Love and friendship triumph in Carlos Acosta's vibrant production of this dazzling ballet. Don Quixote is one of Marius Petipa's much-loved 19th-century classics - its story is drawn from Miguel de Cervantes's classic novel and set to Ludwig Minkus's score. The ballet has long been acclaimed for its virtuoso dancing, beautiful and technically demanding 'vision scene' and the famously bravura and breath-taking Act III pas de deux. - บันเทิง

This is the ONLY version or performance I have seen, where the the couple actually dance as though they’ve just said their “I dos!” It’s like a miracle come true for me! For decades I’ve tried reminding dancers that there should be awe and love and respect in this pasdedeux, not show-off tricks, but NO ONE would try it that way. Now, I see it and for the first time in fifty years(!!!) this pasdedeux brought tears to my eyes!
Don’t know if it’s Acosta’s coaching or the choice of these two dancers, but THANK HEAVEN for this rendition!! I’ve waited decades! Thank you Marianela and Vadim!(and Carlos). God, I’m glad I lived to see this videoed performance!!
Yes! It’s like an actual conversation, with a back and forth connection. Vadim seems to have an unusual ability to *show* the connection with his partner, at least with Marianela and earlier Daria.

This is the first time I’ve seen anyone begin to arch backwards at the tail end of her turns a la seconde before he comes in to take her waist into a penché. So beautiful!!
She is out of this world! She does a similar action in the Odette variation in the lame ducks en diagonale - incredible sense of centre.
So true. I caught my breath and my eyes opened wide - I had never seen that before, but if you think about it, the movement is completely in character for Kitri. There were no pyrotechnics as so often, but instead many small moments where Nunez and Muntagirov gave us the real meaning of the PDD.
For anyone wondering when that is, if I'm not mistaken it's around 2:43. Breathtaking indeed!

Who wouldn't melt if Nela smiled at them like that?! You can tell they have a genuine affection for each other and a nearly perfect understanding of each other's physical presence.
No one at the rb has a gorgeous smile like hers. Its part of her appeal and looks so natural, a heavenly dancer and beautiful person. Shoukd be ASSOLUTA

Beautiful, pure art , it is so enjoyable to see, clean technique and stunning performance. Lately dancers only worry about high extensions, making a lot of pirouettes, like it's gymnastics. Is refreshing to see such an amazing chemistry and artists

Love love love this performance. Vadim is my favorite dancer. Exquisite technique, beautiful line, simplicity, elegance. I could watch him all day. Marianella is beautiful as always.
They do not need extreme extensions or overdone leaps to dance this pas de deux.
The subtlety of the steps, the beauty of the line and unhurried execution are stunning.

That whole occasion was wonderful, the Royal Ballet having been shut down for so long. All the performers were so delighted to be there, and it showed throughout the evening. The entire Royal Ballet pulled out the stops, and it was a joy to behold. Bravo, our great Royal Ballet!

Her control throughout but especially exiting those balances is astonishing and sets her apart, in my mind, as prima ballerina and a cut above most other ballerinas. Also, to find amusement for herself in this number. Never seen it performed with that interpretation.
Such a playful interpretation and wonderful interaction with each other and the music, underscored by amazing technique.

@@-ked-845 Muntagirov has wonderful partnering skills. We saw it early in his career with Daria Klimentova, with whom he learnt a lot and it has carried through to all his partnerships, but he and Nunez are particularly well suited to dance with each other.

I have never seen two dancers more in sync. They were mezmerizing.
Couldn't have asked for a better start to the day. She is my fave. I can't get enough of her. She doesn't throw her legs up by her ears, she isn't anorexic, she doesn't need to be. She is all control and artistry, a gift to all of us. Muntagirov is so wonderful too. And, yes, he has gotten better looking. 🙂
You are right...she mesmerizse us without "fireworks". She is an ARTIST with capital letters.

Anorexic ? If they are they couldn't finish a number. They train so hard and no need to
diet and they must eat balanced meal to sustain energy. Unfortunately some people
just doesn't have the shape that are not well suited to classical ballet but you see many
different body types in other dance forms.
If you're talking body shaming what about women who are too tall for ballet ?

I enjoy the private moments that they share...that causes her to really smile and even giggle.
Thank you for describing what I was thinking too. She has so much an internal 'presence' that when I watch her connect with that in those moments a feeling of peace and quietness comes over me! I have watched this many times just to get my 'fix' .
I wonder if these two ever tire of their own perfection? 😍🤩 They are a dream to watch together and one could only dream of attaining that level of technical control and mastery. Tears of joy to watch them. Can’t wait to one day dare to go home 🇬🇧🤞🏾and see them perform on stage in my hometown and at a theatre where I spent many happy hours dancing myself🙏🏾 (thank you Lord). How absolutely amazing to see this pas de deux done with such elegance and sweet chemistry, as opposed to the empty and tacky bravado that's usually the case. Marianela adds touches of style and artistry that makes the work new and unique.
You’re absolutely right. I think it’s often forgotten, when danced out of context as a gala piece, that this is Basilio and Kitri’s wedding pas de Deux and should be danced as such and not as a party piece. Nunez and Muntagirov here dance it as a couple in love, proud and happy to be finally married - as it should be.

I remember seeing a documentary about Vadim’s beginnings in the company. He was so shy and uncertain but hopeful about his future. Well he’s made it and how 👏👏👏
It’s a great documentary but that was when he was in English National Ballet. He joined the Royal Ballet later.

Partnering Marianela has got to have helped, her technique is so good it frees him to express himself, then her personality and warmth would’ve been encouraging. And top of this she’s obviously a fan, I remember watching a rehearsal where she spontaneously burst into applause when he finished.

Very true. They have taken choreography that is trotted out and danced at every single gala on the planet, and finally made it mean something, transcending technique to express the intimate inner feelings of Kitri and Basilio. I had to remember to breathe while watching them dance!
