    I have used most of these and have stuck to using my own DIY wet palette using a glass microwave plate, paper towels & palette paper and cover it with a used chopping board to keep paint wet, similar to your DIY video. I just can bring myself to pay for the pricey common "staywet" boxed system! I will try the foil one day - looks so clean :) Thanks for your enthusiasm and sharing your ideas!

    AHHH I'm so excited for the DIY glass palette! My grandad bought me an easel (spelling?) fro my birthday in May and it came with a wood pallette and I love it so much. The only thing is that the paint doesn't come off easily (or, like, at all) but that's okay because I personally like the old dried paint look on a palette-- it makes me feel like an actual artist hahaha

    • @TheBuzzedArtist

      Lol right on, queen bee! The glass palette is way easier to clean for sure than a wooden palette haha 😂 but I know what you mean about feeling more like an authentic artist with the dried globs!

    Palette paper it is! lol. I'm a beginner and I have a small plastic palette, smaller than the one you showed, with no mixing area. I also have limited space and I loathe cleaning lol. I've used a bit of card wrapped in cling film, a cd case, and an unfinished wooden palette. And yes, that did stain the wood. I may look into how to fix that later XD If you're wondering, the cling film wasn't too bad, and I could actually clean it too, but after a few uses I started wearing a hole into it. If you do this DIY, change your cling film often and be sure it's taut, the acrylics did stick a bit but it wasn't nearly as bad as the CD case lol. I do not recommend CD cases for palettes. lol.

    Clear plastic plates with a bit of a rim, they sell them in bulk for weddings on Walmart online, super cheap! Think I paid under $7. For 150 plates, i like to keep one going for blue, one for greens, etc color grouping according to what i'm working on. I mist the paint with water and cover with pkactic wrap . They stay workable for days! I can let them dry and peel the paint off, or just toss them. I've saved a fortune in not wasting paint on a traditional size palette that gets too full of mixing. If necessary you can turn a free plate upside down as a lid ( over the plastic wrap) and tape the two plates together to stack and store to free up space momentarily ( like to call it a 🌙) and everything will be ready the next day 😊

      Typically, wood palettes are best suited for oil paint but it can work with acrylics too. It is a bit of a nuisance to clean up but if that doesn't bother you much, then by all means go for it.

  • @odeiminandsage
    @odeiminandsage 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Like, you - I think I have tried them all over the last 30 some odd years, and I always seem to go back to what works for me; the plastic palette {exactly like the one you showed, which I have multiples of, lol}, a large wooden round disk {I purchased the damn thing for a project via the internet and it arrived warped - so instead of dumping the thing, I primed it, coated it with Scotchguard, and just pile the paint on with no care in the world, lol}, and sometimes - I'll use my large acrylic board, which is an upcycle that my brother was going to throw away, I use it mostly when I'm making larger paint mixings otherwise - it's too BIG and bulky for me to bother with.
    A tip for those who use the plastic palette with the round wells... in order to slow down the paint from drying or forming a skin, take a round makeup sponge, spray both sides with water so it's very moist {top side and bottom side} and place the sponge on top... viola... the paint will stay good and moist for several hours so long as your sponge is wet. If paint gets on the sponge... just rinse 'em with water and reuse, over and over and over. I think I've been using the same makeup sponges on the round wells of my palette for ten years now and they're still holding up.
    Great ideas and tips, Amanda!!! I look forward to seeing how you make the tray palette, heck - I look forward to seeing you make ALL the things!!! Much love to you QB!!!

    RE: Cleaning plastic palettes, etc. Just put a bit of dish soap on them and let them sit for a few hours covered with water. You'll find they'll clean up much better. Also, grocery stores sell rolls of freezer paper [which is the same stuff as palette pads]. You can make custom size palettes, with no absorbing, and toss when done.

    Any tips for preserving paint on Palette Paper? I typically take a couple of days for my paintings and don't want my paint to dry out.

    • @TheBuzzedArtist
      @TheBuzzedArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oof yeah that’s a tough one. Besides spraying or lubricating the palette surface with water, perhaps you can place the entire palette in a sealable container. Basically, you want to find ways to trap the moisture so the paint won’t dry out as quick. It harder with paper as opposed to a tray, but definitely not impossible!

    • @TheBuzzedArtist
      @TheBuzzedArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may also want to consider getting a medium that slows the drying time of your paint.
