This channel is truly incredible. I learn so much and have access to such an amazing opportunity; to learn about these new fungi from parts of the world I have yet to go too and it’s all at my fingertips. Thank you ten fold.
I like it too, but I would like to point out that most of life is amazing. As humans we somehow get used to everything we see, but it is truly magnificent. Bacteria, funghi, insects, fish, invertebrates, mammals, mountains, rivers; ecosystems in short. This man just wanted to take some photos and because he had time, he started to really look and think. You can do this anywhere. Einstein did it on maths. Stick to something - pursue your fascination, like Stephen and the other researchers here did. Such an interest tends to be very fulfilling, no matter how small or insignificant it seems. Or just play with lego, or trains in the basement, or keep watching youtube. The latter all blur into one, I guess that's the nice thing about funghi. Birdwatchers have similar motivations: there's a lot of them and a lot to observe. Long story short, don't just be amazed by the video, try to find something of your own to amaze you. Jebus said something similar, I suppose: Life in all diversity and art is all around us. I don't believe in God, but in the story, Jesus did have similar care for things others pass by. We just need to appreciate the small stuff and stand still in a moment, instead of constantly trying to move on.
Every millisecond of that walk through the forest must've been full of information and fun. So much of our planet still needs to be studied and explored.
Thank you for such a lovely comment. We do have a 50 minute doco if you haven't already seen it - a fungi safari in the Himalayas available to stream on demand if you are interested - all details are on our website www.planetfungi.movie
Your videos have made me so interested in the Chinese province of Yunnan! The fungi are interesting… the people are interesting… I look forward to every other interesting thing I’ll learn. And thank you for all the fungi photography and video. It brings to vivid life what is also a scientifically interesting subject.
Thank you for the videos on mushrooms! Mushrooms are so beautiful! It is so surprising how tiny the mushrooms turns out to be. Would you ever make a video on size comparisons of mushrooms? I think it would be amazing to visualize.
Brilliant documentary about one of the most biologically diverse places on earth. To think that over 20% of the fungi collected were newly discovered is incredible. I was hoping they’d find Lanmaoa asiatica, a local bolete delicacy that if undercooked can allow you to see the Xiao Ren Ren or “little people of Yunnan”.
Randomly got recommended a video about my hometown, on fungi on my front page. 😂 It's very nostalgic to see it after all these years. I don't know whether it's still true, but before I left, my hometown is the biggest exporter of matsutake to Japan.
Hi there yes I’m reposting some of our videos again with closed captions and slightly improving in process. It’s was posted once before on our channel many years ago now. You were one of the loyal people who had seen the previous version so thank you for your support and watching our vids. We really appreciate it.
Just a heads up, it seems like one of your mics only records to the left channel. I got confused for about 30 seconds because I only had my right headphone in.
I still wish I could find a (spore) sample of Ps. chuxiongensis for studies. Should be in a Yunnan herbarium but i found it to be thoroughly inaccessible.
I have a question I guess- Are your team concerned about handling all these undocumented fungi without gloves? Or is it more a case of just don't ingest anything unless it's been cleared as safe? Great video though! IF you guys want to see a local Yunnan cooking with fungus and other local Yunnan produce check out Dianxi Xiaoges channel here on TH-cam, of worthy mention is her Golden Fungus cooking.
all (maybe there are a few exceptions) fungal toxins are not skin penetrating. At least in Germany you can touch the most toxic species (e. g. Amantita phalloides) with you bare hands, if you have no small wound and don't rub your face mucosae. Nevertheless, there still might be a risk, but they obviously know what they are doing. Some genera have no known very toxic species, e. g. Russula, this is why they touched it.
Well like they said, the most mushroom taxonomy is wrong because some mycologists put European name on it. I’m living in Japan since 15 years, and I’m struggling to get proper identification. Can someone advice me for chinese book translated in English? Thanks for the sharing.

@@PlanetFungi of course, it’s really helped me solidify what it is I want to specialize in biology. There’s so much left to learn and discover!

Really hoping you guys make some longer videos available on this channel, less than 5 minutes is not enough and 10 minutes is a tease!
