LET'S GET THIS OUT ONTO A TRAY, NICE™
NICE HISS™
I'LL BE COMING BACK AT YOU WITH SOMETHING NEW OR OLD, ALRIGHT COOL SEE YA™
I live in Germany and when i was young, in the early 90s, we had US soldiers regularly practicing with their tanks nearby. We knew, that they would ilke german beer, so we took the bottles there and gave them to the soldiers. In return, we got these MREs and we were so happy! All these flavors, the chewing gum, etc. It is a nice memory of my childhood. This MRE reminds me of the ones we got back in the times.
for how many bottles did you get one MRE?
@@gulliverthegullible6667 98
@@dantyler6907 that would be a horrible trade for Wurzelsepp.
Ich kenne noch die alten c-rations. Remembering the old c-rations with the cigarettes in it on the us army exercises in germany. They were great. Turkey meat, the great cookies and the canned spaghetti's.
I lived in Stuttgart as a firefighter while in the army. We traded with the kids almost every day. C-ration and then MRE. We got beer and ham and cheese and bread
It is Friday night and I'm watching a man eat 20 year old instant oatmeal packets

Yep that's me
It's 'cause he's so upbeat. If you were going hiking in the woods, you'd want him as company. Nice! Check this out! A bear! Awesome! No joke!
i just discovered this old mre thing yesterday and its my new favorite thing on youtube
Those closure strips, are actually twisty-ties. the material you can to close off goes in the center and the two ball ends cross over each other and close it off.
There's just something about this man and his passion for MREs that keeps bringing me back.
5 years since this posted and I still find myself re watching now 😂
Yeah it happens
Making the rounds on these old ration videos. Thank you so much for making them, Steve
The sudden realization that 1998 was 18 years ago
Shut up! Im not old i promise!
It's roughly the same age as Gran Turismo, Resident Evil II, and Metal Gear Solid. And they came out only yesterday.
shits the same age as me
I know! :'(
I was 8 in 1998, but something from 1998 still feels new and current to me!
My God...18 years...
Awesome review as always brotha! Many thanks to Mr browning for providing these excellent and rare rations! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I can't wait to see part 2... On a side note, glad to see you posting new content! It's my birthday today and this is a real treat. Keep the vids coming!
you DA man
stickyfingaz745 one year late, but happy birthday!
Been watching Steve for sometime now. I enjoy his and Gustos videos immensely. Back in the 70's, my Uncle and I would purchase C rations from an Army Surplus store. I guess they were extras from the Vietnam Nam War which had just ended. Spaghetti with meat sauce and Frank's and Beans were our favorites. On our hunting trips, we would mix these two rations together for supper. We would also have B1 and B2 cans. My Uncle took the unit with the cheese, crackers, and chocolate disc. I got the ones with the crackers, peanut butter, and coconut chocolate disc. The can with the pound cake or pecan roll was mine. Good breakfast with hot coffee. When I see Steve doing reviews of Vietnam Nam era rations, it brings back good memories. Back in the 70's these rations were pretty good. Today, well it's a shame. No P38 for us. I used the can opener on my Boy Scout pocket knife. Hey Steve...NICE!🇺🇸
I really like the part on all your videos where you go like: "Allright, let's put this onto a tray. - Nice"
Never gets old. :)
QUAD405 nice hiss
So you’re a casual, got it.
Steve, I enjoy packets being dumped into the glass. I like the dust and the tones when you tap the spoon after stirring.
what a unique youtube! I really enjoy seeing these reviews.
Thanks, Stickyfingaz745, Steve got to eat a non-rancid meal for a change, thanks to you! I'm actually HAPPY for him!
don't know how I got here(recommended video). these are outstanding videos! love the review and the delivery! so knowledgeable as well. 5 out of 5 stars all videos I've seen so far!
I had to pause at 2:35 I was laughing so hard.
"Alright now lets get this out on a tray"
*Poof- all food items are still in packaging, but piled onto a tray*
"Nice!'
My favorite part of a Steve1989 video. Always makes me laugh.
you know warhammer 40k?!?! :D
Yes I do, heretic.
BoomBoomChicky FOR THE EMPEROR
When will you stop worshiping skeleton emperor?
"Every time I have cold weather ration fig bars..."
Lolol I love what you do, keep it up.
its funny how steve can turn a shitty day into a good day just by putting out videos. Thanks man.
