    This was helpful! I'm a beginner with acrylics and inherited a bunch of colors from a family member who graduated from art school, but some colors were missing. I wasn't sure which brand to go for, especially taking into account the cost as well.

  • @lesliesmith7312
    @lesliesmith7312 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I would say in the blues, violets and greens, black and white you’re fine going cheap. But with yellows you need to buy a higher quality color that has more pigment in it

    • @erin758
      @erin758 ปีที่แล้ว

      true! I bought a lot of different yellows from pebeo and liquitex and from all other brands for testing. I think liquitex HB and Amsterdam are decent choices, but I have settled to Marie's and Mont Marte's dimension acrylics.

    Une vidéo intéressante sur ces différentes marques, mais la peinture que j'utilise et qui est l'une des meilleures n'est pas présente dans vos comparaisons, c'est la Sennelier extra-fine qui est incroyable. Une très bonne continuation à vous.

    Very well done comparison. I'd actually challenge the results of the Detailed Coverage bit - if a half dozen layers of a transparent paint still let you see the detail, that's not a bad thing! It's a transparent pigment with transparent binder. Any paint which does cover it after a few layers might be more likely to have filler/binder in it.
    Your results are still super helpful though. And interesting to see

    4:15 NB: Winsor&Newton does two magentas, and the other one is single pigment PV19 (called Process Magenta) But I love your scientific method for comparison, VERY useful resource, especially with the neutralising complimentary! Also I’m interested in your choice of green, as PG7 pthalo green is usually given as the complimentary for pv19. How did you choose it?

    Great comparison. One note though- it doesn’t make a lot of sense to compare prices from different websites. For example, I’ve found consistently that the same products that are maybe $10 on Michael’s are only maybe $5-7 on Blick. Of course, Michael’s does have coupons all the time that bring the price you’ll actually pay a litttle closer (still usually not as good as Blick, but not such an extreme rip-off as the highly marked up prices they list)… But as far as list prices, it’s not like the prices at one site will be equivalent to the other, so this adds a whole other dimension that you’d need to account for (in addition to the different in paint volume per tube across different brands) in order to actually translate this into a fair, “all things being equal” comparison. Using an MSRP or something like that would probably be a simpler way to price them for comparison; otherwise, using the same site for all of them.
    But yeah, this is quite consistent with my experience, at least with Golden (very high pigment load, top quality, so it’s darker unless you water it down) & Liquitex Basics.

    an other good rewiew, Not surprise that golden Do better than other, golden is the one that put the righ amount of pigments in the tube
    Golden is very hard to beat in term of quality, this is my first choice brand, not only for the paint on the tube but for their customer service, website, and Always improuvement to Make the best
    liquitex basic is very poor pigmented, for nearly all color, blicks poor pigmented to as i've Seen for quinacridon magenta

      @@RachelleByersArt i make test to, and there IS no brand i have test that do better than golden, some Can be close on some pigments, but none of them IS better, for exemple i have 4 brands for pyrol orange PO73, the best is golden and Windsor et newton artis't acrylic, liquitex professionnal is not to far,
      the différence between liquitex basic and golden is insanely huge, to have the same level of pigmentation than liquitex basic, i have to add a lot of medium to golden, i think if you test New pigments i am pretty sure that golden will continue to trust the first place

    A good artist can overcome the shortcomings of any paint and good paint will not improve an artists talent! I have been using Acrylics for over 50 years and I remember most of them were either made in Europe or the U.S.A.. I currently only use Grumbacher Acrylics as they are made in the U.S.A.! ( Golden Acrylics are still U.S. made ) I do not buy Communist Chinese art supplies! When Liquitex Acrylics were made in the U.S. and Winsor Newton were made in France, I used them - no longer! ( Thank God Arches paper is still made in France and Faber-Castell colored pencils are still made in Germany! ( Stabilo watercolor pencils are made in the Czech Republic and ShinHan watercolors are still made in South Korea - both very underrated brands! Good video!
