    Years ago when I was a little girl, my Aunt crocheted these, but she called them Ding-a-lings. She made my sister and I every color imaginable. She didn't have any girls, only boys. So she enjoyed making these for us. Now I make them for the little girls on my block. I just wanted to share with you what I've known these to be. This is a great tutorial !

    I experimented and did 30 ch + 3 ch. And used half double crochet instead of double crochet cuz i wanted it to be long and thin. Im satisfied with the result. Thank you for the tutorial

    Thank you for this tutorial. I used to make them into hair ribbons back in the 1970’s and couldn’t remember how. Brings back sweet memories of pigtails in high school.

    Thank you for this video, Brittany. It's the best I've seen so far, slow and to the point. I'm trying to teach myself how to crochet. I make dolls and I want to make some of them with hair made out of curlicues.

    I am making my first amigurumi. It's going to be a jellyfish, but they just used chains for the tentacles and I wanted curly's. I was scared to find out how hard they would be, but then I found your video. I can not believe that's all they are!! You have made me very happy. :D

      My great grandmother made me an octopus with these curles but not as tight of a curl and very long and I loved it. Not sure what happened to it but wish I had to pass to my kiddo.

    I've been trying so hard to make good curls, you can wrap them around each other for candy canes and wreaths (ornaments) and my curls always come out terrible. Whenever I crochet into the chain I always crochet under the second loop but after watching this I tried crocheting under just the top loop and my curls are nice and tight and springy. Thanks so much.

    Thank you! I am working on some cat toys for a local rescue and it's essentially a ball with a curly cue at the end. My curl wasn't forming correctly. Your video helped me realize that a double crochet gives it better structure (I was doing singles) and that you have to help form the curl a bit as well. I couldn't figure out why mine weren't automatically a nice curl.

    Great tutorial once I figured out the stitches used and that they were worked three times into the same stitch before moving on. This is my first crochet project so after going and watching how to make the 3 basic stitches, I came back here and made this. Came out great! Thank you! Not bad for my first time ever! I do suggest perhaps a slow down and showing more specifically where the different parts of the stitches are for working the same stitch 3 times and then picking up the next stitch (just because this is for beginners) but it was great anyway. Nice close-up of the work!

    I used to make these, but couldn’t remember how. Thank you for sharing it! My granddaughter’s trying out for cheerleader on Friday. Their school’s colors are red & white with black trim. If I made these red & white I’d trim the outer part with shiny black bugle beads so all the cheerleaders have some for their hair. Do y’all think teenagers would wear them for cheerleading? Like wrapped around and dangling from a pony tail?

    This is a great video. Easy to follow. I want to make a curlicue at least two feet long, then hot glue to a 1 feet dowel rod (5/8) and make a fabulous cat toy snake. My cat loves hers so much and playing with it helps us spend quality time together. I want to make more to give to my cat lady friends. I think the multi-colored yarn makes the best looking ones.

      3:45 She explains what makes a double crochet and how to start it, and why you need extra chains when starting a double crochet row. The only thing she doesn't explicitly say is "a double crochet is literally just two crochets, that is what double means." You can always set the video speed to 0.5

    • @sandyhausrath
      @sandyhausrath 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with Debbie. The video starts by explaining how to make a slip knot, so I thought this was going to be VERY basic. Then she starts on the double crochet and just *does* it -- without explaining which chain to work into or what to do after the yarn over -- while chattering about something else. It's fine for people who already know how to crochet and just want to know how to make a curlicue (which is the actual name of this), but a video for absolute beginners it's not.
      ETA: also, she says something like "this combination of yarn and hook makes a 6-inch curlicue" but I didn't hear what size yarn or hook she was using.
