    “I understand
    And don't care
    Well the skyscrapers look like gravestones
    From out here” - Diab Soule
    Something about that lyric. I love it.

    Sammy Duet is very underrated as a guitarist, I think. His contribution to both Acid Bath, Crowbar and especially Goatwhore always guarantee cool riffs galore! Like you, that 'Apocalyptic Havoc' song has always been a favorite of mine; so damn catchy! 🤘🤘

      Sammy is definitely the secret glue in the NOLA scene, love that he even is the one who showed everyone that the metal zone made for a great boost pedal which Kirk has used since in crowbar

    I have been a huge Acid Bath / Dax fan since I first heard Acid Bath in 1996. I'v seen Dax a ton of times and would often travel to other states and even schedule some business trips to areas I knew he was playing. He has been MIA for about 10 years now and nobody really knows what he is up to, although most reports state that he has a lot of music written. I think he only lived in the Austin area for a few years back in the Deadboy days and has been back in Houma for years. I really hope he resurfaces with some new music and touring.

    The new Chapel record definitely rings of Tribulation. I think it's primarily in the vocals and the way the lines are constructed. But I agree, it's a tremendous album and definitely the best thing I've heard this year.

    You need to get together with Dave Lombardo, David Ellefson, and Chuck Billy and do an album. You could call the band Nate Garrett.

    Slayer, is one of my favorite bands of all-time. Any genre. Seen them many times LIVE(first show was in 88’(Overkill/Motorhead supporting) caught them 2x on the SOH tour.
    So, they are in my Pantheon of metal bands. But you are correct(imo) Kerry, is/was the most replaceable. If* a member had to be removed/replaced. 🤘

    I've always championed Hanneman, he has way more classic compositions in Slayer than Kerry by far. I like Divine Intervention a lot, and it's easily Kerry's best outing. It's way downhill after that.

    nobody, outside of few people very close to the band, doesn't know exactly how they did those songs that are written together. once, i was in situation to help to friend of mine to put several songs. he wrote all riffs, but i helped him to structure songs and make them playable in a band. theoretically, he wrote all songs, but without me, those will be just a bunch of solo riffs.

    • @brandonjackson5865

      What you did was help arrange the songs and bands usually have a member who’s better at arrangement than the rest for instance Lars is the arrangement guy In Metallica “play that riff four times and then do the walk down thing into the chorus riff “ . That’s why Lars has so many songwriting credits because he arranges them and James shares the songwriting credits with him. Not necessarily every band would share writing credits with an arrangement guy but arrangement is very important because of exactly what you said.

    Kerry was NOT over the nu metal stuff. Out of the two of them only Kerry King had a seven string guitar made for him and used it. Jeff never did. Not all of DIM was written by Jeff, just the good songs, like on any Slayer record including all later material like Christ Illusion, GHUA and WBP

  • @brandonjackson5865
    @brandonjackson5865 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I never thought about it I absolutely agree with with you about Kerry being the most replaceable member of Slayer he sorta became their Mascot in the 90s and on with his edge what people think a metal head looks like outfits. Come on with those chains and leather pants man , thrash was all about the fans becoming the musicians and wearing their street clothes on stage and hear we have KK locking like he walked out of a Blackened Hot Topic or something. He’s an asshole but rock and heavy music needs more assholes more than ever. King is a fantastic thrash Rhythm player but Slayer died with Jeff I respect Gary Holt filling in and playing those songs live and think he’s awesome and seems like a great guy. I think King might have been the businessman in Slayer or sorta assumed that role when they discovered business wasn’t being taken care of ? I actually love Devine Intervention but I’m not a huge Slayer fan I like them more than Anthrax then Metallica and Megadeth is my favorite out of the “big four” mainstream Thrash I guess ?
    I think it would have been more interesting to hear KK try something different than Slayer 2.0 I think he and Jeff as a team created a legendary sound and it’s Slayer and there ain’t no Slayer without Jeff.
    It’s really simple who would you rather have a beer with Lombardo or King lol ? It’s hard to separate the way he acts from his art because he can be exhausting being so hard and serious all the time. He simply can’t be as hateful and miserable as he comes off it’s got to be an act a work that he thinks is cool or edgy or something whatever ?

    Cool shirt Nate! I love Phantasm. As for Kerry King's new music, I didn't like it. Very boring and "stock" as you said. Not my cup of tea at all.
    In addition to the songs you mentioned that were written by Kerry King, I have always liked Skeletons of Society on Seasons. That's a Kerry King song. But I agree that he was definitely not the creative driving force in Slayer.
    As far as Kerry King as a person, I don't know him. But he seems like a real piece of work.

    I'll tell you a secret: all of KKs riffs have been AI the entire time because KK wrote em.
    I say this as a shameless KK apologist,: at his age I'd honestly be surprised if he's got anything else in him but the same thing he's been doing since 1985.

    • @mikeynoclass8240
      @mikeynoclass8240 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Except this is nothing like what he was doing in 1985. If it was like Hell Awaits, it would actually be good.

      You’ll appreciate this… 2004 I went to ozzfest, 16 years old. Waited in line FOREVER to meet slayer. Got up to the table, no Jeff. Asked K where Jeff was and he said “oh he doesn’t do this type of stuff.” We turned around and walked away. Took him down a peg for ya bud 😂

      @@BornTooNateSo Kerry at least took the time to talk to the fans, and Jeff didn’t give a shit? And still you’re dissing Kerry?
      Also, I think Slayer as we know it wouldn’t have been the same without either Jeff or Kerry. They started playing together in their late teams, they wrote a lot together, I’m sure they influenced each other. Jeff being more of a punk/hardcore kid and Kerry more of a traditional metal kid, it rubbed off on each other. If either of them wasn’t around in 82/83, we sure wouldn’t have Reing in Blood as we know now.