8:17 i'm dying. The sped up slurping noise was too good
I want you to know I sampled your "I don't normally smoke cigarettes, but when I do they're at least 45 years old" quote for my drum and bass/hardcore techno project. Fuckin love it.
can i hear this???

this is classic
dude thank you very much lol
dude that sounds rly "nice". ;)
Great job man! I think I'm going to bust open that RCW you sent me tomorrow. After seeing this, I can't wait!
Hey Steve! So glad to see your videos again! I liked this one so much! Thanks for sharing it. Really well preserved and it looked like it was tasty, based on your reactions :D
It looks like 1997-1998 was a great time for rations, huh? I remember the 1997 British 24 hour ration. So cool!
Great review! Greetings from Costa Rica!
I did a winter camping expedition for a week and ate a case of these. They were great. I never new what the "entrée closure clips" we're until I watched this video lol.
Its crazy to see how MREs evolved thanks for sharing this
I went through a lot of cold weather training in the military and never saw one of these. Some genius thought it would be good for morale to serve hot A rations (regular food) when the temp was 65 below zero. Baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy froze by the time it hit the taters and you couldn't eat the chicken with your mittens on. Then the chicken froze. We were pissed just a tad.
Hey, can you do a video where you tell stories about the times you got sick from those old rations? I know it's a weird request but I am curious what happened when you tied them.
I love your voice, you really need to do book readings or something.
I just ate In&Out, and I want an MRE more now.
I am loving watching all these videos its super interesting and relaxing. Also love all the homemade music, i really like the into music for this one.
I'm gonna buy some modern ration packs for camping. These videos gave me the idea, good work buddy
glad to see your back got my son addicted to the videos and mre we just received 6 sopacos haven't found cold weather ones without breaking the bank thanks for the education
Steve your not using the bag closures right. You've got to twist the bag then wrap the closure around it and snap it back into itself.
NICE
I had been doing them wrong for years - thanks for the heads up, Eric!
This is the only ration review anywhere to discuss the aesthetic qualities of fig bars. Awesome!
+Splash They are like a cookie.
brian jewell ohh
I bought a large box of the Lipton chicken noodle Cup-a-Soup to keep in a desk drawer at work for whenever some sort of emergency lunch is required. The flavor is about the same as I remember from my childhood, but it's equal parts amusing and disturbing that neither the outer nor the inner packaging has any kind of expiration date.
That’s a good ass idea
@@Rountree1985 If you have one near you, Smart & Final carries them. That's where I got mine.
I really like these videos, they are not only very informative reviews but they are also relaxing to watch. A combination of qualities that is a bit of a rarity. You are the Bob Ross, the Mr.Rogers of MRE reviews.
Yay 3 new videos to start the weekend!
+Steve1989 MREinfo My son and I look forward to each and every one you do.
Love your videos Steve! Keep 'em up! I remember loving to go to the military surplus store when I was a kid in the 80's and buying an MRE to bring home to eat. So much fun. Except when you'd get the omelette. Yellow sponge of gross.
i love the comment section just as much as i love the videos, the amount of laughter i get from reading and watching this is just not normal!
/ Happy subscriber.
I know all the food he reviews in these videos are old. But it always makes me hungry.
I've been watching so many videos consecutively. This is awesome!
Happy to see you back!
Nice review as always! Can't wait for the second part of this RCW!
I love your enthusiasm Steve. You've got guts, no doubt about it.
Steve, the rarity of some of the rations you review is exceeded only by your enthusiasm. Keep up the good work.
"Its only 18 years old" I love that Keep up the great work!
These arctic ones are always so cool. Nice video man!
love your videos Steve! I enjoy your enthusiasm and passion for mres and now i pack sone when i go hiking!
Oh man this really takes me back, I grew up on a military base in alaska so they had plenty of those when I was a kid.
Hey yeah more vids!
+Steve1989 MREinfo actually this wasn't that bad it was in 1998 so probably it's fine I guess.
TRY A FOOD PACK FROM THE TURKY ARMY PLEASE!!!....
Nice.
New to your channel, love the way you describe the tastes and sensations of the meals. Nice job!
Man, I get concerned when my hummus is 1 day out of date. You just knock down chicken soup from 18 years ago. And even more concerning, that's quite recent for you! XD
Always love your content, keep it up!
