Listening to the audio on another Go2 it's so much more clear than mine. So you can ignore the Go2's audio in the audio comparison part of this vid.
Thanks for that. It would be good if you could stamp the actual video with that info……I nearly missed this comment. Many thanks for a great video though 👍
This is a fantastic comparison. Super helpful and very well produced video. My gosh. Must have taken you a week or so. Nice music and great overvoice. Thanks so much
Brilliant, fair, and informative comparison! Props to Insta 360 for facilitating your comparison! For me, the difficulty of file management keeps me from purchasing any kind of camera of this type for now. Using my iPhone is the easiest solution for quick videos. Maybe someday there will be a little camera that automatically streams usable files to an iPhone while recording, or easily exports automatically.
Yooo this was a pretty good review! I’ve reached out to Insta360 to see if I can review the Go2 again. Because I had a terrible experience with the Go2 when I tried to review it the first time. It kept running out of battery, the quality was pretty bad, it had a weird drift when walking into frame.. and a few more things.. but since then.. insta360 reached out after seeing my video and gave me a bunch of fixes and were super cool. They have the best customer service. I actually really like the action 2. It’s what I wanted the insta360 to be.. but Apart of me wishes it was a bit better and really hoping for an update soon. I haven’t had any over heating with it.. but Dude I did run into the same problem with transferring the footage for the Dji action 2. But then found out that when you take out the sd card and plug it into the computer.. you can access all the internal files.. I heard that you may not even need to take out the sd card. Great review man!
I highly doubt your conclusion.4:43 really cannot get where go2 steady is better. 5:00 can you see the dynamic range here?go2 cannot control the sun light,ac2 provides a obviously more clear footage. 5:57, the glare of go2 makes the tree on the right top fade. your taste is for such low contrast??
A good comparison! I really appreciate the concept of wearable cameras! It's nice that it is continuously evolving with more tech-advanced features! The Insta360 Go 2 is a great cam but with launch of the Action 2, we now have a new option which has more features and better video and image output!
I would love to have a Go 3 that does support higher temps! 15ºC outside is something that we barely have in my country! I would love to see one action camera that takes tropical countries into consideration and support 30~36°C under sunlight and could record at least 1h straight under these conditions
Thanks for this, and also to Insta 360 for making this comparison possible. I’m hugely disappointed in the Action 2; I was hoping for something totally different than what they released. I’m really interested in the Insta 360 Go2, but am waiting for the next generation to be released in the hope that the resolution is bumped up a bit. The Action 2 is a definite no go for me. Thanks for this!
Same, I got Go2 but returned it. Nice camera, but the battery time is really annoying, and I had heating issues when recording. I will wait for the Go 3 (maybe 4k 30/60, 64/128 Gb, better battery). Let’s see!
I'm using the Osmo Action and would definitely use the Go2 over the Action 2 as a second camera. DJI Should have launched the Action 2 as a "GoPro like" Action cam and the current magnetic version separately as Action Maget or so.
What did I just stumble up on?! I came for the review but love the story and entertainment! Then a death fight to end it!! Wow this was Weirdly awesome!
If you turn up the ISO in the Action 2 the low light stability works about 90% better as it can then attain higher shutter speeds. If the Action 2 was priced at $400 with the screen mod and $300 with the battery mod I think it would be the better pick. But honestly at the current prices I also feel like the GO 2 wins this IF your comparing features that ONLY the GO 2 is capable of. However, with the Action 2 you can add external audio, you can get better video quality, better battery life, and have more storage with the SD card. So overall for total features the Action 2 ist the winner, even with the over the top price. But that's just my two cents.
Nice review! Was deciding which one to buy but ended up going with the Action 2 as the higher resolution works better for me. There have been considerable improvements such as a free magnetic case that extends the recording time. Also got a 3rd party tempered glass to protect the screen which mitigates the non-replaceable lens issue.
