    Nice, I have the same machine but my guards were broken or lost years ago and someone made sheet metal guards for it. These little machines work awesome.

      I agree they are really cool machines for there size. I have to get busy and get some more guards cast, but there just is not enough time for everything.

    Nice little machine. The mills were cool too. I'd like one of each to play with.

    It's funny when mills came out you couldn't give a shaper away as it's been said you can make everything but money with one.
    Fast forward and now you have a new generation of metal workers that are rediscovering the many virtues of the shaper. It's not practical for everything but does somethings well like cuting internal keyways, gears and many more functions. If your in hurry or want to program something look else wear, but for truing up parts or getting a fantastic finish a shaper may be the best choice. In Aboms case he has both power feed across, but also vertical power feed which opens up some additional options.

      Hi Scott: rather than writing a reply here I shot a short video addressing the popularity since I think it is more complicated than just saying they have become popular again. You can find it here th-cam.com/video/i9oMd5Eakak/w-d-xo.html Thanks, Dan.

      congratulations, they are a fun machine.

      don't get to caught up in actual Atlas parts such as the rotary table. If you are getting them as collectibles to keep everything Atlas then that is fine, but they are exceptionally expensive for what they are. if you want them to do actual work with then there are import items such as rotary tables which are better options for less money, belts can be sourced locally, I will try and find the numbers, but you can match what you have from the local Auto parts store. Good luck.

    Hello Mr hill I just got my self a 7 inch atlas shaper I was wondering if you would know were I can pick up some oil cups and the grease cups both grease cups are missing thanks for your time.

    • @hillsgun
      @hillsgun  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the oil cups you should be able to find them at the industrial supply stores such as McMaster Carr, look for Gitts oilers , I don't know of a supplier of the grease cups. I started settling up tooling to build them but have not finished yet.
