spangled Banner” during the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace,
Yeah, brings tears to my eyes even now, remembering it. One of the saddest days in our history, and our friends and allies from around the world offered condolences and solidarity.
Yes, and when 9/11/2001 happened, and they forced all the airplanes down, Americans that landed in Canada were welcomed into the homes of our friends to the North. The Canadians cared for the Americans for almost a week until they were aloud to travel home.
I remember when a similar failure occured during a hockey game in Canada and even though most Canadians do not know the full lyrics of the US National Anthem people either sang when they knew it, or hummed when they didn't.

A lot of people who go to Hockey games attend them in the US and in Canada, so both groups get many opportunities to hear the national anthem of the other nation.
I hadn’t seen this before. I’m also not a particularly tearful kind of man, but this has me weeping very proud tears for my country and my countrymen. The US is going through some tough times with our political divisions, and those divisions are so shameful. It’s nice to be reminded of our potential when we’re united.
Well there's one party who is proud of our flag and our American heritage. And then there's another who thinks it's a racist symbol and does everything they can to destroy our American principles and heritage. Therein lies the problem.

USA and Canada play against each other in baseball, hockey, basketball, and football. Before most games both national anthems are sung, so both countries know both anthems.
As an American I started singing it automatically. Most of us were so indoctrinated as children in school that we automatically place our right hands over our hearts and sing along whenever we hear it....and we mean it. Also, our Canadian brothers and sisters helping out was amazing. Canadians are such kind and gentle and generous people.

These are Canadians, and some US visitors, singing the US anthem. The game was in Canada, and Canadians came through for the US team. Kudos to them all.
This American is crying. When I’m blessed enough to be in public when we hear it, I always think of our troops overseas that would do anything to trade moments with me to be home in that moment. And I cry. 🥹
He still led the crowd and they happily fallowed. Canada is amazing neighbors. This game was held in Canada. They made us proud.❤ They know Americans will protect them.
To our Canadian neighbors to the north, we honor and cherish your beautiful voices singing our National Anthem. You understood what this meant for us; when the mic dropped, just like our flag did then, you were there to pick it right back up. Oh Canada, we stand on guard for thee. We stand with all who oppress tyranny and stand for liberty and justice for all.
Normally, we sing our anthem with a lot more gusto; however, it seems like the crowd understood the assignment, & kept it mellow so as to not drown out the singer. Respect!
My favorites are when it is cross borders. Like a hockey game in Detroit and it goes out during Oh, Canada or in Canada and it goes out during the star spangled banner. Everyone just starts singing. Both nations are good at each other's anthems. Edit: and you even show one after I commented! 😂
@European Reacts, the microphone returned and the singer cut it off. He didn't want to interrupt the moment. A singer without an ego. Who would think one existed?😊
As a kid my dad was military, we sang the national anthem every morning at school along with other songs...I think it's in our DNA that if the singer for some reason can't continue we just pick up and go with it.
It helps that 'Oh Canada' is a banger of an anthem as well. Heck, I usually can't stand listening to our own anthem at games considering how many singers butcher it, but Canada's is usually done well.
The reason why our National Anthem is so famous is because it means something to everyone It has brought hope to billions of people And I pray that it’ll keep bringing that hope to countless more people on this Earth… Maybe even beyond
This is from the USA Olympics swim trials in Omaha, Nebraska. The Omaha Police Departments Honor Guard opened with the national anthem but had technical problems. The 16000+ crowd stepped in.

It is wonderful that the microphone failed and all of these people began singing America's National Anthem! The media would have the world believe we do not love our country and want globalism to take over - but that is not true!! That Canadians sang our national anthem is thrilling and we Americans have always loved our Canadian neighbors. God bless them!!!

Baseball tournaments, Hockey tournaments, Basketball, Football, Tennis, Swimming, you name any sport, and we've competed in it! Professional sports teams from North American cities often compete, and in Toronto, Canada, hockey games are a big draw. This is particularly true when the Toronto Maple Leafs face off against teams such as the Nashville Predators from the United States. Too many Americans are willing to vote for Trump, a wannabe dictator who tried to overthrow our democratic republic on January 6. No patriot could support Trump.

Even in the darkest of times, our national anthem reminds us of all those who fought, bled, and died for our freedom. God bless America.
I've been in a stadium several times where we all sang the anthem like this. It happens in many games in general

This Minnesotan agrees! ♥
Totally agree!! 🍁🍁🍁
Yes!!! Thank you Canadians!!!
Agree 100 %
We as Americans love our country. We will stand for her anytime or place. So PROUD to have Canada as our sister country

That was beautiful
The idea of human freedom that this song represents…and the unyielding belief in liberty…
This is a song that talks about slavery, lauds slavery, and was written by a slave owner. We only sing the first part of the song as our anthem bc the rest is too disgusting.
His words were then set to an old English drinking song, even though we were fighting the War of 1812 against the despised British, against whom we had already fought a war to gain independence. The irony.
Freedom and Liberty, my ass.
@@namelia4439miserable much?
@@namelia4439As for it being a "drinking song"- it wasn't. The tune was the anthem of the Anacreon Society and was meant to be sung in a "special and stately way." You can also look that one up if you bothered to take the time.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Anacreontic_Song
Seriously, if you hate your country so much, just leave.

