Poor guy he was so caught up how good he was at Bolton that he probably or genuinely forgot he is Nigerian and played for his country. But I totally get what he says though
Having myself been through the apprenticeship twice of learning a new language, it is commendable that he takes into account the fact that, for most of those he is speaking to, English is only their second language so he is spacing out his words and enunciating them clearly. Frankly, if more people had done that for me, I would have progressed my understanding of those other languages much faster. Steve is to be commended for his awareness and courtesy and not criticised.
But that's not why he did this. He was being a 'European manager' because he was managing in Europe. It's incredibly and unintentionally very funny. But, for sure, he wasn't doing that to be helpful...
I do the same. Talk to a French person in my normal English voice and they do not understand. I say the same with a Clousseau voice and I am understood 😅 1:40
