Yes, i agree this is a truly stunning plant. After buying one, i have another on order because its doing so well in my room with indirect light and a lot of grouped plants.
I just got a calathia ornata aka pinstripe. I love it! Make sure you only use distilled water 💦 and keep it far from the window and it needs humidity. If the air is dry you can put a water fountain ⛲️ or even just a bowl of water next to it will help.
I love the Pinstripe too, it's definitely on my list to pick up when I see one. I use either R.O water or water from my fish tank to water my plants which is essentially the same thing with added nutrients. So far I've not had any issues with humidity, I have a Calethea Orbifolia which is pretty fussy about humidity and it is doing fine in the same location so I'm hoping this one will do just as well. I will let you know. :-)
Prayer plants are mesmerizing, they've become my favourite 🧡 Your White star has so much pink on it! Gorgeous. Any tips on encouraging leaves to have more colour?
Lisa A from Chattanooga Tn. I have never seen that Calathea before I want one I have 3 small Calathea Makoyana I think thats what is called and I love them. I have fish tanks and I use the water for my house plants all my plants seam to love it I also use distilled water from time to time when I do a water change on my tanks I save it for my plants. Hey Andy! I have one of these plants at home and I have had for about a year now. Lately the leafs have gotten more red than white, and I was wondering if that ks a bad thing. Hope you can help!
I don't have enough specialist Calathea knowledge to say for sure but I would guess that it is probably just showing some mature adult foliage colour, I would say it's probably OK, generally, when there is an issue it will result in browning of the leaves, curling or drooping of the leaves, more colour is not usually a sign of a problem. I loved this video! I have a pinstripe calathea that’s not doing to good. I have 20 calatheas that are doing amazing but the pinstripe is in a sorry state. I have a feeling it’s the lighting. Where do you suggest I keep the pinstripe in my home regarding lighting? Do you keep yours in your greenhouse?
Wow! 20 Calatheas! If you're keeping that many alive then you must be doing something right! They are not the easiest to keep sometimes. I don't think Pinstripe are much different to the other Calatheas, they need bright but indirect light, are happy with less light too, like from a distrant window, I have found that the watering and humidity are the things that are the most tricky to get just right. With mine if I'm out with my watering by just a day they can have a strop and sulk for a week! But then when they have taken up the water go back to being happy again. Maybe it got a little drier than usual? I think a moisture meter is handy to see exactly what point each plants likes, to put a number on it helps to be consistant with Calatheas, other plants aren't so fussy so it doesnt mater as much. Let us know how your pinstripe gets on. Andy

@@icemancometh8679 Haha! That's also true, and I still haven't swept the leaves in the front yard that I promised to do this weekend! But apart from the never-ending list, it's been raining non-stop for the last week and I wanted to go on a sunny day at least. Hopefully, next week fingers crossed!
I hate this plant. Hard to care, always curls every time when a new leaf comes out. Its not soil problem or something. My other plants is fine, even Calathea Setosa. This happend only on my white star!

Thank you! I think the light helps the extra colour, but not too intense to avoid scortching the leaves.
Calathea white star is my favorite plant. It won't make you regret if you give it a chance and look after.

The leaves typically get more red/pink when it gets more light. It's natural and if the light isn't burning the leaves it's fine!

I too have a lot of Calathea, my pinstripe noped itself, I tried so many things
The big problem with calathea is spider mites 🙈 Whatever you do you can't get rid of it
