It’s really not that bad, there are some demanding days, but that’s just it… days not forever. After every tough day I learned something about myself and become a stronger/smarter person. If you’re honestly not sure what you want to do with life, take the 3-4 weeks it takes to clear your system. Study for the asvab on TH-cam, get a good score and get a good MOS, pick a short contract 2-3 years. If you don’t have college, sign up when you get to your first duty station, Army pays for it. Depending on your MOS basic and AIT will be at least 6 months done and you’ll only have a year or two left. If you like it stay in if you don’t use that degree for a job you’ll like to do as a career

30 yrs old about to hop into an 11x option 40, never too old. Seriously bro, 30 is the NEW 20. Joining at a later age brings a lot of real world wisdom to the branches that many never experience until after their service and it ruins many.
Getting ready to join the Army at 29, digging all the insight of your videos. Do you mind making a video about BCT as an older "trainee" and any tips you have for all the phases.
What kind of loser joins the Army at 29? At 40 your life is already over. Enjoy your 30's and don't waste it on military beaurocratic low level soldier bullshit.
@@TheCanciller for sure, some MOS’s / Jobs that the Army needs to fill, will offer pay incentives. For instance, if we don’t have enough Infantryman the Army give you up to around $40,000 to enlist for that job, for a certain amount of years. That is just one way of receiving them.
Tried for full active back in 08 but the recruiter wasn't thrilled about my age so he suggested the reserve. So I joined the ARNG at 32 19K, did OSUT at FT Knox. Then at age 34 did a tour in Iraq OIF 09-10. So hats off to you Victor and to all who are joining later in life. It's a challenge but it's a honor to become a soldier and being at veteran. I joined at 32 and I was injured immediately since I've never done anything athletic or any sports. I just graduated AIT yesterday. I'm headed to Hawaii and I'm getting out after my contract is up. #88M
Congratulations on finishing AIT, I know NIC at Night was a blast. I actually went to fort Leonard Wood for basic with the other 88M and MPs. I’ve got 3 buddies leaving for Hawaii from here, Schoffield and Wheeler. I would say if you have time to get your CDL while you’re there, even if you don’t want to be a driver after, it’s something really clutch to be able to have in your back pocket. Especially if you get all the endorsements(like 4 of them I think) you’ll be golden once you get out. Easily $70k+. Enjoy Hawaii! 🤙
I'm not 30, but 28 and the Air Force seems like a good career. I think people who join late should take advantage of the college options with credits because it can boost your chances of getting a higher pay grade when joining.
Good luck.... but as someone who enlisted in Army at an older age myself, you don't have to listen to me and you do you.... but I would advise that if you do want to enlist at your age.... keep the Air Force as an option instead of focusing all on the Army. Just the fact that the Air Force guarantees unmarried people will move out of the barracks by E4 (and in some cases E3) vs the Army's E6 (in some cases E5), is a huge example. If you are married and/or have kids you won't have to be in the barracks... but keep in mind that in the Army we go to the "field" (the woods) for weeks at a time where you would not be able to have any communication with your dependents. In the Air Force, yeah you can go on a TDY assignment where you'll also be away, but at least you would most likely have some cell data/internet service to communicate with your dependents. And on deployments, the Army has the longest deployments, which means you'll be gone for the longest time away from your dependents. And even the fact that in the Army, unless you are in a rare job unit, you will have to be at duty earlier for mandatory formations and PT, which means even less time with your dependents. A lot of people in the Air Force would report for duty later because the culture is different where they don't have to be standing out in the cold for a pointless formation and PT. I was just at a tradoc site where I had more than one older Army IET trainee vent to me ("complain" but they were right) how they couldn't even go to the restroom without a "battle buddy" while 18 year old Air Force kids were trusted to go to the shoppette (I might be wrong on the spelling) by themselves. So I'm not telling you what to do. Again I joined Army at a later age myself (34) but at the same time, I didn't know all this detail about the differences between the branches at the time either. Keep the Air Force as an option. Good luck. Don't be scared to ask any questions you might think of.
at 31 I finally finshed my college degree after going back to school, going on a 09s contract in January. Hardest part is leaving my wife and kids for 10 weeks
Thank you so much for this video! I just recently found your channel and I'm looking forward to binge watching your videos tomorrow! So you may have already answered this and if so I apologize, but I was interested to know how do you like your specific MOS as a fueler? Sounds like you spend a lot of time in the field. Do you enjoy that? Hope you have a good day and thanks again for the great video
Wow! I appreciate this so much! So, being a fueler is not bad at all. It’s a simple job, mostly manual labor. It’s a setup, check, maintain, and dissemble MOS. Where I am is called the NTC, so we go on rotation”to the field” every month in order to train units from around the US for missions and deployments. The points needed to get promoted for this MOS are high, so that may be the one downfall. But wow again thank you so much for this comment. Hope You have a great day!
33 here trying to get meps medical cleared? Already got flagged ! Being old they want everything after 13 and up … I called some of the places I went to as a kid and they have nothing on me becuase it was over 10 years stressing out now haha
I know! They wanted info from years I forgot existed, I was just honest with them and got the docs office to write on one of their own letterheads that they no longer have the patient information on file due to their Patient Records Responsibilities. Something along those lines, but don’t stress it. Once you get in, the Army will “update” you from head to toe.

