and he's such a class act. No mention of JMV's absolute implosion. Just speaks glowingly about him. They don't make hollywood actors like Ernest anymore.
I, too, grew up watching Airwolf. And even tho Ernest may have been an actor, he really seemed like a person with a warm personality. And i will surely miss him. Airwolf without him is'nt just the same. R.I.P. Ernest Borgnine. Gone but not forgotten.
Mr Borgnine was a Real Class Act. i met him at the Greensboro GGO (Greater Greensboro Open) in 1982 pro-am golf tournament. i got his autograph, shook his hand and got to cut up with him alittle bit. me an 8 yr old kid tugging on his pant leg saying "Hey wheres the Lady?! I want a ride!" He got a big laugh outta that.
i named my son dominic after is character he really made the show , i was born in 84 so now at the tender age of 30 ill always have my lil dominic santini running around to remind me of this great man , god bless thanx for the memorys
Wow, Mr. Borgnine was a noble man for the way he complimented Jan-Michael Vincent. JMV had problems early into the 2nd season of Airwolf -- marital problems, alcoholism, showing up late to the set and, contrary to what Borgnine was saying, problems remembering his lines. He was the consummate professional in only telling the positive.
Met Ernie at a recent autograph convention in Chicago. He is as nice a guy in person as the character(s) he has played. Very open, genuine and warm! Love ya, Ernie!
What a full spirit this man has. He still appears to have the youthful exuberance he displayed decades ago. If I live to be his age, I want to have the clearness of mind & spirit that Mr. Borgnine has. The world is better having him still with us and he doesn't show any sign of leaving anytime soon.
Ernest has always been one of my all time favorite actors.. mostly due to his almost endless diversity in roles and their ranges. Of course, the first role that comes to mind when someone mentions his name, is his portrayal of the 'soft-hearted, (but always denying it), uncle-to-everyone' character from the TV show Airwolf, Dominic Santini.. But, following that memory, is probably my all time favorite character of his. Lyle 'Cottonmouth' Wallace (aka Dirty Lyle), a crooked sheriff. Great movie
He was 95 years old 2 weeks ago! Legend......I have just bought the boxset of Airwolf and feared he had died....how chuffed was I when I 'googled' Ernie to find he is alive and well......here's to a few more years at least Ern ;-) I am 35 so was 7 when this great series came out....best series of the 80's.....and today ;-)
Last night, i had a dream where Ernest appeared in and it got me crying because i know he is dead. 1 of my idols.that is dead. Now people tend to say that you can't control what you dream so i guess that that more or less means i really was a "Ernie" fan then.
It`s sad that we must live with many shit actors now but it is alot of good one still from the old times. But i wish that Ernest and Jan-Michael Vincent would be young like in airwolf and we could enjoy them alot since its not many good actors now days :( I will miss him and Vincent too. God bless Ernest heart i will always miss him :( He made my childhood perfect and im still watching airwolf on tv because they sending Airwolf at viasat4 here in norway everyday after midnight.
@volvot5turbo I'm 35 too and watched the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seasons in the mid to late 80s. So cool! All actors so lovable and those days were just golden ones. I bought Season 2 and 3 on DVDs few years back.
Good interview, but Mr. Borgnine got some facts wrong. Of course he was like 93 years old and AIRWOLF had ended 25 years ago. Number one: AIRWOLF's lair was simply a washed out mesa that had formed into a cave it was not a volcano. Number two: AIRWOLF was a full sized $2.5 million dollar Bell 222A helicopter... Number three: miniatures and rc helicopters were only used for extreme seens such as AIRWOLF flying out of cave... because there was not a full sized cave. Good interview though...
I'm a big fan of Mr. Borgnine! I didn't get a chance to check out Airwolf when it was on tv though. For me, his most memorable roles are 1) Sheriff Lyle Wallace- Convoy, 2) Cabbie- Escape From New York, and 3) "Mermaid Man"- Spongebob Squarepants! :-)
Problem with a new Airwolf: No recent helicopter looks as sexy as the good old "Lady" Bell 222. Even the later Bell 430 is close, but not that sexy - probably because of the 4 bladed main rotor.
May he live for manny more years, of cours never longer thanhe wants to . But he's one of the last of a very special generation and a propper legend for all his film and TV work. Didn't he do a lot of Cow boy films in the 60's and 70's. And he's in the Posidon adventure too isn't he?? or am Icompletely wrong about that. Any way he's done loads a' GREAT STUFF!
i would love to talk to someone that made airwolf i have a ideas to bring airwolf back and do it better that any one can i write the story and want to talk and meet them the other old tv show a manager of the the guy in the show loves my idea and i want to meet the maker of airwolf can someone help me out
A gentleman of the old school. He will be missed.
R.I.P really loved him in airwolf he was a really modest actor something rarely found today
and he's such a class act. No mention of JMV's absolute implosion. Just speaks glowingly about him. They don't make hollywood actors like Ernest anymore.
