@@ArtisanTony they do although the other unboxing is have seen the presentation of the components are drastically different. Was your build an Aero Precision?

Yea I am In enrolled in SDI right now and I start my AR-10 build November 13th 2023 and I graduate January 7, 2024
Planning on enrolling your 2 months from graduating would you recommend?
So do you actually keep the firearms after building them and how do you get graded for building them?
I am stoked, I start the course Nov 1 and choose the AR10 build as well.

@@tylerlane4587 too expensive, I tried asking ways to sign up and I just kept getting half assed answers. Truthfully I spent time on TH-cam learning on my own apart from what I learned in the military now I can fix modify my own guns and rifles more than what I did in the army as well as 3D printing lower receivers and new parts for my firearms
Now that even stokes me ! Good luck I hope I can catch up with the finished project.

So this is automatically sent to you when getting the advanced gunsmithing certificate or do you have to take the AR-10 advanced armorer's course?
Pretty kewl! I'm just starting the Advanced Gunsmithing Course at SDI, day 1 today. Pretty excited to see what I'm going to eventually be working on. I'm able to use the Post 9/11 GI Bill so my course if fully paid for.
How was it?
@@Dave501z Course was pretty good for being strictly on-line. If I were really wanting to be a gunsmith an in class hands on course would the way to go.
Did build an LR-308 (AR-10) for final project from 80% lower. Turned out great. The course however has changed and no longer use 80% lower...send you a stripped lower via FFL and don't teach how to build it. But you do get a gun out of it either way.

I live in Maryland so there isn’t a ton of offerings near me.
@@Dave501z minimal tools needed. They provide most of what you'll need. You will need a drill and vise.

Does the school teach you how to gunsmith or is it for people who already know how? I want to take the course but I want to know what I need to start doing now.
I just got into the school, start may 5th. Was wondering what you do with the rifle after it is built, does it go back to the school, the gun store you picked it up from or is it yours to keep?
You get to keep it because the course is expensive and you should get something after all besides knowledge :)

Hey ArtisanTony, how's that Advanced Gunsmithing course going?? I'm about to "pull the trigger" myself on their Associate's degree using my GI bill but I reeeeaalllly want to make sure that it's going to be beneficial for a future in the firearms industry. Please give me any helpful info!

I am 7 weeks from completing the SDI associates course, actually working on my AR10 as we speak. I've enjoyed it. It has rekindled the passion for guns that I had years ago. I've done some custom work that I would have previously never tried, mostly due to confidence due to the basic stuff I got my hands on in the lab parts of the course.

I am a few months away from doing this course. However I was going to change out the stock and maybe the handguard. I was also thinking of changing the barrel. My question is how long is the barrel?
I'm wondering if im allowed to do that here in Southern California
They have options or they use to. At the time they also has a Ruger 10/22 build project.
I'm starting the Associate degree in firearms science technology on Monday. What can I expect with my very first shipment??

Good video, Artisan Tony. You get lots of stuff from SDI. It will be interesting to watching Artisan Tony build the AR10 rifle. There's going to be some work and learning needed to complete the project. ... It will be time well invested.

I’m doing this course soon, unfortunately I’m in California so I don’t get to learn to do the jig part

Very nice looking kit, google seems to have a lot regarding wood for the ar10 , try and get a triangular fore grip if possible they look nicer to me.

Did you do the certificate or associates degree?
I audited the course so I did not earn the degree. The funny thing is I completed it with a very good grade but since I was doing it for Zeke Stout, they thought it best I just be considered n audit and not a degree if that makes since. But I worked on it hard daily :)
I was told you have to do an essay every week for every class in advanced gunsmithing course is that true?
2 per week. They are 400 whole words a piece. SO that is equivalent to about 15 minutes of typing. And you do 2 classes per term so it is 4 essays per week. 1600 words, so 30 minutes of typing maybe. It's not bad at all.

@@ArtisanTony yeah I'm in my 6th week and I've only gotten my ottis cleaning kit and my welcome pack is on the porch today. I wasn't sure when this elective was given. Thanks for all your info tony.
@@Road2Richies That is cool you are doing this. I audited a few classes so what I was doing was a bit different than the whole degree. I think that is why they sent me everything up front. What is cool is all of the stuff I was able to get for my library from downloading it from their website.
@@ArtisanTony I'm doing the certificate also. but I've set it up that if in the end it I can continue the second part for my associates. I'll have to do some looking and see when that elective starts.

I donated the kit to raise money for vets. It is on ebomey's channel somewhere. This was like 3 years ago :)
AH! I saw that video, but wanted to make sure. I am having a hard time finding folks with completed projects! I signed up, and am starting the degree next month.
I audited a few classes for them and I felt like I should not keep most of the stuff they gave me.