Him eating an mre like it's nothing
Me casually licking a chicken bouillon cube
You are supposed to twist the top of the bag and then twist the keeper around the twisted bag like you do to a bread bag to seal it..
Excellent videos. Keep up the good work! Cheers!
I remember eating these units on camping trips for boy scout winter trips. They did exceptionally well, and kept us reasonably energized.
I think the closure strip is designed to close a twisted package (like a bread bag.). Once twisted, the closure strip goes around the twisted area and the two "ball ends" are overlapped.
I got out of the Army in 1998. I didn't know these even existed. Thanks for the video.
steve you are the best!! absolutely love your videos!!
Mmmmmm nothing says breakfast like fig bars and tootsie rolls!! Sometime I wonder about the sanity of the people who designed the menu choices when I was in.
"Lets get this out on a tray"....Nice! Steve1989 MREinfo 2016
Damn it Steve! I looked on Ebay for one, Saw one, and I bought it as soon as I was done with the video. I can't wait to see it. >.> Hope it was stored as well as yours.
Awesome to see that the 90's rations were well made compared to the current ones; nevertheless, kick-ass review.
Part 2 please !!! Keep up the good vids dude!
I use MREs at work (I'm a security guard) and i get 3 boxes a month from my uncle (He is in the Army) and usually gets them when there about to be thrown out due to being opened. They are so delicious and on a 12 hour shift its pretty good to have almost a full meal in such a small package! Love the videos and subscribed!
Still alive?
I didn't realize MRE reviews were a thing, but wow this guy kills it hahahaha. I don't know how I ended up here but I have a feeling I'll be back
Damn man, I would sit and watch your vids all day if I could!
I somehow got to one of these videos and can't stop watching them now (:
Love the videos Steve!
White closure strips for a cold weather ration, well, you weren't kidding when you said they weren't the best design. :)
Awesome video Steve, as always a pleasure to watch your work. :D
The year i was born :D
Nice!
same
me too broh 👍👍👍
hey, I think those fig bars aren't oxidized. I think the sugars got slightly dissolved from what little moisture that was present in the pack. Dissolved it and then slowly through time worked its way through the whole bar aging like a fine Christmas cake.
I'm new to this channel and I've got to say I enjoy these videos. Keep up the good work man.
Hey man love your intros to your ration vids, it reminds me of an old 1980s show lol.
I picture this guy sitting on a couch watching a movie eating these things. Like instead of wine and cheese it's old Ass mre's.
That looked so good! Damn it, Steve! You made me hungry! :PWell done and keep these great reviews comming! :D
Just found your videos. They are really interesting. I'm subbed! Thanks for doing these!
18 years. Still in almost perfect condition. I just can't believe it.
Finally have time to watch these again!
I still dont know why i watch these.
I thought something was off in the past few days, and I see this and realized that I was missing Steve's reviews
I was beginning to worrie about what had happened lol
And he's back! With three videos! :D
I've got the same buck knife! Go Steve!
Just Subbed. Pretty cool how you make sure you don't waste the foods/snacks that are good
Love learning new things and finding out that filberts are hazelnuts is pretty cool
Yeah new vids. Thanks Steve!
You are a bad ass version of andrew zimmern HEY TRAVEL CHANNEL!!! "bizarre mres." I'd watch.
We used to draw these for winter training. Used to mix the cider, with some tea, and some orange drink to make kind of a punch.
I think I enjoy your reviews better than anyone else's.... Well except for Emmy's maybe :)
Awesome video as always but try that with Arctic gloves on...🤔
I still think 1998 was just a few years ago :I
keep it up my friend interesting videos .... I sit watching for copious amounts of time 😂
This ration came in today for me. The granola bars were rancid but the oatmeal ones were tasty. And I finally got to try the cider, tea, and cocoa. Very cool
I use those nylon ties at work for wiring lol, the two pigtails twist together. So make a tight neck on the bag and twist the tie on. They dry up and can break also.
Great review I loved it
I swear, every time I watch one of his videos, I always get hungry. No reason, at all, I always get hungry.
I've watched so many of these videos that before starting a project I now say, "Let's get this out onto a tray."
Another awesome video!
I always get hungry with your videos. thanks!
This looks fantastic. I need to get one.
I'm addicted to these videos, old help
I love your pleasure sounds. It's like I can feel the food.
I've just stumbled across your account. Now I've subbed!