I own both of these and prefer the Action 2. With my Go 2 I can only get about 15 min of video before it is filled up. With the action 2 I can record a lot more video, and just plug it into the second screen and transfer the files without needing to carry around another device and cables to transfer to. The Go 2 batter is pretty lacking. if I don't run out of storage, the battery dies, or vice versa. I do agree that the action 2 low light performance is pretty disappointing and results in the "vibration" effect shown in your shots. Little bugger does get hot though, but I tend to use 4k 30 fps as I think the resulting video looks more natural.
Lots of true points there. I've started to like the Action 2 a lot more since they released the case and upgraded the firmware to give us much longer run times. Also, they added horizon levelling in 4K. It's a much better camera now than it was when I did this video. The Go2 is still really special though, when you accept the shortcomings that come with its tiny size.
@@Roos-Reviews I do love how light the go2 is. Using the magnetic hat clip is really quite fantastic. One thing about the go2 software that really bugs me is that after installing it, I get a pop up whenever I plug any data device into my tablet. Haven't found a way to suppress that. Maybe I missed something in the initial setup.
Yes you're right about that! It's so amazing how these tiny things can produce stunning content at such great quality! Not to mention the innovative features built into them! The Action 2 most specially! The magnets are very revolutionary IMO and the quality of the shots are just on another level!

How the hell do you have less than 10k subs?!?! Genuinely hope this channel blows up and my fellow Scotsman gets the recognition he deserves! Currently in a mind battle between the Insta360 Go 2, DJI Action ONE (the two is a massive let down) and the GoPro 10 as I'm still using the GoPro Silver 4 and videos like this are invaluable in coming to a final decision! Great review as always!
You forgot to talk about insta app which is amazing for editing! Excellent comparison and I couldn't agree with you more! Big hug from Argentina! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I've had the Original Go and loved it, especially the ring finger adapter that made it so easy to walk around and Vlog. I upgraded to the Go 2 and kept the rin finger adapter and it fits snug and gets a little warm but I don't care as when I film it looks like I am just holding my hand up. Anyway my last two videos I shot with the Go 2 and my iPhone and it was so freaking convenient just to whip out the Go and film, snap to a hat, or my chest adapter. I also bought the "Adapter package" which lets me mount to more stuff and gives me a more streamlined option when breaking the camera out on the small invisible stick. The color I really don't care bout as I tweak it and use Luts anyway so I shoot Log.
I was a bit confused by the audio test but I vlog so voices would've been my default. Thanks for the video. Now I'm interested in the action 2 vs action vs go 2 on the saturation and voice audio.
Facts @ tech. I was unimpressed with the go 2 and I'm unimpressed with the action 2. I still may get the action 2 sadly. That form factor is hard to beat
@@Doulou83 I wouldn’t get neither for photography.. After using both for some time now (dji action 2 unboxing pending) I would say the action 2 is a better buy. It’s a very sleek piece of kit that’s a definite conversation starter 🫡
At last!! Someone else who has the same problem with connecting the Action 2 to their PC that I had! But given that only you and me have visibly complained about it, it must be a local issue. [Edit - now I see you are using Windows 7 which may be unsupported OS for this device]. In the end I did a normal Windows update and also deleted the device driver in Windows and restarted (twice). Eureka, problem gone, and when connecting the Action 2 to the PC I now see two drives, one for the camera and one for the SD card - very straightforward. The ability to copy from camera to card 'in the field' is a big plus in my view - when in 'holiday mode' it's a pain to do this with the Go 2 - you have to take a laptop or phone with lots of spare memory or (in my case) a USB OTG hub with card reader to do the same thing. Clear win for the Action 2 in that respect. Which is better? That depends so much on user needs. They have some obvious similarities and some equally obvious differences. The Action 2 can fulfil roles that the Go 2 can't at all. But it costs significantly more. I'd say 'if all you need is the Go 2, buy that one'. That sounds like I'm damning it with faint praise but I don't mean to. When mine was destroyed in a fall (the screen protector was fine but everything else wasn't...!) I was really sad - I loved the little chap - but I decided to replace it with the Action 2 and for the most part I'm happy that I did. I've not encountered overheating problems in real life use (and most users seem to be saying that - in contrast to those putting it on a desk with 25% of the heat sink covered...) and the audio options are in a different league from the Go 2. For me, audio in video is crucially important, and being able to connect mics and headphones easily to the Action 2, not to mention its class-leading built in audio system, is a huge plus. Maybe that's getting away from the action camera role. Anyway, great comparison, thanks to Insta360 for making it possible!!