@@Thr33-QuartersI mean Australia was a penal colony.
@@briantbmoth6472 Even more of a reason to fight for their and their families independence...
Just the other day, I saw a video at a baseball game where the officials refused to play the anthem, and planned on skipping it, but the crowd burst out singing it anyway, forcing them to wait to continue the game. 😂
I've heard that song a million times in my lifetime ..And I get teary eyed every time..
That’s one of my favorite videos.
Amazing right? ❤
@@european-reacts The U S and Canada have a Peace monument stating we will forever be at peace with each other in the state of Washington our far west border with Canada
There is another video where the Olympic teams sing the National Anthem before going to bed in the lobby of their hotel.
@@briansmith48I have to look that up!
@@european-reacts Hey can i suggest the channel Frenchtastic to check out? She does excellent travel vlogs all around the U.S. She does an amazing job with her vids
The first song that was played on bagpipes was 'America The Beautiful' which tends to be mistaken for our national anthem & often sung along with the 'Star Spangled Banner' our actual national anthem....I'm sure most Canadians actually do know our national anthem just like I'm sure most Americans know their anthem 'O Canada ' especially the people that live along the Northern Border plus there was Americans in that crowd as well
I live a very long ways from the Canadian border, and even I know enough of O Canada to sing along with a crowd.
It is just proper respect to celebrate the teams' countries. And then fight like hell to win the game.
I sing, hand over heart, every time it is played. And have tears in my eyes, i am unashamed to say.
We love our country and have sung this so many times we know ALL the words! God Bless America!
I wish you could have seen the beautiful display of patriotism and unity after 9/11. It was a dark but the week after in every corner of the US there was something I had never seen before and pretty sure will never happen again. The closest thing to the unity is the selfless acts of kindness after a devastating natural disaster. You’re a good man André
European Reacts, Wow, this made my day brighter! Thank you!
I ..may… have gotten a little teary eyed!! I always do! It’s a feeling like no other when everyone sings our national anthem!!!!
Your optimism and enthusiasm for the things that are good about the US, I think, is why I teared up.
This moved me to tears!I love being an American living in the greatest country on Earth.
I'm Canadian, and from the time we are small children, we have heard those two National anthems sung at sports arenas all over the country! It's a nightly tradition to play both national anthems, honoring the both the American and Canadian fanbase. Hockey especially is so ingrained in our culture, that from the time we're little, we are listening to that beautiful American national anthem, and learning the words automatically. I'm sure we can all sing it in our heads. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was a very proud moment for us Canadians too!
Andre, you are so welcome, sweetheart I love the reactions you give about our country!
Best singing you'll hear from Americans!! Our freedom is at the core of our country and our lives. We all know the words and break out in its singing as appropriate. We sing it often at events. I'm not surprised the crowd jumped in and sang it. We sing along with a performer anyway. But it always touches my heart as I sing it with pride, alongside my fellow Americns!!! Thanks for sharing. We need to always remember what it means, and of the blood of our Fathers who fought for our Freedom!! TFS! Austin TX USA
A very proud American!!! 🇺🇲
I came to the United States LEGALLY from northern Nubia (Egypt). I am so proud to be an American. There are no words.
I have tears in my eyes. God bless America, and God bless our brothers and sisters in Canada.
Blacks for Trump!
The way the bag pipes hit for America, The Beautiful. And then the National Anthem!
At sporting events involving Canadian and American teams, both national anthems are played/sung whether the game is in the US or in Canada. Hockey fans especially get to hear both national anthems a lot.
Exactly
We do come together even in small communities…if someone’s house burns or tragedy strikes a family we put donation jars out in the stores and people donate until they get the things they need …firefighters on corners holding boots for donations, we may disagree on things but we truly care about each other ❤
Back in the day, we used to pledge of allegiance to the flag every morning at school.
They don't do that anymore?
@@fionnmaccumhaill3257 I have heard some people say we don't, but I could be wrong. My dad always said not to say I'm wrong-- say I was mistaken. lol
We still do at our school, but some people don't stand up anymore. Everyone did back in elementary and middle school though.
I retired from teaching high school English just two years ago, and at that point, we were still starting every morning with the pledge of allegiance.
@@cherilynne1946 Varies from school to school from what I can tell. My younger siblings didn't have it at all when they were in school. It was phasing out when I was in highschool a bit over 20 years ago. They really only did it if there was an assembly, and even then it wasn't something they required everyone to take part in. Now, that difference could be that we lived in Texas when I was in school, and family had moved to Indiana by the time my siblings were in high school. I DO remember it being required at the start of every morning when I was in Elementary school though.
Thank you, Love US , love Canada! Glad to see we respect our country and national anthem again. Beautiful moment!
As an American I felt so proud of what I just saw...Thank You
I just subbed !!
God bless 🇨🇦 and I would loudly sing their national anthem for them too if their mike cuts out. 🇺🇸❤️🇨🇦
The hockey game took place in Canada so yeah its pretty special we love our neighbors and they luv us too❤
We are lucky to have Canada to the north and Portugal to the east.
❤
Hockey is a sport enjoyed by both Canada and the US. The "National Hockey League" (NHL) contains teams from both nations, so often there will be games between teams of both nations, and they will sing the national anthems of both teams before the game.