33 years old met up with a recruiter and got paper work just need to explain my emergency medical history and criminal background before Meps disqualifies me. hope the recruiter can help me out with enlisting
They should be able to, the key is being honest without telling them “unnecessary” information. This was the problem, this is how I solved it, and I am good now. Trust me But if something is still hurting, be honest. It’s not worth injuring yourself for life.
Idk man when I enlisted in 2017 They didn’t do medical history background check, I think it’s actually pretty hard to get ever recurit medical records and would take a lot of time. There background was to check if they see any scars during meps lol and asked you what happend. I heard it’s different now they Army can look at your pills records idk if it’s true or not becouse the army is all threats to be honest when it come too stuff like that
@@andreslopez7413 thanks for the feedback I should get a answer from my recruiter since they are running my crim/med background this week before I even go to meps.. just need to pass my physical and medical now
Hey man, I really appreciate these videos. I just turned 33 and in the process of joining ( National Guard tho not active duty), I am going to take the MEPS physical next Thursday and will hopefully pass. I was just wondering why you decided to go Active Duty instead of Reserves or National Guard with you having a family and everything, and why did you decide to join?
Honestly, it was on my bucket list to join the Army. I’ve always had jobs where I worked harder than my peers but got nothing from it, in the Army, hard work gets noticed. There are a few other reasons, but if I could narrow it down to one it would be that at 34 I wanted this to be my last job, seeing as I did not have a “career” yet. And with a family, I know that if anything happens to me they will be okay and my kids schooling would be taken care of. I know if I make it the 20 years in this, I will be set. Hope all goes well at the physical. Practice your duck walk and remember to “hurry up and wait”
@@xLiLtEmPeR a gentleman just completed basic at 60 years old. He had prior service and was already a legit badass but still, he did it all over again and killed it at 60 years old. If you honestly think it's just do some pushups and your all set then you need to do more research. I’m 32 and I go to basic training January 23,2023 I have mixed emotions about it but I’m glad that I’ve made the decision to join
Any updates?
How is it so far?
I really appreciate this video. I turned 40 this past December and am going into the Army prior service from 2006 when I got out of the coast guard. 18 years later going back 💪🏽
Currently 24 with no direction in life been considering clearing out my system and joining
Go for it,man !!! I was in the navy 4yrs, 7 yrs US Army, did 4 deployments to Iraq ( I volunteered to go fight in Iraq )with the Texas Guard,I was in an infantry unit, stationed at Camp TQ.It was a marine F.O.B,we did joint ops with the Marines,my combat patch was 2nd Marine Div. Did 1 yr,5 months and 23 days of combat missions in Iraq. Did 2 deployments to Iraq back-to-back. The military is what you make it,Duelist. After tours to Iraq,I went civilian contracter to Qatar as sercurity forces for 3 yrs, then to Afganistan for 4 yrs as sercurity forces/logistics. When you set your mind to do something,no one can stop you. But,your self. Stay frosty. SEMPER-FI.
@@powerbad696 heres a. Question I've been pondering: what would happen if I needed dental work done? ( As in removing broken teeth cause I decided to not take care of them when I was a kid, paying for it now. Brush your teeth kids) should I get that taken care of before joining?
@@TheAverageGamer1 How bad is it?? Are the teeth in the back of your mouth or front??? I had my WISDOM teeth removed while in navy basic-training. If the teeth aren't hurting you or your gums,it can be taken care of in basic-training.
@@victorgibson8587 this comment thank you! I was going back and forth if I should take the paycut to enlist as a 34 yr pfc. it’s the now or never for the army. The job will always be there after the army. Thanks for suggesting the short enlistment!
Thank you and this content was low key/ chill mode and yet very realistic & educational for sure!
Just subscribed! I'm 30 and on HBL, but going back to start white phase of my 11B OSUT soon. It's been a little harder than I was anticipating but hanging in there! Thanks for these videos man.