Well said, Peter! Lots of good points there and you're someone who has owned both, so you're speaking with experience. In my experience it still overheated when using it outdoors filming my dog. I set it to 2.7K30 to avoid this but I would rather be able to record lots of consecutive clips at 4K60 or 2.7K60 without it squeezing me down to shorter and shorter time limits with each recording. It's cold here now but I can't imagine how this would be useable in the peak of summer. I love the build quality and the size (without the modules). If the camera was available and fully functional without the modules, at a much lower price I would be more excited about it and could live with the problems. But at a cost of $770 CAD I can't yet forgive the 3-7 minute run times and the modular thing just isn't for me, though I can see why some people like that.
@@Roos-Reviews Personally I think of it as a one piece camera. But if on relatively rare occasions I can only get the shot I want with the camera detached, then I've got that option, limited by less battery and storage size and a bigger chance of overheating. But - them's the laws of physics!
I should tell you that some months after I made this video DJI largely solved the overheating problem for non-European models. It's a much better camera today than it was back then.
I've been using both cameras for FPV quadcopter footage recording, so I can tell my opinion on both. As for the GO2, I've been using it for more than a year. I have to give a huge thumbs up to the Insta360 for making such small and lightweight but still pretty decent action cam. Despite the fact it's limited to 1440p resolution, the 80Mbps bitrate isn't really bad at all and the output is more than enough for sharing on social network. Bad thing about it is the battery life. When I got it, I was able to make solid 15-16 minutes of Pro Video recording in 1440p@30fps. After a year of use, battery life went down almost 50% which made the GO2 pretty much unusable without any kind of external power supply. The Action 2 that I bought a two months ago, definitely has an advantage in video output quality and the slightly bigger sensor gives it a little more of a dynamic range to it. Can't really tell much about the battery life (the time will tell) but obviously the big downside of A2 is the durability. It has a nice aluminum body and modular system but the back screen of the camera module is definitely a weakest spot. I already had to use the Care refresh replacement when the AMOLED screen snapped in half during (not very heavy) headbump into tree when the camera in TPU printed mount swung back against the quadcopter battery. The front glass came out of it without a scratch. A little downside for Gyroflow stabilization users is the limited range of resolutions to use. The camera can't include gyroscopic data for 3rd party stabilization in any other resolution than 4K (sometimes the 2.7K would be enough for me but I'm forced to record in 4K and downscale in post. Over all it's a nice compact action cam and I'm keeping it for now.
I used to favor the 360 over GoPro especially with the size but now it's Action 2 for me over insta360. They added a magnetic case to the Action 2 for less heating and longer recording time.
Would you believe i only just watched this! Excellent comparison. Having spent months trying to choose my next camera, often tempted by your reviews, i have decided to revisit the ones i already have, including the Go 2 and the Action 2. And really, they are all i actually need. I think...
Brilliant comparison!! I have g2 and just not happy with the colour, contrast and quality ,,. Nifty little tool but really does not compare to the action 2 or GoPro 8/9/10 .. quality wise. The Go2 has a weird brown / yellow ish tone and just not sharp and detailed enough . Great vid . Subbed
amazing review. you have such a chilled and relaxing voice. 👍🏼i love the insta 360 go 2. only thing i dont like is that in the app you can not export your videos with the prores 422 codec. or am i missing something ?
Great comparison video. I think the audio test is a little misleading. I believe but can't confirm that the Go2 has some kind of sound compression in camera that keeps it from clipping at loud volumes. I think that is what was happening since the audio you were playing was getting on the loud side. I find this feature actually to be good because I shoot in loud night clubs some times and it makes the audio not clip where as my Pocket 2 may clip even if I set it to the lowest mic settings. The Go2 will take most of the highs out and it sounds like you are in a fish bowl but the audio isn't clipping though. Great comparison once again.
