Even though I was born in 2000, this song was still really influential, because it was on a mix CD my dad made in the 90s and we listened to it in the car. It reminds me of when I was really little, like almost too little to remember things. Just hazes of memories and good feelings. That’s what this song means to me
For me personally, this group was around at exactly the right time - from the beginning of high school until just after I finished college. This music... it was there for me.
Sundays: dreamy, wonderful, jammin', voice is exquisite but band: guitar, bass, drums: TIGHT AND AWESOME! Band=voice=songwriting! Great times loved those days... Sigh... Steven
I was born in '98 and i remember my dad playing this song and a lot of their other songs in the car when I was like 5 on the way to school in the morning.
The lyrics may well be inspired by some kind of real "lonely hearts" adverts in England, but the main thing to me is they are briliant in the way that English bands can be with the languge really being poetic, and really fitting the music. It's not always that easy to do--I'm American and I hear a small masterpiece of a beautiful, richly layered pop song with five star lyrics. The song is too beautiful for more than one reason. Very rare.
This goes out to my baby. I'll always love yiu and I don't mean that in some past tense type shit. Even though we aren't together I still think of yiu 40-50 times a day, lik I did the 6 years we were together. You are my favorite person, I'm not related to by blood, in the world. You're such a part of me. I use to tell her I wish we lived on an island with no one else on it, that woudk be amazing...smiling all day. Most incredible girl friend ever, def in the running for best human on the planet. "It's yiu and me in the summertime", dang, walking down the beach in Tobay, me and my baby...everyone staring. Me, I'm 6 ft, she is 5'2. I used to put shorty on my shoulders when were in Times Square so she could see everything. Shorty would make meatballs and go to church on Sundays while I watched football all day and no lip. Dang baby, wish you knew, I never deserved you---and it was killin me
mm111ssss 40-50 times a day? A lil obsessive, day dreamer, fantasize r we? And what's with the height thing? I'm 6'7" my wife is 5'4" umm ok . Get your mind right dude we all have a love we never forget about. But life go on.
I personally think the song was inspired by Lonely Hearts adverts that use to appear in the papers before the invention of internet dating and Harriet and David were wondering if people who met through these adverts ended up with the one they adored or in a nightmare relationship with someone they abhorred. To advertise in the Lonely Hearts you where charged per word “Only a pound a word and you’re talking to the town” and I suppose the idea was to come up with something original to attract someone’s attention “But how do you coin a phrase though that will set your soul apart?” “Romantic Piscean seeks angel in disguise” “Liverpudlian lady seeks sophisticated male” might have been phrases that David and Harriet came across in these adverts. The chorus appears to be a kind of Mills and Boon satirical view on romance and the line “Hello partner kiss your name bye-bye” could be a feminist objection, by Harriet, to the fact that the woman was expected to drop her surname and take their husbands when they married. Oh by the way great song from what I consider to be The Sundays best album, a musical masterpiece.
Never paid attention to the lyrics, these are bloody great. 'some people wind up with the person they abhor / in a distant hell hole room 3rd world war' oof
Do some people wind up with the one that they adore In a heart-shaped hotel room it's what a heart is for The bubble floats so madly will it stay sky-high? Hello partner Kiss your name bye-bye Sometimes... Romantic Piscean seeks angel in disguise Chinese-speaking girlfriend big brown eyes Liverpudlian lady sophisticated male Hello partner Tell me love can't fail & it's you & me in the summertime We'll be hand in hand down in the park With a squeeze & a sigh & that twinkle in your eye & all the sunshine banishes the dark Do some people wind up with the one that they abhor In a distant hell-hole room third world war But all I see is films where a colourless despair Meant angry young men with immaculate hair Sometimes... Get up a voice inside says there's no time for looking down Only a pound a word & you're talking to the town But how do you coin the phrase though that will set your soul apart? Just to touch A lonely heart & it's you & me in the summertime We'll be hand in hand down in the park With a squeeze & a sigh & that twinkle in your eye & all the sunshine banishes the dark & it's you I need in the summertime As I turn my white skin red Two peas from the same pod yes we are Or have I read too much fiction? Is this how it happens?

=Hot..defined by voice.
Do some people wind up with the one that they adore
In a heart-shaped hotel room it's what a heart is for
The bubble floats so madly will it stay sky-high?
Hello partner
Kiss your name bye-bye
Sometimes...
Romantic Piscean seeks angel in disguise
Chinese-speaking girlfriend big brown eyes
Liverpudlian lady sophisticated male
Hello partner
Tell me love can't fail
& it's you & me in the summertime
We'll be hand in hand down in the park
With a squeeze & a sigh & that twinkle in your eye
& all the sunshine banishes the dark
Do some people wind up with the one that they abhor
In a distant hell-hole room third world war
But all I see is films where a colourless despair
Meant angry young men with immaculate hair
Sometimes...
Get up a voice inside says there's no time for looking down
Only a pound a word & you're talking to the town
But how do you coin the phrase though that will set your soul apart?
Just to touch
A lonely heart
& it's you & me in the summertime
We'll be hand in hand down in the park
With a squeeze & a sigh & that twinkle in your eye
& all the sunshine banishes the dark
& it's you I need in the summertime
As I turn my white skin red
Two peas from the same pod yes we are
Or have I read too much fiction?
Is this how it happens?
