Tesh from the mostly knitting podcast has a great formula for finding a size to fit your gauge. (she is a math teacher :). it is The size you want the garment to be (ex: 50") x the gauge you get per four inches (ex: 16 stitches) divided by the gauge the pattern calls for (ex; 18 inches) equals the size you should knit to make the garment the 50". so 50 x 16 divided by 18 = 44.4. so the size closest to 44.4 is the one you would make. it works on so much.
I understand the math of it, but sometimes get a little bit lazy with the calculations. Plus, for a kids garment I know she'll grow into I'm not as worried! I am doing some gauge math for my slipover though, hopefully it works!
I am knitting a self drafted texture sweater in a lghter green Regal yarn as I watch this. I discovered Maritime Fiber through your podcast a couple years ago, and they have become my favorite fiber source! The yarn is perfect for my taste in outer wear sweaters that hold up to living in the mountains with lots of dogs and they are just the nicest people! Wonderful customer service ans a little tea treat suprise with my orders❤. I bought a ship load of the copper regal 😊. It is such a beautiful color.... surfing podcasts for sweater inspiration to enjoy the copper color this winter! Thanks for sharing, and look forward to the unspun yarn video.
Just a small warning. I don't know if the gooseberry dress is the same, but I started knitting the gooseberry cardigan for my daughter (18 months) last month and even though I met gauge, it turned out WAY too big and and didn't have enough yarn to make it that large. I ended up frogging it and doing something else for her with that yarn. I looked on ravelry and a lot of other people said that the sizings ran really large as well. So maybe something to look out for just in case.

Really enjoyed hearing about your spinning. I started spinning last year and am in the process of knitting with my hand spun for the first time (Tresse pullover). Did you find the shipping from World of Wool expensive? I live on Vancouver Island but visited them last year while in England. The place (and staff) are amazing and now I wish I had bought more!!
it wasn't cheap, probably around $35 USD, but I bought 2 KG worth of wool, so it felt worth it to me. The price per ounce, even factoring in shipping was still less than a lot of places I can buy more locally. Also, I think the shipping was maybe $28 for 1 KG, so I think it's more worth it if you're going to place a pretty large order - it brings the overall price per ounce down. Or find a friend who also wants to order and split shipping with them!
@ I was amazed at their prices compared to here in Canada. I’m sure I will order from them and do the same as you- try different breeds to see what I like.
I just wanna let you know that there’s nothing like the feeling of wearing a handspun hand knitted sweater make that a priority❤