Thanks for the comment, but that's not what was happening. The audio is the same when I'm just talking into the camera in a quiet room. I wonder if mine is just damaged after all the dunking into rivers and lakes I've done to it. I just looked up someone else's audio test of the Go2 and it sounded way better than mine.
@@Roos-Reviews that might have something to do with it. Lol. The audio on mine is so so. It's good enough in general. Better than the on-board mic of the Fimi Palm for sure.
I have the Go2 and have no temptation to get the DJI Action 2. I think the Go2 is a better action camera, but for higher quality highly portable stabilised camera recommend the DJI Pocket 2
Could you tell us the best settings for the Insta Go 2? Especially, what settings were you using in the low light footage? I struggle getting good pictures there And which firmware, because there are three color settings in the camera: LOG, Standard and Vivid (which is more like what you wanted)
I've been using the Go 2 for some time now and maybe it's me but I can't seem to get the sort of video quality a lot of the youtubers get out of it. Are all your samples unedited straight out of the camera or are you color grading them or doing some form of post production? When I travel I'll typically film with both my GoPro Hero 8, IPhone 13 Pro, and Go 2 but whenever I combine the footage, the Go 2 footage always looks so bad that it's basically unusable if combined with footage from the IPhone or GoPro. Thoughts?
Thank you so much for this. I am looking fir and FPV camera to interview people impromptu (with permission of course)… was thinking the DJI Action 2 but the overheating makes it a non-starter. Even the Go2 seems like an issue. I appreciate your effort here but I may need to expand my search as I was unaware at the limited run time even without the overheating. Thank you for the time and money you have saved me already!!
With the DJI case on and the current firmware, the action 2 doesn't really overheat at 4K30 anymore. This video is several years old now and since then the issue was largely solved. But if you want to record in hot sun for long curations, I would recommend another camera.
great video! May I ask what parameter did You choose when You record the videos? at 5:23, Is it wide, linear or narrow? Coz my videos are always distorted but your video looks great And not distorted. thx.
The BIG thing between the two here.. DJI at $520. Go 2 at $270 (Black Friday sale). Even at the full price of $300 for the Go 2, it's a no brainer. Lol, I just ordered a GoPro Hero 10 bundle for $414 USD with sales tax. I'm not a DJI hater by any means, have the DJI HD goggles, Air Units, etc.., for FPV quadcopters. But they're waaay out of price line for what they have with the Action 2..
I just bought the Go 2, and the whole modular system because I can. They are all good fun. There are lots of features I wont be using as Im nearly 67 and running, jumping etc is no longer on my menu.... however tiny is dish of the day so as far as I and many more people of my generation are concerned the Go 2 makes sense. Now where did I put the bloody thing???
Thank you for a good comparison. Great ending 😎 I really like my Osmo Action (original) and got rid of all my GoPros. I'm also finding I'm not using my Pocket much after switching to the Action. Was thinking of getting another Action 1 but the prices just shot up recently! What is going on with that? As I mostly want to the 2nd Action for FPV and B-Roll perhaps the Insta360 GO 2 is a better option?
You can also reframe the Go 2's Pro video mode and also change aspect ratios in post production. Sorry I dunno if it was mentioned I was watching while working. =)
Your Richard Attenborough voice is as good as the review. ✊🏼 Keep it up man. 👏🏼 The sock strategy sounds both convenient and hilarious. I got the Insta360 64GB for Xmas. Your video just confirmed the right choice. Subscribed ▶️
No you need to choose that before filming. Also with horizon level on there is a heavy crop and the bitrate is reduced visibly. It is very stable though.

Physics has to ruin everything. The only thing between me and my dream of going to the store on a hover board are those pesky laws of physics.
Great job! GREAT ending!
best review out there!
8:07 what song is this
great review, i have a session4 atm , was looking at the DJI. think ill go for the session 5
I should tell you that some months after I made this video DJI largely solved the overheating problem for non-European models. It's a much better camera today than it was back then.
@@Roos-Reviews thanks for the reply, still thimk ill go for the gopro
Over all it's a nice compact action cam and I'm keeping it for now.
so informative, thanks for the vid.
