I never really knew you outside of televison and the movies but you seem so genuine and down to earth...a real person. RIP: You made so millions of people happy and I am glad that you lived a long and happy life!
LOL that was great. It reminds of sitting and listening to my Grandmother and my other older relatives and their amazing life stories. Ernest seems like such a nice guy. Loved him on McHale's Navy.
Ernest Borgnine is without a doubt one of the LAST, TRUE, HONEST celebrities of his era. He was great as McHale as well as "Dom Santini" in 'AirWolf.' Sir: May you Rest in Peace, but your work will be with us forever.
ernie will always be McHale to me that show was magic tim Conway and the one and only joe Flynn I own them all on dvd whenever I need a laugh I watch McHales navy
I met him once. What an exuberant guy. The movie the producer was talking about was "Destination Gobi" (1953). So the true story took place in Mongolia not Africa (not bad recall since he never saw the movie) and filmed in Nevada. Richard Widmark played CPO Sam McHale, with Martin Milner (Route 66), Ross Bagdasarian (Alvin and the Chipmunks), and Leonard Strong (Get Smart-The Claw). Widmark also played Lt. Cmdr. Clinton Reed in "Panic in the Streets" (1950) so the producer mixed the two names.
I hope that if I should reach the age of 95 I hope to end like Mr. Borgnine.
Rest in Peace Sir.