Good stuff! You’ll do great! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Hey battles! You can do it. I just passed BCT (again) at the tender age of 36. Being prior service helped a lot.
Hell yeah! 💪
I’m in the process again as well prior service combat veteran. I’m 38 and ready to rock out and go and finish what I started. How was your Meps with medical , waivers , any issues ? Also how was basic the second time as treatment ? Keep up the fire 👍🏻👍🏻
I just turned 30 and have an appointment with an Army recruiter next week. This helped a lot, and I feel the maturity living in the real world might help through training I hope haha.

30 yrs old about to hop into an 11x option 40, never too old. Seriously bro, 30 is the NEW 20. Joining at a later age brings a lot of real world wisdom to the branches that many never experience until after their service and it ruins many.
How has your experience been? I'm not feeling a sense of fulfillment in civilian life and I was looking at 11 bravo.
Did you make it 11X?!
Getting ready to join the Army at 29, digging all the insight of your videos. Do you mind making a video about BCT as an older "trainee" and any tips you have for all the phases.
Awesome! I can totally make a video for that!

How was your experience with the army age waiver?. How long takes to you to get an asnwer?
@rodrigojulio how was your experience with the army age waiver. How long takes to you to get an answer of your letter?
Tried for full active back in 08 but the recruiter wasn't thrilled about my age so he suggested the reserve. So I joined the ARNG at 32 19K, did OSUT at FT Knox. Then at age 34 did a tour in Iraq OIF 09-10. So hats off to you Victor and to all who are joining later in life. It's a challenge but it's a honor to become a soldier and being at veteran. Remember only 1% of the population signs that dotted line. God bless USA and for anyone joining later in life.

Waiting for you at Hawaii, just got here today.

The hardest part is listening to the 18 year olds complain about everything. I know from experience. And I was only 24 when I went in.
Really a good speech. Hit the points.
Thank you! This comment means a lot to me!
I'm not 30, but 28 and the Air Force seems like a good career. I think people who join late should take advantage of the college options with credits because it can boost your chances of getting a higher pay grade when joining.
32 here and about to join. Thanks for making these

Hi. How was your experience with the army age waiver?. How long takes you to get an answer?
I'm 34 and I'm scheduling my asvab Monday, I've done all the paperwork already
I am 33 years old been studying for the ASVAB

@@victorgibson8587 That’s what I’m worried about LOL luckily I still run 3 to 4 miles every morning but I definitely ain’t as fast as I used to be. I just want to get in and do my time. They should be able to, the key is being honest without telling them “unnecessary” information. This was the problem, this is how I solved it, and I am good now. Trust me
But if something is still hurting, be honest. It’s not worth injuring yourself for life.

Why don't they raise the age limit to 60. It's not like you can't do push ups at 60. Such weird rules
@@xLiLtEmPeR a gentleman just completed basic at 60 years old. He had prior service and was already a legit badass but still, he did it all over again and killed it at 60 years old. The actual reason is because the government is spending money on you as a product in hopes they get a solid return in the process. You'd rather spend money on a young fit person that does what they are told than an old dude trying to prove he still has it. If you honestly think it's just do some pushups and your all set then you need to do more research. I'm 33 and realize I'm in for a world of hurt, I'm about to get my ass handed to me trying to keep up with the young kids who can bounce back with other young kids screaming at me what to do while judging my performance. It's all about doing what's necessary and being able to do it again the next day with no issues day in and day out, that shit gets way harder to do when you are over 27.........trust me. And im sure others over 27 who have lived hard working lives can tell you the same thing
@@Dillon41689 I've thought about that but you know few hundred years ago people were drying in their 20s and 30s and today people die in 70 and 80s so we are able to be strong for long age and we have the most 100 yr olds ever in history so I think that the 60 yr old average man will be considered the new 30 yr old.
Also did you pass meps physical
