Having some type of carrier available for Kelli is a good idea. It's a "safe" place for her, especially if you need to leave the van in any kind of emergency or evacuation.👍Letting her sit in it and hang out will also help familiarize her so she doesn't get scared and hide under the bed.

My cat liked her backpack carrier. It took some time, but she wanted to sit in it all the time, even when we didn't go for a walk. There's also kitty carriers that are like baby slings. Maybe that seems like too much, but there's lots of options out there.

I was in between jobs at the time of the 2010 Olympics while i was in college. So I took a job as a concession stand worker at BC Place Stadium (downtown Vancouver). They had the nightly ceremonies there. We were not allowed to sneak in the bleachers to watch it or else we'd get in trouble.

The backpack would be nice for both you and Kelly when your van is being worked on when she needs to be inside for a long time. The leash is nice, though the backpack offers a safe zone for her. Bears are so beautiful, it's too bad they are aggressive and dangerous.
Maybe a tip for the next hike ... I always use Chinese or japanese tigerbalm on my legs or other parts I know where gonna have sour muscles right after a hike or training... You know that is that minty warm balm ... And if I don't have that I use vickx vaporup balm it dous almost the same ... Also if I have a migraine headache I use it on the side of my forehead ... Those balms have many purposes ... And it works great ...
I am impressed how chill Kelly is with her back pack carrier. We tried to put my friend's cat in a carrier. I quit trying after she hissed and swiped at me rmoughbthat my face was covered in blood.
Try putting her favourite treats into it every day or even twice a day until she is hopping in and out of it happily. Then treats close it up. Feed her a few again once closed up. Then let her out. Once she's comfortable close it up and pick up the backpack. You might even by this stage be able to walk around with her in it. It's taken almost a month for my boy to start to accept his basket on the bike. I haven't tried on the bike yet and he loves going in his backpack.
I was looking at these and though my past cat wasn't heavy (12lbs) I don't think I could have done that very long. I mean they move around so that puts the balance off for me.
I don't know whether you have heard yet about the big forest fires back east. There is a huge wildfire in Halifax which has destroyed a number of houses, still out of control
I've never seen a bear here, in northwest Florida, but they are around. The other day, a baby bear was swimming in the Gulf of Mexico and ran on the beach passed swimmers. And, there was one climbing over people's fences in a neighborhood. It's said over and over DO NOT FEED THE BEARS and LOCK YOUR GARBAGE CANS but some bears don't cooperate 😂

I hope your kitty backpack has hip straps. It’s a lot easier on the neck, shoulders, and spine if you can transfer the weight to the hips. If your backpack doesn’t come with them, you can buy strapping and buckles from a sports store that sells climbing and backpacking equipment, and then have a person who does alterations (you can find them at dry cleaners shops) who can sew them on.
Hi Emi! Going down hill on a hike is killing. Where I live we have a lot of hikes starting high-up in the mountains and going down-down- down to sea level. You recognise the people doing these hikes because the the day after, they all walk around like ducks.😄 By the way,- I can't remember the earrings you are wearing. New? They look great!

For cramping on the back of your legs,try getting a wet washcloth and use rubbing Alcohol,and gently rub the area..it helps.

You're right having a strap around the waist is key to distribution of weight, stability and comfort. Just like a good quality trail backpack.
Usually you have to start kittens with carriers, harnesses etc it's alot easier