Thanks!
Best video I seen all morning. Go insta360.
I used to favor the 360 over GoPro especially with the size but now it's Action 2 for me over insta360. They added a magnetic case to the Action 2 for less heating and longer recording time.
wow. really like yur style of video
Thanks!
Thank you so much! Very informative and nice video!
You're very welcome!
Would you believe i only just watched this! Excellent comparison. Having spent months trying to choose my next camera, often tempted by your reviews, i have decided to revisit the ones i already have, including the Go 2 and the Action 2. And really, they are all i actually need. I think...
How was the action 2 been for you. Really want one but scared of the overheating issue. Is this still an issue?
Excellent comparison.
You have made my buying decision so much more easy. Thank you so much Roo.
Great video as always. Random q: what kind of grey shirt are you wearing @ 8:55 ? Looks comfy
It's made by Nevada. I think it was only about $8 on sale.
Very informative, thanks for the advice
No problem.
What's the pros and cons comparing the two
What editing software was that you were using? It looks like Avid but it’s not.
Vegas Pro 18.
Great vid . Subbed
I just want to say that was a very well written and well thought out comment.
Amazing review. Thank you so much
Thank you too.
Great review.
Nice video, great ideas! And great music from you! Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks so much!
amazing review. you have such a chilled and relaxing voice. 👍🏼i love the insta 360 go 2. only thing i dont like is that in the app you can not export your videos with the prores 422 codec. or am i missing something ?
Thanks! Sorry but I don't use the app. I do it all on the desktop.
Bro, Is this place is London, Ontario ( Downtown ) ?
I have the Go2 and have no temptation to get the DJI Action 2. I think the Go2 is a better action camera, but for higher quality highly portable stabilised camera recommend the DJI Pocket 2
Thanks for this comparison. The Action 2 has my nod! Looks even better with the new case!
Do you mean the Smallrig case?
Could you tell us the best settings for the Insta Go 2?
Especially, what settings were you using in the low light footage? I struggle getting good pictures there
And which firmware, because there are three color settings in the camera: LOG, Standard and Vivid (which is more like what you wanted)
Thoughts?
For comparison videos my footage is almost always straight out of the camera.
Will you test out the Action 2 with the protective case?
Is it the Smallrig case you're talking about?
It's like Batman's junger brother making youtube reviews with that voice 😉👍
What was the music you used to test the audio?
Just some of my own stuff.
Cool ending😎
Coz my videos are always distorted but your video looks great And not distorted. thx.
btw, what parameter did You choose for dji? linear? wide? thanks.
Thanks a lot! Just changed my mind due to the overheating issue. Will be a problem in the tropics.
Ah yes, it could be. It's working fine now that it's winter for me but at 25C+ without enough air flow it poses a problem.
Wow content on point
Final battle was epic. I LOOOOOOVE my insta360 go 2 and go 1.
Pretty good review mate, thank for that.
I own both.
Thanks! What do you think of the Action 2?
I just bought the Go 2, and the whole modular system because I can. They are all good fun. There are lots of features I wont be using as Im nearly 67 and running, jumping etc is no longer on my menu.... however tiny is dish of the day so as far as I and many more people of my generation are concerned the Go 2 makes sense. Now where did I put the bloody thing???
Yo voy por la Insta 360 Go2. Saludos desde Bucarest Rumania!!
Yes, I'm kicking myself for not jumping on the ACTION 1 a month ago! I want it to complement my GO-2.
Slick, entertaining review! Insta360 were wise to set you up with the other guys' camera.
Haha! Thanks. Nice Xmas prezzie!
When comparing stabilization, please include what it’s like without it to show how well they stabilize.
Also, in slow motion the action 2 was far more stabilized. Does something happen to the Go2's stabilization in slow motion?
Yes, the Go2 stabilisation performance is reduced when shooting at 120fps.
The thing I love the most about the go 2, is the ability to set the Horizon Levelling after shooting... can the action 2 do that?..
No you need to choose that before filming. Also with horizon level on there is a heavy crop and the bitrate is reduced visibly. It is very stable though.
