I missed this type of video. I love informative videos and all the lovely, professionally edited videos you make, but I also love these walk-through types once in a while, they're fun.

Love the good news MOG 😊, I think the balance of good news and bad news in orchid hobby is just perfect. It reflects us as humas, love this channel for real 😍
My farmerii alba is also have 1 spike! It's hard for me to provide the drop in temperature. The lowest temperature is even not enough for my phal schilleriana to bloom and it sad that it puts out keikis instead of blooms.

I really enjoy this video and it is really nice to see mini updates of some of your Chids that has some issues. It’s nice to see it’s normal to see some set backs and we just need to keep at it. And it will be fine.

Oh yeah, plant personalities! Most of mine have some - either a little story, since I got most of them from discount shelf, plant swaps or garbage - or some growing quirks that make them special. There is just "something" about plants with backstories :)

Interesting comment about plant personalities...I tend to connect some of my plants with their stories and my experiences. As a result, I can never give up on them. As long as there’s a possibility I keep trying! Even if only a tiny amount survive, I feel that I did a something good! I am running out of space though😊

I love your channel SO much you are my second favorite TH-cam channel! Ty for sharing that sap on a vanda means its getting hydration. I've seen it on my Pachara Delight on its flower spike and didn't know what it indicated. Also, I truly believe that every plant is as individual as we are. They have feelings just as we do and taking their flowers away (unless necessary of course) takes away their hard work and pride. 🌸🌺💫☀️🌊

Hi. I've got my first Laelia. It came bare-rooted and healthy, with a small but plump flower spike. I was delighted. Still am. But I'm nervous about how I've potted it.
I'm not in a situation where I can attach it to some tree bark or similar. Instead, I've potted it, and for this summer and fall would like to keep it outside on my patio where it gets dappled morning sun. Initially I put it in a large and deep pot, to accommodate its roots. But I got nervous about it because by putting the roots deep into the pot, with pine bark and a little spanghum, I was also burying its older but still healthy psuedobulbs. I don't want them to rot as I believe they're helping to keep the plant growing.
So after about a week I reported it in a shallow, wide clay pot, still using chunky pine bark and spanghum. Now the old psuedobulbs can peek a bit of the morning sun. I've been drenching it every couple days, and the water drains rapidly. So far, so good. But because it's my first Laelia, I'm not confident I'm doing the right thing.
Summers here (north coast of Spain) are hot (23-33c+) and humid (70%+). Nights about 5c less.
Am I doing the right thing for my new baby? Should I go back to the deep pot? My goodness, this plant does seem a bit looonger than I anticipated.,

oh I definetly think of my orchids as individuals. Most of mine are rescue/dupster orchids so most of them have pretty good stories. There are a couple purchased as lockdown seedlings, but most I either got for free(fished out of a dumpster) or paid about $5 when they went on clearance at the grocery store floral shop.

Obligatory contrarian comment just to point out that I've been using seeweed fertilizer on my orchids for a little over 2 years now and never had any issues with flower deformities. I've used it both on complex hybrids and for about a year on a species (Caularthron Bicornutum) and all orchids are blooming ok (even the species). Granted, I only have around 40 orchids and still consider myself a newbie, I grow mostly on semi hydro even though some of my orchids are in bark or bark and moss. I dont know if the seeweed fert has any effect at all on my orchids, i use it along with an orchid fertilizer I got at a garden center. I'm not doing any double blind scientific study to prove one way or another any time soon but just wanted to offer another perspective.

I think I have some of those orange dendrobium or something very much like it.... I've had them for a few years now, one is 4 feet tall, but it hasn't bloomed since I moved to a place without much sun. Btw, I was keeping them outdoors. Now I've brought some cuttings inside and relocated the pot that is outdoors to a spot that gets summer sun, but I'm worried it will be too much!

Oh my orchids have quirks. I ask them frequently what the F they're doing. 😆
I have one very weird Phal at the moment. I really have no clue what it is doing. I don't know if it's decided to grow a keiki out of the middle of the crown. Because right now it's just a tube with a leaf on the end of it and it looks like it's growing something else from the center of the tube and I can't decide whether it looks like a flower spike or not. I haven't seen an orchid doing that before so I have no experience with it.
All that I can tell right now is that whatever it is doing, it is still growing. I bought it last year, I believe it's the one I got in November that decided it wasn't going to grow for 4 months and now it's just growing weird. It's completely malfunctioned. 😆
My keiki siblings at least are behaving currently, after I managed to split their new leaves apart, they both appeared with a new leaf that was "fused" down the middle and looked like half a leaf. One opened on its own and the other I could carefully pry apart. These two are from the same mother plant (they are 1 year apart), so they're genetically identical. So I figured the "fused" leaf is a family thing.
The mother plant to my keiki's decided it wasn't going to support its newest leaf while growing a keiki, so it's completely shriveled up. I don't know what is up with that either. But hey, it's supporting its keiki, so I can't really complain. I am just worried it won't be able to grow new leaves if the growth node in the crown has shriveled up too.

I have a random question, anyone in the comments welcome to answer. I've noticed that my new roots on my phals stop growing once they reach the orchid bark I have them potted in? What could be the reason for that?

Shannon if they are mini Phalaenopsis they may like AAA sphagnum moss with small Monterey bark chips. I grow my Phals in Repotme’s Imperial orchid mix. Never had trouble getting roots to go into the pot. I also use Orchitop Carousel pots with great air flow.

I accidentally forgot my orchid soaking in the kitchen for 3 hours. Did I kill it? I normally soak it for 15 min a week, but I put it in the bowl with water, went back to work and totally forgot. Please tell me it will be okay! I’m so stressed. It’s a large Phalaenopsis orchid with two spikes. One flowered and one getting ready to open with 9 buds. I’m heart broken that I damaged it. Gift from my sons years ago!!!!

Is there a way to prompt an orchid to grow more roots? I have one I bought from the local supermarket and when I replanted it most of the roots were damaged and had to be removed leaving 3 stubs and now the leaves are droopy and dehydrated. I have sphagnum moss on the roots and water regularly but while it grows small leaves it just doesn't seem to grow anymore roots.
